Great Milkshake Factory location with plenty of parking and seating inside. Came to redeem my free birthday milkshake through rewards and it was delicious! I ordered the Mint Cookies & Cream and really enjoyed it. There's actual oreo cookie pieces crushed throughout that are large enough to crunch, but small enough to sip through a straw. They also put small chocolate chips mixed in, chocolate syrup drizzled on the sides, and topped with whipped cream, adding to the sweetness. It was more of a liquid/milky consistency, rather than my preferred thick milkshake, but it was still delicious. They even used dairy free milk to accommodate my allergies. read more

This is the first Milkshake factory to reopen during the pandemic so I wanted to check it out. This is probably the 4th or 5th I have visited on my journeys so I'm going to focus in on the changes going on during the pandemic. The Milkshake factory is still serving Rivendale ice cream but only the vanilla ice cream based shakes. Even those are limited in selection. So if you are craving a chocolate ice cream based shake, then you are out of luck for the time being. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a masked employee who took our order and explained to us that right now only credit cards are being accepted. They are open weekends only for now. I asked if they plan to expand reopening now that the county will be in the green phase June 5th and was told not at this time but they are working on it. This location will not offer indoor seating however, there are benches outside and around the area. I also noticed that McCandless Crossing has now set up "dining picnic tents" to encourage outdoor dining. I was also told they are exploring ways to open their other locations. I wanted to order my favorite bananas foster shake but it is currently off the menu since they are waiting for fresh bananas. Instead, I decided upon the strawberry flavored shake with hot fudge. My husband ordered the peanut butter fudge sundae. Once we were done with our orders we were permitted to go inside. It should be noted that only a few people are allowed in a time and you must practice social distancing. When we were inside we followed a one way path with their chocolate wrapped candies on either side for purchase and their loose chocolates in cases below plexiglass dividers. For now, no more free samples. No biggie to me because I've always liked their candies. A friendly saleslady asked if we wanted anything else and then we were rung up. After paying we continued along the snake path to pick up our homemade shakes at the pickup area. I saw immediately that my strawberry on top had been replaced by a piece of chocolate candy. After inquiring, I was told they had no strawberries but if I wasn't happy with their candy choice then I could choose one of the remaining ones nearby. I decided to keep what I was given and we headed out the side door. I will credit them for setting up this system of virtually contact less with the greeter using an IPAD to record the order and setting up the business in such a way as to promote safety. Also gone is the water cooler and paper cups. They still have straws and napkins for takeout. I have no idea if this method will be the new norm especially for those venues that have touchscreen ordering but I did like the setup. Remember to wear your mask! We went to our car and enjoyed some of the delicious shakes I've grown to love over the years. Another bonus is that they have not increased their prices as a result of the pandemic. They continue to offer dairy free options for vegans and sundaes to boot. Their hours are now 3-9 Friday - Sunday only. There is plenty of parking around since it sits in a corner of McCandless Crossing. read more

We come to this Milkshake Factory pretty frequently as they're in a good location with good hours. I especially love to go on days after Jake Guentzel scores for the Pens, because they have half off the Jake's Shake! This is a great deal, as I think it's around $4 for a super rich shake. I never have to wait too long for my shakes to be made, and the staff is helpful with suggestions if I'm looking to switch things up. They also have a variety of chocolate goodies, including chocolate covered Oreos and chocolate bark. read more

Gourmet milkshakes (e.g., Jake's Shake, Red Velvet, Bananas Foster, Chocolate-Dipped Strawberry, and Chocolate Raspberry Truffle) cost $7 each. Signature milkshakes (e.g., Dark Chocolate and Strawberry Banana) cost $6 each. Classic milkshakes (e.g., Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, and Mint Chip) cost $5 each. Dairy-free milkshakes in similar flavors cost $7 each. They also sell many types of chocolate candies, such as barks and pretzels, in packages and as single servings. I purchased the Bananas Foster and the Chocolate-Dipped Strawberry milkshakes. Both were a very generous size and tasted delicious. All I have to say is wow... How come nobody told me about this? I've been living in Pittsburgh for over a year now and locals will tell you about this place or that, be it Primanti Bros or the Mattress Factory... But this place... THIS PLACE! My God... I have NEVER had a more delicious milkshake in my 40 years of being alive. I got the Chocolatier and my wife got S'mores. The first thing I noticed was how creamy and smooth it was, like drinking a frozen cloud full of sweet deliciousness. Then I tried my wife's and my mind was blown with each sip. How could something like this exist?? Its taste transcends anything else I've ever experienced in this mundane reality. I didn't even think I'd like the S'mores one because I usually associate marshmallows with being kind of powdery, gummy, and not that great, but somehow this shake blended all of the flavors of a smore together perfectly. Absolutely mind blowing. I can't wait to try out the locations that are nearer to where we live in the city, we only went to this one because we were in the area, but it looks like the ones closer to us might be even better! read more

We have been to several locations for milkshakes. Now that Jake Guentzel is out for the season, it is challenging to justify coming here as my only complaint is the price of the milkshake! I do understand they are large in size, have many components, and are always topped with a handmade chocolate, but $7? We justify it because we share the milkshake each time we get it which keeps us coming back! The past several times we have been here we got the Jake Shake. We were in the area for dinner lately and decided to stop for dessert on the way home. It was my turn to decide and I went with the Peanut Butter Brownie - a peanut butter shake with brownie pieces mixed in, fudge and peanut butter sauce swirled on the side, topped with whipped cream and a peanut butter truffle. The milkshake itself was delicious, with sides and bottom licked clean. However, the truffle was not as tasty as I expected, and I have never had a piece of peanut butter candy I haven't liked! Otherwise, this was a winner. The staff has always been friendly and quick to serve us at this location. It has never been real busy when we are here, maybe because it is a new location or that we often go during a weeknight. There are more visits to be had as there are more flavors to try! read more

As a nursing mom I have not had dairy in over two years. I have gotten used to eating non dairy ice cream and while most is just ok it is not the same. Until now! I've been here on several occasions now for their milkshakes. They have a decent variety of rich indulgent flavors and the quality ingredients used in the shake shine through in the flavor. Prices are a little high for my tastes, but the milkshakes are reasonable to split between two people. They also have an assortment of other desserts that I gave yet to try. I've been here way more times than I should (both this location and the East Liberty one), and I can actually say that I've never had a bad experience. I've been cutting the carbs lately so last week when my bff suggested we go, I felt some mixed emotions. I walked in, sadly lamenting my lot in life while deciding which non-ice-cream treat I'd most enjoy (because I sure as heck couldn't handle a milkshake). When I asked if there was any small treat I could get other than a chocolate, the friendly folks behind the counter offered to make me a small ice cream cup with any topping(s) I wanted. Score!! I got a small chocolate ice cream with sprinkles and a healthy dollop of their delicious homemade whipped cream and felt like a queen. The place was rather busy but the wait wasn't too bad. The shake I ordered was rather good, a basic chocolate one. I found it as good as some fast food places. It had a slightly different flavor however, that was rather good however. The staff was helpful, but not very friendly. I wasn't sure about the interior and didn't focus on it too much, but it seemed to have a bit of messiness as I recall. Over all, I would surely go back when in the area again as a treat. I used to go to the South Side location but since I have recently moved to the North Hills, I have been going to the new McCandless store. I can tell management does a great job at training the staff because my shake always tastes exactly the same. Service was fast, the staff was super friendly and the store was spotless. i went here for the first time today with my friend. very disappointed. i got a salted caramel milkshake was was VERY overly salted. my friends even had salt chunks in it. it made me thirsty and left a salty feeling in my mouth. i could barely enjoy the caramel or whipped cream because it was so overly salted. I am disabled. I am in town for treatments and after 3 hours of treatments my husband knew I was not feeling well and offered to take me for a milkshake. We went in the store (which was empty at the time) and looked at the menu. We decided to share a milkshake since I wasn't sure I would be able to drink it. The girl at the counter told me I needed to put on a mask. I explained medically I could not wear one. She then continued to yell at me telling me it was I needed to leave that businesses have the right to refuse you. I said you are right. I will go to my car. She told my husband she would not wait on him until I left. I said to her you know you are violating the Americans With Disabilities act which is federal law. She continued to yell at me. I was shocked she would act this way to a customer and asked for the manager, Julie, who just let her continue to yell at me. The girl who refused to tell me her name still refused to wait in my husband and tried to wait on people behind him. I then asked for the owners name, which I was given. I left the store and called the owner who did not return my call. I have never been so embarrassed or humiliated in my life. The store had a line of people just listening to her yell at me. What a horrible way to treat a human being especially when I was complying and not yelling back! If I could give them a zero star I would! read more
