Used this place for our wedding cake, after trying out a few other of the popular wedding cake places in the greater boston area. We opted for this place because their cakes were so soft and moist - and if you got the buttercream frosting (i.e., not rolled chocolate), the price was very reasonable. The strawberry grand marnier was my fav, we also loved the raspberry chombard and mango...I was a big fan of their tiramisu as well, though my hubby didnt care for it. However, the cake during our actual wedding day didnt seem nearly as moist and soft as during the cake tasting, which was a bit disappointing. Overall though, I would definitely drop back in again and sample some of their other pastries for sale! read more

My husband and I went in to do a cake tasting and it was great! We had Katrina helping us and she listened to everything we had to say, remembered both the flavors (for both tiers) and helped us customize the cake just the way we wanted it to be! She even brought out an assortment of ribbons to put on the cake and then sort of created a rough sketch of what our cake would look like. Their cakes definitely look a lot more high-end and fancy than it costs which is the main reason why I come here. However, I'm not a huge fan of the taste of their cakes or desserts. I've gotten the chocolate oreo birthday cake with the strawberries on top and I believe a tiramisu one with chocolate covered strawberries on top as well. As part of our wedding package, my fiance and I are allowed to select a wedding cake from one of two vendors. Met with the first place last weekend, and loved it, but wanted to make sure that there wasn't something that we loved more. Plus, who doesn't want to eat free cake? We show up at 2:30 for what we thought was our appointment time. They took our name and crossed it off on their appointment sheet and told to sit at an empty table. Within a few minutes a woman arrived and asked what time our appointment was scheduled. We said 2:30. End of conversation; she walked away. About 5 minutes later, a second woman came to the table (we're assuming someone in a management position) and asked us again what time our appointment was scheduled. We explain 2:30... again. To which this woman responded (in an accusatory tone worthy of a Law & Order interrogation): "Are you sure? We don't schedule appointments for 2:30." We explain that we thought so, but now we weren't so sure. She scurries away, never to return. There's a solid chance that we got the time wrong. (We made the appointment two weeks ago and as everyone knows, wedding planning can be hectic with lots of dates and appointment times.) However, we were sitting at a table (probably that had been reserved for us at 2pm) and we were interested in learning about their cake packages. It was clearly busy, but no one handed us a book to look through for some ideas or something. KM chose the other route which was to ignore us like the kid in high school that played Dungeons and Dragons. For the next five minutes or so my fiance and I are looking over the cake choices on a menu that she had picked up at the front door of the bakery to see which types we'd like to try. We wanted to sample KM's hazelnut to compare with the previous vendor's hazelnut, but KM said "nein" to that plan. A woman came to the table with a tray of about seven cake slices and proceeds to throw them on the table while quickly telling us each of their names. Once the tray was unloaded, she walked away. She popped back over a few minutes later with some brief form to fill out. The woman returned later, picked up the form, and, by way of explanation said, "You can get a four-tier, carrot cake on the top and bottom only and no fresh fruit on top if you're freezing it." As if that explained everything about their cake options. Given the displays in the tasting room, I suppose we had carte blance to do anything else. Who the hell knows. We finished sampling some cakes, which weren't too bad but had some bizarre flavors that should not be considered in a wedding cake. No one else checked on us for another ten minutes, so we walked out. To summarize, the cakes were average, but I've had better customer service at the RMV. Never need to purchase anything from Konditer Meister again. Whole Foods makes better baked goods than they do. And they do it with a smile. read more

The employees are rude and I have no problem being put on hold but to forget I was there after waiting much too long is unacceptable. I will go someplace else! Be careful with what cake toppers you bring here. My son and daughter in law had a cake topper sculptured of the 2 of them. When it arrived at the reception the arm had been broken and glued. When Konditer Meister was called they repeated denied that it had been broken. After pictures and many phone calls later they finally said that it had been broken. A refund of only $ 75 was given for a handmade irreplaceable cake topper that is a disgrace is that what their heirlooms are worth to them !!! read more

Terrible absolutely terrible! Used then because they were part of my wedding package. Not worth the hassle...I would have rather baked my own wedding cake the day of my wedding than serve what tastless mess they delivered. The tasting was absolutely delicious the cake and cupcakes delivered had no taste, were melting (I got married in October), and an absolute waste of calories. Called the day before to verify my order and they delivered 2 less flavors the day of my wedding! Called to complain and still no resolution or even a call back to say things were being worked on! Not worth your time... Spend your hard earned money somewhere else!! read more

3.5 stars for the slightly above average cakes and desserts. 1 star for their sloppy food handling. If you're kid has a nut allergy, stay away even if the product does not contain nuts. We've had problems twice now at birthday parties that served their cakes. If your kid has a nut allergy and you see a Konditor Meister box, don't let them have it. Fool me once shame on you. I went here today for a wedding cake tasting. They gave us 8 pieces of cake to try, none of which were good. The cakes were all dry and the frosting was bland, flavorless. Some people LOVE these cakes. I prefer White's Bakery in Hingham or even Brian's Bakery in Braintree any day. I have tasted a ton of these cakes growing up in Braintree, at weddings, etc. The cake always seems too dry and the frosting is WAY sugary for me. The chocolate covered strawberries on top are my favorite part though! I haven't tried too many of their other treats. Try White's and you will not be dissapointed. I wanted to cancel my order two weeks ahead of time and they did not. I gave them a very valid reason and they wouldn't take it. The manager herself was very blunt and didn't had decency when she spoke. Staff is not knowledgeable. They tell you some thing and it turns out to be something else in the fine print. CHEATERS. My bridal and baby shower cakes were from here, and they were beautifully decorated, but the cake itself wasn't as moist and rich as I expected. Maybe that's their style, or maybe it was the flavor I got (one was a pecan pie flavor . . . I don't see it on their menu right now). But the prices they charge warrant better cake! My main annoyance with them is that I've inquired a few times about their ability to make a peanut free cake, and they were really defensive about it, basically saying "we'll try to avoid making a cake near peanut butter but you can't sue us if you die". Of course I'm paraphrasing, but she actually said "it's up to you." I already feel sheepish about bringing up the peanut allergy thing (even though it's fatal), b/c I hate to be perceived as high maintenance, but the people who answer the phones have apparently not been trained to be sensitive to people with food allergies. I understand that the bakery can't be peanut free, that's not what I need, I just need to hear that the chef is going to do his best not to mix the batter in a bowl that has peanut butter in it, for example. Just some nice, friendly reassurances would be good. Better customer service training would be nice when you're spending $60+ on a cake. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pastries here. Every time I come in I get a box just for myself filled with different things. There is not one thing I don't love! As far as cakes go, for any birthday or events I only come here. There has to be a flavor here that'll suit even the pickiest person. I added a photo to the photo section here for my birthday cake last year created with my 2 best friends and it came out amazing: it was sexy and girly just like how we imagined!!! We brought in the feathers ourselves and they placed it for us. The only reason why I took off 1 star is because I find some of the staff are not very friendly: like the ones at the front desk and the ones who sit down with you to talk about your special order. read more

Grew up down the road- always loved their cakes. Wedding cake would be Konditor Meister, I thought. No brainer. Crowded as usual when we arrived for the tasting. They're in demand! I was excited. I came prepared... Had thoughts, questions, ideas. Ready to make productive, not passive decisions. Well I learned that every cake they turn out is shaped exactly the same. There are no options whatsoever. When asked why the tiers couldn't be narrower and taller- the answer was I don't know at one point, then switched to "the cake would collapse". What about 2 smaller cakes? No- I don't know why. Could the layer of filling be thinner? No- I don't know why. My feeling was that I was at a cake factory, where they just turn out insane quantity and need as little variance as possible. That's not what they were over the years when they started out in a garage. The cake isn't personalized and the tasting experience wasn't really either. I thought Montillio's would be more of a factory experience- multiple locations, etc. but it was way better. We are getting narrower tiers- they didn't understand why we were told it isn't possible. Also getting a crochembouche which Konditor said they couldn't do- again, without explanation. Not to mention the Montilio's Italian Olive Oil cake is AMAZING. So amazing. My husband bought a chocolate mouse cake with strawberry's for me for my birthday. I will say the cake was beautiful and the strawberry's were good, but that was all. The cake was horrible that no one wants to eat. The cake was extremely dry, there was no mouse, it was like a thick chocolate paste and the cake and frosting had no flavor. It was blah no sweetness at all. I was upset of the fact that my husband spent a lot of money for something special for me and we have had to throw the cake out. If I was to give a review of beauty only, then it would have been 5 stars, but flavor is more important than anything. read more

Like the other reviewers here, my wedding cake tasting experience was chaos. We really didn't know what to expect when we arrived for our tasting (especially since we had already had a private one-on-one tasting with Icing on the Cake). We walk right into the middle of a room filled with small tables with couples (and sometimes their friends/families) sitting at them. It was loud and there were people rushing around. Not exactly knowing where I was going and who to talk to, I went to the first person and said "Hi, we have an appointment for cake tasting today." And, she looked up from what she was doing, sighed and told me to go to the other side of the large room to check in. No biggie. So we head to the other room and I announce our arrival to a woman with a clipboard. She acted like she had no idea we had an appointment and was not sure how she could accommodate us. I just wanted patiently for her to figure it out. She finally sat us down at a table and told us to look through some books. She then gave us the tray fill with random cake pieces-- some were disgusting, and some were good. When she came back to discuss their options, it felt uncomfortable to ask questions and get my ideas across to her. We started to wonder, is this woman going to be able to get our wants/needs to the baker correctly? Are we ever even going to see this woman again? Probably not. It felt like it was a machine of manufactured cakes. I'm sure the cakes are good and some of them were really pretty-- but we weren't looking for a run-of-the-mill cake. The prices were good, too, but we were willing to pay a little more for personalized service (see Icing on the Cake in Newton). The best part of the visit? They gave us a little box of amazing, fresh pastries as a take home gift. So delicious. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough to persuade us to hire them. read more

The trendy bakeries of Cambridge/Boston/Somerville (I'm looking at you, Kickass Cupcakes and Sweet!) could learn a thing or two from Konditor Meister. I ordered a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. It was huge, and I was thinking it would be at least $3. It was $1.75. The cake was perfect, and I even liked the frosting which usually isn't my favorite part. My husband got (and thoroughly enjoyed) an apple strudel. I have always ordered here for cakes of special event for personal and work. But today they have ruined my Daughter's Birthday. Before ordering the cake online we called the store to see if they can do it for Saturday pick up since it was already Tuesday; they said yes and it was still a lot of time so we place the order and got the email conformation that the order was received. My daughter and her grandmother went to the store on Saturday to pick up the cake while we set up for the party. They got there and was told that there was no Cake, it was not made and the explanation the manager told them was "the Kitchen did not get the order" WTH!. They offered to give us a cake but take time and was a down grade from what we ordered. This made my daughter late to her own party for trying to wait for the cake (She really wanted a her themed cake) Her grandmother decided to just bring her to the party and come back to the store to pick up cake which made her miss party. I've been a customer since about 5 years ago..and still love this place! Personally not the fan of sugary cakes and they make a semi-sweet cakes..which I always asked for! I always get a strawberry grand mernier for any occasions and even my own birthday!!!! Always good...and reasonable price. Actually quiet cheaper than other bakeries in Boston compared to a quality. My wedding cake turned out absolutely beautiful!!!!! The cake tasting was one of the most fun parts of planning. We tried about 20 different kinds of cake and the staff is super nice. We completely customized our cake and they captured everything we wanted to a T. Usually you sacrifice taste when designing such a detailed cake, but not with these guys. We made an appointment for our wedding acke tasting on a Saturday morning. Prior to our arrival, we were asked to look at cake designs that would be of interest to us for our consultation. Sounded very professional and attentive. DON't BE FOOLED! As you walk into the store, and hope for someone to greet you, you are standing amidst outdated and awful looking, dusty cake replicas. Once seated, you are placed at a small table with barely enough room for the "picture book." If you are lucky enough to catch the "reps" name as she immaturely introduces yourself, good luck trying to get her attention to answer your questions. She presented 8 slices of cake in about 10 seconds. Good luck trying to remember which was which. No worries though, as you skim through them, you very quickly realize the cakes are dry and the frosting tastes like a stick of butter, not frosting. Don't be fooled when you are told the cake is made the day of your wedding, while yes it may make the cake sound "fresh,"any professional wedding cake baker will let you know that is a recipe for disaster When the "consultant" finally decides to engage with you, as opposed to mingling with her co-workers, she photo-copies the images that you bring in. ZERO consulting with regards to any design ideas you may have . (A photo-copy ??and says your cake will look like this. WHAT?!?! I am sorry... come again?) My fiance and I could not get out of here fast enough. It was truly a waste of a Saturday morning. The place is disgusting; the staff is not attentive and could really give two sh*ts less about you, your wedding or any of your thoughts. So before the big name Konditor Meister gets you to sign on the dot, think about how much you are paying for the cake itself. We have used Konditor Meister twice in the past two months. The first time my then fiancé bought a custom made birthday cake for me (an F.C. Barcelona emblem) and it looked amazing and tasted even better than what it looked. The second time we used them for our wedding cake. The tasting was very professional and all the flavor were delicious. We picked a specific cake and they arranged with the venue and even called us a week before to confirm everything. The day of the wedding the cake was there on time with the exact specifications we had asked for. Everyone commented on how fresh and delicious the cake was. i've only gotten the small pastries here for $1.25. they've got mini pecan pies, mini cheese cakes, fruit tarts, chocolate dipped strawberries, and well u get the idea. they're pretty good after a long frustrating day. it's a great place to stop by if you're in the area and need something sweet to brighten your day. probably not worth the drive from boston tho. read more
