I have been trapped on the third floor of my apartment building for two months. Kone could not get the parts needed to repair the elevator for over a month, then when they came with the parts, they realized they needed to order another part. I am a wheelchair user who cannot walk and cannot take the stairs, so I am at Kone's mercy. I do not know why my landlord works with them, but I cannot imagine it is worth the money they pay when I have been trapped for so long. Even before this incident, the elevator was breaking down at least once every few months. This is unsafe and their failure to treat this as the emergency it is has endangered me. I cannot recommend working with this company if you have an alternative. Kone, if you are reading this, help me. Your actions determine whether I can go outside. read more

We used to use Otis for our elevator services in Berkeley. They were not checking in or out and we couldn't verify if they even showed up. Bad service! So we went out to bid and after reviewing other vendors we decided to go with KONE. Best decision we've made so far. 7 months and counting and our elevators are running well, very few callbacks, and our local service department team is responsive. Our tech is great and his boss is really direct about what we need to do to keep this thing running. Highly recommend you make the switch to KONE! read more

They're slow to respond to elevator problems in the best of times. They do "no shows" all the time even after they have agreed to an appointment. They do not always perform scheduled maintenance in a timely manner, and our monthly maintenance contract is very expensive. We are exploring ending our contract with them as we believe they have breached that contract. They are more of a hindrance than a help. I would give them negative stars if I could. read more

Located in San Ramon, we hired KONE to take over the elevator maintenance in our apartment complex, very pleased with the outcome. We had a local company for a while but they kept billing us for work saying the equipment was too new and they didn't have the right tools. KONE came in, plugged in their laptop, the elevator was running again! Great service and kind staff! -1 star, wished they would have been more flexible with my schedule. read more

I'm so glad we switched to KONE. This company is pricey, but they deliver the best techs and great customer service. We're coming out ahead when all is said and done. (BTW, we have a small building with 2 elevators). Mostly dealing with Gabe at the San Leandro office. He is professional, courteous, and informative. If you'd ask me to do a review in 2014 I'd agree with those people way below here, it was pulling teeth to get them on site or a straight answer. But these days I feel like the people that are reviewing in 2017/2018. (Minus the Florida guy) I don't know what happened but over the years they've upped their staff and customer service ability. Really it's night and day. Whatever it is, KONE, please keep it up because it's keeping my elevators running in tip top condition. I've called Jose Nunez to help out my other buildings in Oakland that ThyssenKrupp maintained. I think KONE is recruiting all their technicians. I'm not sure what all these negative reviews are about??? Our account team is always really responsive and our techs (Joel and Cliff) are probably the best I've seen in the office buildings I've worked at in Oakland. They gave me this assets management plan thing with some cool 5 year budget projections on typical repairs for my elevator. I guess they issue this to owners every few years but I'm pretty sure they can make you one for your own elevators anytime, you just gotta ask. I would definitely recommend them to other property managers!!! read more

Got stuck for nearly 3 hours in the elevator at Bell Media Tower in Montreal, Canada. The Koné technician took so long to show up that the fire department had to be dispatched. 5 fire trucks, a dozen firemen and an ambulance were mobilized that day just because Koné wouldn't show up. And when their incompetent technician finally decided to show up, he took more than an hour to figure out the problem. The city taxpayers will foot the bill because of Koné's inability to perform its services. read more

Terrible Service- Was moving and had my stuff locked in one of their faulty elevators on MOVING day with all my stuff trapped inside- they come in the middle of the night - then they didn't even call to tell me they opened the elevator- So I don't know how long all of my stuff was just sitting there in an open elevator. Terrible service and Faulty elevators- All of the tenants say that the elevators are always going down so nobody was surprised. I would definitely go with a different elevator company- They have terrible elevators and even worse customer service. read more

Company bid on replacing our three elevators and has shown they had no experience with our existing equipment, ordered wrong parts, etc. They are constantly working on the one elevator they replaced last year, too many malfunctions to count. Disgusting to know we will have three of these poor-functioning elevators for the future. The company business plan seems to be to extend the project time to inflate the cost of the contract, rather than get the work done in a timely and quality manner. Worst customer service ever. To schedule a service, had to call 9 times in 24 hours. Wow, appalled at the wait, holding on the phone line is ridiculous, for up to 30 minutes with no clear resolution on scheduling. If it wasn't for business, I'd call another company. After going through the three ring circus, I can't get the scheduled appointment requested. EPIC FAIL!!!!!! Wish I could give a negative star rating. Look elsewhere if you can. read more

When KONE came out to an elevator service call, the tech, Greg, wanted to speak with me. He checked in, introduced his assistant, and then went on to tell me that he doesn't usually service my building, but that he will be as thorough as possible and let me know the results of his visit. Approximately 30 minutes later, he did just that. You may think this is a typical service call, but it's important to realize that the success of your company is THE PEOPLE. And Greg was genuine and efficient! that's as good as it gets! read more

This company and their reps are the most unprofessional group I have worked with in 30 years in business. Emails go unanswered and phone call are not returned for over a week. When they finally get back to you, their solution are repairs (in my case not needed) that cost a small fortune. Stay away from these people, they will bring your business down as I'm finding out. read more

Similar to all the reviews below, I've had some of the same experiences with Kone with respect to service to our HOA (elevator not working/not getting fixed on time/etc...). When the elevator in our building was out of service for a week, I had to scour for possible resources to contact. Luckily, through an internet search, I came in contact with Justin Shapiro from Kone in the East Bay and called his number (510-333-4207/Justin.Shapiro@kone.com), thinking no one would answer, but hoped for the best. Lo and behold, Justin is a real person, working for Kone, who actually cares about the customers who use his elevators. Justin diligently worked with me over the next couple of days (the elevator has broken several times), included the right people, and genuinely was concerned with solving our elevator problems. If you have Kone elevator problems, my humble suggestion would be to call Justin at the number above, and work with him to get it fixed (save the bad reviews for those companies with employees who don't care). All that said, yes, I'm not an avid Yelper, and this will probably be my only review ever, but Kone (though not faultless) should not be completely thrown under the bus when they have great individuals working to make it a better company like Justin Shapiro below. read more

The elevator in our building is broken down way too often,,, and when it is broken down there is very slow response time. A very loosely run company without much integrity. When the elevator is non operational in a building that houses disabled people who are stranded, then that SHOULD be, but is not an emergency to this company. read more

An amazingly useless company with an amazing business model. Sign up customers to useless service contracts, that are almost impossible to get out of. They have two types of service contracts. The first type is a lube and grease contract where they're supposed to come out periodically to lubricate the moving parts of your elevator. You won't be told when this will happen. You may not see it ever happen. You just have to take their word for it that they came out when they said they did. And if someone comes to your property, there's no telling if they actually do anything at all but stare really hard at your elevator. There's no way to tell, and their techs aren't talking. Thankfully, I have security cameras that showed me no one showed up when they said they did for almost a year. If you have a "Full Maintenance Contract" like I have at another property, you will learn that the contract is full of something other than service. It will have so many loopholes and exclusions that the contract should really be called a "Lucky If You Get Maintenance Contract ". To get out of my service contract, I have to notify Kone in writing between 90 and 120 days BEFORE the expiration of the contract, or the contract automatically RENEWS for another full term ! Isn't that precious ! "Hi Kone, stop working on my elevator in 3-1/2 months." So mark your calendars now or you will be married to Kone for however longer than you were already cursed. Simply stay away from this company, and whatever you do, don't let them install their proprietary equipment in your elevator room, or your wallet will be married to Kone for life. Possibly one of the worst companies I've ever had to deal with, I work for a high level convention center with many elevators and escalators. I'm stuck in a contract with this horrible company and can not wait to switch. My latest problem was a service call on a Sunday, that the tech was on site a total of 42 minutes and I was sent an invoice for $1,600 dollar saying, the rate was $800 an hour on Sundays. $800 an hour on top of the 50k paid a year in service contract fees, for problems they don't fix, they've just band-aided over and I've had a 20 year contract with this company. I would highly recommend exploring your options before choosing this company. I could literally go on and on, if I had the time. read more

Poor service. After using for some time, got fed up and found better wheelchair lift service. Final straw was bill for $470/hr. for 3 hours--$1400+! Yes, the call was on a weekend, but $470/hr.????? Maybe--but they didn't fix it, and we STILL had to call someone else, who fixed it quickly and cheaply. Service people appeared unfamiliar with equipment--if our stuff was out of their area of expertise, they should have said so instead of continuing to make poor repairs and charging through the nose for it. read more

Run fast and far from this company. Worst service I've ever experienced. Unresponsive to communications; unable to troubleshoot and repair simple problems. Created problems with my equipment and billed $750/hr to attempt repair. I finally had to ban them from my site, and then the state elevator inspectors unexpectedly showed up less than 24hrs later to shut down my equipment because the inspections KONE was paid to do hadn't been done.
