I love Roanoke vineyards and their delicious wines! Everyone here is awesome, and as a member, I can go in anytime and have a nice little private wine day with friends. Their vineyard is absolute stunning and every one of their wines is amazing! We come here often since we are lucky enough to live right down the road. The last time we were there, Chef Tom Schaudel was doing an event for us, and grilling up the most amazing foods! We were served grilled Grilled smoked St. Louis ribs with blackberry scented BBQ sauce, Chicken thighs with mustard vinaigrette marinade, Lightly smoked potato salad,Fresh heirloom tomatoes with basil and a Grilled olive-oil almond cake with strawberries & fresh whipped cream. Everything was absolutely delicious! He even grilled iceberg lettuce, which I never thought to do, with fennel and the best dressing ever! We were served all of their great wines, and Tom talked about the food, the restaurant business, music and guitars, which my husband being a guitar player absolutely loved :-) We got to talk to Tom for a while after the event, and we also bought his second book, "A Second Helping," which is just as entertaining and funny as his first book. He really is such a great down to earth guy, and meeting him was the highlight of my day, along with the great food, and wine of course! Since Roanoke is a members only winery, if you do have friends who belong, I highly recommend going with them. You will love their wines, the beautiful vineyards, and the very beautiful and inviting inside, where you can relax with friends, have some wine, and just have an amazing day! I have been coming here for year's now... 11 to be exact. Obviously I have enjoyed the selection of wines here to put this shop in my top three Long Island Wineries. On top of the great wines (I'll name a few of mine later in this review, they have and have always had a remarkable team...) Everyone has always been just delightful to work with and if you're new at this, they will definitely take you through the ropes. (or grapes, if you will.) I am definitely a fan of how they turned this location to a members only space. I realize that not everyone was so pleased at this move but they definately have enough club members to fill the house both inside and out on a nice day. Roanoke was my first club to join on the North Fork (11 year's ago). If you go through my collection I'm sure you'll still find some Blend 1 & 2. This space is a warm-comfortable place to just hang out and enjoy some good wine and people. They have a back room [with fire place] for groups or even just a few people, and an outside sitting area with tables. They have plenty to choose from and my favorite may not be your favorite but make sure you try it all. They set up their member tastings specifically for you to sample a range of the wines. Some of my personal favorites: - Infinite Possibility - Chardonnay was blended with Sauvignon Blanc, making a white that adds intrigue to dinner or an evening on the beach. The crispness of the Sauvignon Blanc is softened by the Chardonnay, but there's still a lively acidity for balance. - Marco Tulio - Our member's favorite blend. - PRIME NUMBER - The benchmark for quality. Here, Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with Merlot in almost equal amounts for a dynamic wine that possesses both power and elegance. The Merlot provides a plush and soft contrast to the Cabernet Sauvignon's cherry and black fruit structure. They also have a relationship with Wollfer Estate Vineyards which allows you to buy their products with a small discount. Bottom line: If your not a member go to their Love Lane tasting room, try some some wine and join the club... You will really be happy to did! read more

I always find myself in the North Fork of Long Island, the town of Riverhead NY, simply because my mother in law loves to shop at the outlet stores in the area. As her favorite son in law, trust me I know, you don't need to ask her :) I found that Roanoke Vineyards was a mere 6 miles away from the outlet. We took the opportunity to visit the winery, minus the mother in law. A very unassuming winery when you drive up to the place off "Sound Ave" A Big lush beautiful vineyard in the background and then somebody decided to build a barn right in the middle of it, but don't be fooled by the ordinary looking barn, once you enter inside the wood panels, floors, countertops, benches and tables bring warmth and character to this place. I'll be the first to admit that I am no wine tasting specialist or connoisseur. My general rule is as long as it doesn't come in a twist cap, we should be off to a good start. The Sommelier was extremely knowledgeable as he explained the different nuances and flavor profiles of the wines they made. We opted for the "Roundtrip Flight" for $10 we each received 2 samples of red and white. The Merlots were very good, but we fell in love with the "Wolffer Estate" - The Grapes of Roth 2013 Dry Riesling and the 2012 Diosa late harvest dessert white table wine. The Riesling were not overly sweet and had a great fruity aroma, conversely the dessert wine had what the Sommelier said "Lots of residual sugar" but it was Oh so good residual sugar! The wines are not cheap, but IMHO, worth it! They also served us a small platter of cheese and bread to complement the wine. At the end we bought 4 bottles home! There is also grape seed oil and other little knick knacks for sale in the store. In the rear of the store inside and outside there are a couple of tables and chairs, so you can make it a date, just bring your own food, buy a glass or bottle of wine and enjoy the day. Just make sure to clean up after yourself and throw out the trash. This is definitely a great place to start in trying out the many fine wineries in the North Fork area. A quaint, nonpretentious little winery near the beginning of the wine trail, this place is unassuming and actually easy to miss. From the main road, it looks like no more than a small cabin. On the inside, they have one small bar, which can get crowded. Once you are able to place your order and receive your drinks and small plates, you have the option of either sitting in the indoor dining/drinking area or outside on the lawn facing the vineyard. Needless to say, we chose the latter. On a day with good weather, sipping on wines while lounging in one of their Adirondack chairs can't be beat. You can park yourself right next to the grapes and enjoy your drink(s) and the amazing views. There are tables and chairs sparsely positioned all over the lawn, so it never feels too crowded or noisy. I could have stayed there all day. Service is just okay. As I mentioned, their small bar gets overwhelmed very quickly and sometimes, it took a long time to get someone's attention. It would be nice if they could put in a second bar or designated serving area, especially on weekends when larger crowds can pretty much be guaranteed. NOTE: view pictures! are you there yet? *i'll wait* okay... now imagine i'm there with you. i'm guiding you through the vineyard, our bare feet pitter-pattering on the grass. we splash water on each other and giggle w/ glee. our friends are watching us act like 5 year olds from the shaded picnic tables. everything is so green and beautiful here. we walk into the retail store. the fragrant smells of rosemary, garlic, red peppers and olive oil enters our nasal chambers. what a delight! we do not indulge in the flight selections, but our eyes are locked onto the grapeseed oil collection. we are amazed! i try the garlic infused one. heaven. the lemon w/ basic is divine. the staff is so attentive and helpful- it makes us smile. i can't decide on which oil to purchase- so the clerk tells me to sample everything all over again. damnit... i pick- the garlic! best choice of my life! i truly can't wait until i come back here. i finished my grapeseed oil. =( read more

We came here after Baiting Hollow and it was such a breath of fresh air. The sommelier knew the wines very well and guided us with each pour. She also provided us with a small plate of delicious cheese and crusty bread. Our fav here is the 2010 The Hill which is sitting on my wine rack waiting for a juicy steak. Roanoke Vineyards is another vineyard I would never think to stop at. For several years, I've visited the North Fork a handful of times each year. We were looking for some vineyards we haven't been to. Roanoke came up. It looked quiet and humble, with a gravel parking lot and a small barn-like building. When you walk in, you enter the main tasting room. Along the left hand side is a bar-like area where you can go to try 3 different flights. I opted for the Round Trip Flight, an offering of 4 types of red and white wine: 2010 The Wild!, 2009 Marco Tulio, 2008 Cabernet Franc, and the 2007 Merlot. The wines were decent though not on my top list of favorites on the North Fork. However, what really surprised me was the complimentary stone plate of 3 types of cheese and 4 pieces of thinly sliced bread. Each of the three types of cheese included 2 pieces each: Asiago, Pecorino, and a Gouda aged for 5 years. It was the perfect complement to their wine, making for a very enjoyable experience. After you're done with your wine tasting, you can also go into the library, where several tables are set up. It's not a full-fledged library, however it's small and cozy to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. The library is also used for tastings of some of their other wines with a full-time librarian to help complement your special event. read more

Hands down best winery on Long Island. My wife and I have been visiting since 2006 and I don't recall ever tasting a bad wine. It's one of only 2 wine clubs we belong to on Long Island and we're east end winery veterans lol. You won't find the bus loads of drunk twenty something's here with loud music or gimmicks. What you do get is amazing wine, that's it. If you're serious about wine, this is where you go. One of the only vineyards on Long Island producing exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon. If I was to write everything swimming around inside my head this review would be too long to read. Wow, what a great place. Spent the afternoon here drinking some excellent Chardonnay. Didn't mean to spend the afternoon, it just turned out that way and now I have to go back and buy more wine - maybe this time the wine will make it home. The main building is small- they have the usual tasting counter and some stuff for sale. Their wines are generally good - I liked a few that I tasted. The help was outstanding and when we first purchased a glass each to sip outside, they gave us a nice little platter of bread and cheese. We wound up meeting some cool people outside and that's when we began opening our bottles that were meant to go home with us. A few hours later, we had made some cool new friends and dusk was approaching so we headed out. A truly great day. read more

Our first stop was baiting hollow vineyard which was like party central, and this was our second stop which was super relaxing and exactly what we were looking for. Note: You shouldn't roll up here with a party bus wasted. It wasn't too crowded and the bartenders were well knowledgable. It was a beautiful weekend, so we took our wine outside, sat in Adirondack chairs and soaked in the sun.... Mmmmm.. if only I could go back. I wasn't crazy about the wine, but it was fairly priced tastings and they gave us some bread and cheese. ( I love me some free food. ) bartender even gave us a map of vineyards, suggested a few that he thought we would like and gave us a cork with his name on it. (Apparently they have this thing called pass the cork, the bartender will write his name and a name of a vineyard and you get a free tasting!). read more

After 40 minutes drive to the winery, based on the wonderful yelp reviews, we encountered an unfriendly bartender who completely ignored us in the first 10 mins of wait in the bar, although the place was completely empty. Then we were told that we were not able to have any of the wine because we are not members. I showed the bartender the winery's yelp page that does not mention anything about "members only," and she claimed they don't manage their yelp account.. My husband tried to be polite and inquired about the membership, and was told the membership season is closed and there is no option to buy. Seriously..? I wish this was better known for people coming to visit so we wouldn't have wasted our time trying to figure out where we went wrong. We did end up at their actual tasting room on love lane and the guy that helped us was super friendly and laid back. He was informative about the wine and we enjoyed the tasting. Their Chardonnay is interesting and we ended up buying a bottle of the red blend that was my favorite. It's worth a visit but just wish they'd figure out a way to make their location better known. The staff here are very knowledgeable and down to earth- especially for newbie winos, they won't make you feel silly or out of place. The flights offered are pretty great and wonderfully priced, $10-12 with about 4 tastings each. They have a nice room where you can grab a glass of wine and chat with your friends in comfort. If warmer outside, they have ample seating available as well. My husband tried the Marco Tulio and I had the Chardonnay, Sonnet. They were both incredibly delicious - we left with a bottle of each! Roanoke Vineyards is one of the best wineries on Long Island. They make consistently excellent wine. Their prices are among the most reasonable. The tasting room is pleasant and the staff is knowledgeable. One of my favorite things to do is buy a glass of wine, and enjoy it in the outdoor seating area. Their satellite location on Love Lane in Mattituck is also a great place to taste. Don't visit wine country without stopping at Roanoke. read more

First let me start by telling everyone that reads these reviews......the ONLY reason Roanoke Vineyards is not 5 stars on yelp is because the reviewers who gave one star with a complaint are ONLY complaining about Roanoke's Members Only policy. Do not let the 4 stars fool you. Roanoke has some of the best, if not THE best wines out here in Wine Country. Not only that, the family that owns it and the workers that work there are some of the nicest, sweetest people around. I'm happy to be a member and I'm happier to give them my money. Also...how lazy can you be to not know that Roanoke is members only? It's listed on the home page of their website and it's also mentioned on TripAdvisor and some other sites. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Stop counting on one site to give you info and don't assume every winery out here is just open for anyone to come in. There are many rules at some of the wineries out here, including "no pets", "no outside food", "no party vans" and "no large groups". Again, the wine is excellent and the people that run it are even better. If you don't know, call and find out. But please, please stop the complaining about Roanoke's policies.....us members are happy they're in place. If you're lucky enough to get in, buy The Hill. This was our second or third stop of the day. I wasnt that impressed sadly. What kind of annoyed me was we had to wait forever to get served in the tasting room. This was the first LI vineyards we tried one weekend and we had a great time. Nice patio with umbrella'd tables with a view of their gorgeous vines. You can bring your own food/cooler and have a picnic while enjoying the view, the music playing (not live) and a nice wine tasting. There's different options for $9. I opted for white and next time i'll try out the red. We had a really lovely lunch and spent some time just relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous weather. I would definitely come back. I've never had a wine (red or white) at Roanoke that I didn't like. The facility is always clean. The staff are always friendly and knowledgable. The wine is always flavorful and well enjoyed. What a vineyard is supposed to be. Rows and rows of grapes, simple yet refined charcuterie boards and friendly faces. I bought myself a bottle of their rosé and Marco tulio, and what a brilliant addition they were to my holiday dinners. I cannot wait for the weather to warm, so I can come back here and just get lost in all of Roanoke Vineyard's beauty. An ideal, really. An extra bonus - Lots of parking space! read more

No matter how you plan your North Fork vineyard hopping trip, keep in mind that Roanoke is open until 9pm on Saturdays. The only thing I know about Roanoke is that English settlers were left on Roanoke Island (Virginia) and were never heard from again (it's amazing what you remember from grammar school). This vineyard feels like that same island because it's isolated from the main thoroughfare of vineyards on Main St and you can definitely get lost there. They offer a 4 tasting menu for $9 for white or "round trip" (mix of white / red) or red for $12. After you order, they give you complimentary cheese and bread (not much). Our server was like the soup nazi - our entire group (9 people) had to be present at the bar and we each had to be finished before he poured our next glasses or NO WINE FOR YOU! read more

This winery is cyclist friendly. "Roundtrip" $9 is the way to go, maybe on the slightly pricey side. still highly recommended! Outdoor seating was sheltered from the street by nicely-kept tall hedges which was quiet and relaxing. Place was neat and clean; bathroom too. We stopped here on our 60mi+ biking wine-tasting tour and it was a good place to start with. The service was friendly and attentive. We learned that the owner is a cyclist himself as we were treated with iced cold water upon entering. They serve baguette with cheese in your tasting pairing. What a nice touch. For their red wine and rose I'd give three star. The one additional star is for their hospitality. read more
