We were visiting Greenport by boat and decided to pick a couple wineries, hire an Uber and set off for the day. This was by far my favorite stop of the day! Pulled up in our Uber to a perfectly rustic outdoor bar with the friendliest staff. We ordered tastings, grabbed a seat and relaxed with the chickens. If you like good wine in a casual, homey spot then this is the place.

Loved this place. Grab a flight or a glass and have a seat in the field with the roosters and ducks. Chill and repeat. Prices are. Very reasonable prices for some tasty wines.

This one of the most coziest wineries in North Fork. I loved the cozy comfortable decor in here. The chickens were so cute. The ducks were cute but not like the chickens. They have a place where you can go look out at the Long Island Sound but it was temporarily closed. We enjoyed our tasting. They let us bring our doughnuts that we got from No Fo Doughnut Company. Cute place.

Situated on one of the most pristine places on the whole of the North Fork, the Old Field Vineyards finds itself written into the very history of Long Island- even before the United States- back to the early 1600's. With the grapes being grown nearly down to the water, frost, I'm told, is rarely a problem. On a recent birthday trip out to the wine trail, we came on the advice of a friend and were not disappointed. The owner and her daughter were busy sharing stories and wine flights, while we warmed our bones next to the cast iron stove and took in the sights and joined in the conversation. Mid-May can be a tad on the cool side until the sun is high in the sky; but the giant trees just behind the tasting room are sure to keep things cool in the height of Summer. I sampled all of the reds and took a few home- a sure sign I liked them. I'm a huge fan of dry red table wine and particularly like the "Rooster Tail". It's simple and reminds me of growing up Italian and my years in Spain. Unpretentious and flavorful, it embodies what a red table wine should- Home, family, and friends. The owners had some stories of their own and we listened eagerly to a little of their story, their pets, a recent movie that was filmed there and also heard that they host special events, including weddings. Of course, we will certainly come back and enjoy more of what the Old Field Vinyards has to offer.

Top of the Ice House where we had a lovely lunch.

Wow. What a place. There is a lovely family feel with great wine tasting opportunities. We were there for a bachelorette weekend. Consider a lunch in the Historic Ice House. It was catered and very good. I just hope I can get more of the delicious wine close to home.

There are many other places like that on the North Fork, just follow the traffic. DO come here if you know about wine, want to LEARN about wine, want to drink well-crafted wine and enjoy a quieter, more civilized and intimate setting. Peconic Cellar Door occupies the space that formerly housed Provisions and Ingredients and shoulders up to Winemaker Studio. It's a small space but seems airy. White dominates and custom made tables allow for various configurations; You can get a few bistro-like four tops or join them for one, longer communal table. There is, of course, a bar. It's very tidy. But where this place shines is with their wines and the interaction with the winemakers. This afternoon, we had the pleasure of chatting with Robin, co-owner of Peconic Cellar Door and winemaker of Salt Bird Cellars wines. As the actual wine-maker, she was able to give us a deeper appreciation of the entire process and of the wine itself. We also shot the breeze about craft beer, Australian hops, the "agri-culture" Down Under and the hideous traffic this time of year. Try getting THAT kind of interaction at one of the gigantic vineyards! What's also great is that, since they abut Winemaker Studio, you can really get a tremendous scope of Long Island wines in this one, tiny joint. Hang out, have some great wine and talk to the winemakers, then slip next door for even more tasty goodness. Stop by. You won't be disappointed.

I drove slowly and managed to get a nice parking spot. I've never been here before, once inside the tasting room is adorable. Theres a bar as well as a quite sitting room. My wife and I arrived early and ordered two glasses of wine. There are two $34 wine tasting, if I was staying longer I would have sat back, relaxed and enjoying their various wines. Since we're going to get some corn flavored ice cream (Yes, you read that right) at the nearby farm, my wife started with the Main & Mill Marigold white and for myself I ordered a glass of 2022 Main & Mill Trinity. I'm also starving so I ordered a shrimp cocktail. The wines, incredible. There is nothing better than being on the North Fork and drinking a glass of wine that was produced on Long Island. The kids arrive. Hugs happen and they're also hungry so we ordered a cheese and charcuterie for the table. They have been here before so I was told the Honey Goat Cheese dip is a must. What impressed me the most were the breadsticks! Are they baked locally, where can I buy them?! Everything was deelish! The wait staff was excellent, everything came out promptly. The bill came, the waiter had my credit card on file. My wife is happy, the kids are happy and I'm a happy pappy. This place would be fantastic in the fall. Have I told you the east end of Long Island is so beautiful, I would love to be back here in front of their fireplace sipping on their Napa Valley blend. A few more weeks!
