We had a great experience at Kontacosta Winery. From start to finish, everything just hit right. We started with a red wine flight, which was a perfect way to get a feel for what they offer. Every pour was solid, and it made it easy to narrow down what we liked. Our server/bartender JR was fantastic--super knowledgeable, easygoing, and made great recommendations without being pushy. We ended up going with a bottle of Merlot they suggested, and it was excellent. Smooth, well-balanced, and exactly what we were hoping for after the tasting. Honestly, just a fantastic wine. And I we also got a whiskey that sampled great. Exited to have it! Between the quality of the wine and the service, it made for a really enjoyable experience. Kontokosta is by far one of the prettiest places I have ever had the privilege of drinking a glass of wine. In one direction you have a cliff where you get to look down at the beach and water... then if you turn around you get to look back at the main house of the vineyard. It is so vast in the distance and something about the reclaimed wood with red accents just got me going. SO BEAUTIFUL. We were able to walk right up to the counter and try the different options of wine they offered. The staff was super helpful in helping us decide what we wanted. This was the most beautiful vineyard I've ever been to on Long Island. The views are stunning. I love that you can walk out to the bluff for an even better view. They have a bunch of tables inside and on the deck. I love that they position a bunch of chairs to look out to the view and relax. They put picnic tables away from the building also. Tons of space and open areas to sit. They had a small menu for snacks. Very pricey but worth it for convenient since I'm pretty sure you couldn't bring your own. The wine was pretty good. I tried a flight but only was able to try some because the rest spilled. It was a very relaxing day. We had our 1 year old with us. They do not allow toys/balls for obviously reasons but there was so much space to move around it was great. Bathrooms were clean, a lot of parking. I would recommend a day here for sure. read more

Kontokosta Winery is a beautiful and spacious winery within easy walking distance from the town center. The views of the water are absolutely breathtaking. The wine was excellent and the cheese plate paired perfectly. The staff was friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The only downside was that we couldn't buy a bottle to enjoy onsite and had to purchase by the glass, which ended up costing more than if we had been able to share a bottle. Kontokosta was my first time visiting a winery, ever. I'm going to front-load this review with the positives: it's a gorgeous location, and the spaces for enjoying the wine and meze are lovely, a beautifully decorated interior and a great outdoor space with lots of high tables to sit or stand at. The service is stellar, very attentive and the servers provide information and background on each of the wines you may be trying. The live music on the evening I went wasn't particularly my style, but it seemed appropriate for the crowd and vibe. Now the not-so-positives - having experienced this winery, I realized that the crowd and vibe are just not for me. There's a lot of criticism about the prices on the menu, but this overlooks the fact that you are paying not just for the wine itself, but for the whole experience. You're not just having wine at a random restaurant, you're being served the experience of the wine by the experts involved in actually making it, in a unique setting that is structured to deliver an interesting contrast of both rustic and luxurious. So yes, the experience is not a cheap one, but it's not supposed to be. (For reference, I shared the mix-and-match tasting with my partner.) So for people who are into that kind of sophisticated yet casual and fun (but not too fun) vibe, Kontokosta is an excellent choice. But for me, as I'm decidedly less posh in my tastes, so I've satisfied my curiosity about wineries and that's about it. read more

This property is gorgeous. It literally is right on the water and you can walk to the edge of the property to see the beach. The wines are definitely more elevated compared to others on the island. The anemometer varieties are fantastic but my favorite was probably the cab franc with its tobacco taste. So good. Food is a la carte which is kind of odd. You pay for cheese, great, but if you want crackers with it, you have to buy that too. You want a second cheese? Extra. Almonds? Extra. When they brought it out we realized why it was so expensive: it looks like they gave us the entire box of crackers and an entire block of cheese! For just myself and my husband it was definitely a lot... We left half the crackers- very wasteful! There has to be a better way... Overall, a lovely spot. The location of the winery is beautiful with a gorgeous view overlooking the Sound. The building is both modern yet rustic with plenty of seating . However, there is a $5 entrance fee and oh boy you get to keep a souvenir wine glass ! No other winery that I've gone to charges an entry fee and their wines are so much better. The wine is average so you are basically paying to enjoy the view ! This gorgeous winery in the North Fork sits on the edge of Long Island Sound offering breathtaking views of the water in a picturesque setting. The rustic architecture and modern window filled open floor plan design of the air conditioned building allows for a comfortable wining experience without sacrificing views of the lovely vineyard. Fortunately, there was no entrance fee, and it wasn't overly crowded. As we approached the bar area, the bartender warmly greeted us. It was clear he thoroughly knew his wine selection, and after asking about our preferences, he was able to make fitting suggestions. My husband and I ordered a charcuterie to accompany our wine tasting. We opted for a goat cheese trio (cranberry, herbed, and honey), gluten free sea salt crackers, and prosciutto which came at the steep price of $45. The cranberry goat cheese had too much cranberry to easily spread on the cracker. We chose to create our own selection of 4 wines to taste which cost $32 per person for a one ounce pour of each selection. The wine was acceptable to our palates. Afterwards we bought a glass of their anemometer red (a smooth red wine with hints of boysenberry) which was $20 apiece. I would definitely return to this vineyard. While the wine isn't outstanding, it is very good and the location makes for a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. read more

The tasting room is huge and impressive with a gorgeous design aesthetic. It felt a bit pretentious though, as you are charged a $5 entry fee per person, just for walking in. Super friendly folks here and some really good wines. We got a couple of flights and then they gave us tastings of their whiskey and 2 other whites. We pretty much had everything they offer. Their whiskey was delicious but decided to skip a bottle today. Grabbed a meat and cheese plate to nibble on and it was big enough to take it to the next 3 stops as well. Assuming marriage is even on my timeline in the near future (and this place is still in business by then), everything about this place screams the perfect wedding venue. I was in complete awe when we were entering the vineyards from the grand entrance. It felt like we were entering someone's gardens to their chateau. And then you see this big, beautiful rustic-looking barn that looks very cleaned up and you already know the interiors are going to be sleek and beautiful. The indoor space was GORGEOUS. The lower level is the tasting area, while the upper level is offices and conference glass rooms. Hell, if I lived out here, I would not mind working out of an office or co-working space that looked like this. I don't know exactly how many acres of land this place owns on this property, but there was MORE outside--all the way out to the bay and that probably was at least a quarter of a mile walk. If you can manage to still walk after your tasting, there are picnic tables set up near the bay. This place is just absolutely stunning and the wine was great, too. They have an equally great selection of reds and whites, which was a huge plus for one of my friends who can't handle reds anymore. My only gripe with this place is that they seem very opportunistic (and obvious) about their profits than the overall customer experience. They prohibited us from bringing outside food (not that we were expecting them to clean up after us and leave trash with them) and right when you enter, they make sure that you pay for the $5 "mandatory fee," which, in all fairness, you get a nice branded wineglass in return. And to their respect, they were kind to store our food in the fridge until we were done. A tasting flight was in the $20s, which is more expensive than average on the North Fork, but I do think they produce quality wines and pride themselves on this. I'm sure that this all pays for the marketing and branding that they invest in (and the stunning, huuuuge space that they have). But they are still pretty pricey (and strangely uptight) for a place that doesn't offer the amenities that many other wineries do and I can't imagine this being a place where people stay longer than an hour or two. read more

I came here twice in 2019 and then most recently in June 2021 with the COVID-19 protocol in place. I made a reservation for 12:30pm on a Saturday, and unfortunately due to traffic, we weren't going to arrive until 12:57, so I gave Kontokosta a call and they moved our res up to 1! Really appreciated how easy they made it. Upon arriving, we received our souvenir glasses and a little menu of snacks / non alcoholic beverages. We also got a little slip of paper indicating that for our party of four, we were only able to purchase up to 3 bottles for consumption on premise. I appreciate that you have the choice of sitting inside (several tables available) or outside (I would recommend walking down to the picnic tables near the water -- there's not as many though so they may already be taken). I love the 2018 rosé, and this time we tried a bottle of the Cabernet Sauvignon, which went down so smoothly. We also ordered hummus, pita chips, flagship cheese from Beecher's, and prosciutto. The snacks were great! I especially loved the hummus and prosciutto. Afterwards, we took a nice stroll on the grounds to the water for some photos / just to enjoy the smell of the ocean. The sights here are beautiful, and I appreciate how it's only a five minute drive away from Greenport so you can go there after for a meal/dessert! read more

They also give you a complementary glass to bring home. Bottle prices were decent. Food prices were decent just mediocre stuff though. A let down for driving all this way for no tasting and food that you have to display yourself with a wooden knife. But the view was gorgeous. read more

I've wanted to come here for years and I finally made it. I have to say I was a little disappointed. I was turned off right away by the sign out front .. no kids, no walk ins, cover charge. The place is gorgeous, especially the waterfront view. However, the lady who poured us the wine was so salty and uninviting we could hardly enjoy ourselves! Her attitude was off the charts so we made sure we ordered from the other server afterwards. I honestly didn't like a single wine I tasted either. A pretty winery located off Hwy 25. When you enter you drive down a long road of grapes on either side. We were lucky and came when the grapes were plentiful. We walked into a quiet place as it was only Thursday. We tasted wine then walked down towards the cliffs where you can view the sound. You could not get down to the beach but it was beautiful nonetheless. As we went back in we purchased two bottles of wine then headed out. Enjoy the time we had there. read more

Got engaged on the property. They charge $1000 to have an additional person come to take photos of our milestone moment even though we were already onsite with a reservation. We came back for our anniversary and made a reservation in advance. We arrived in a limo because we wanted to be responsible, we also live in the area and wanted to respect local businesses. We were denied entry, even with the limo parking offsite because "they don't allow limos," and "we should have taken an Uber instead." We had only just come from lunch and we're not drunk at all. The the most stunning winery landscapes, but that's where it ends. The wine quality is mediocre and wouldn't be on the shelves of a reputable wine store. The owners seem profit-driven; they used to offer free glasses but no longer do so, forget about there package deals. It's become more of an Instagram hotspot, which seems fitting DO NOT SATSIFY THEM AND BUY THERE WINE THEY DONT DESERVE IT. My wife loves to chat. I love to absorb. Another one of my favorite wineries in the North Fork. This place is one of the more northern wineries - it's modern and a seaside open airy feel to it. You can taste or grab some wine and cheese/crackers and/or chocolate inside. Or you can grab some wine outside near the picnic benches by the water. Even if you get something inside- they give you a tray and you can walk to the benches. This place is a little more busier but you can find a place to sit /stand and relax in the open with a breeze coming off the ocean. read more
