The line was nearly to the door and it was not moving very fast (on Hawaiian time). I ordered the Kai Latte, and it was pleasant, but I found it a bit sweeter than I prefer and wished the coffee flavor came through more. I've had a few mac nut lattes elsewhere on the island that I enjoyed more because they had a richer coffee taste and a better balance of flavors. Overall, it's a solid coffee shop, but between the wait, the price, and the drink itself, it wasn't a standout for me. With so many great coffee spots on Oʻahu, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, though I can certainly see why it appeals to others.

Parking - This is in Waikiki so we walked from where we parked in the International Market Place since we were there for something else. You can look for street parking but there's definitely parking structures around. Location - Careful not to miss it because it looks like it's in a building complex type of thing. It's a small, local feeling spot with a small and focused menu, but with signature drinks that will wow you. A mere 3 minutes away from other tourist traps, Cafe Nene is well worth visiting. The Cocomac Latte is a significant improvement on the drink you'll find on many menus in the area. I prefer it as-is, but for those that want a slightly less sweet drink, ask for it half sweet. The star of the show, however, is the Golden Nene Latte. This incredibly creative drink is composed of ghee, maple syrup, and Hawaiian sea salt. The nuttiness of the ghee comes through without being overpowering, and unlike the Cocomac Latte, the Golden Nene is borderline savory, something truly unique for coffee lovers. This is a place that I genuinely hope will see a lot of success. The coffee is creative, high quality, and the folks running it are incredibly friendly.
