I've never been to Korea, neither have I ever had food in a Korean home. With this in mind, I am going to go out on a limb and say this is as close to authentic as it gets. I started with the Gyoza. The owner/chef advertised these as home-made, and it definitely shows. The dough is delicate, and the meat and vegetable inside are balanced and nicely seasoned. I think there are a few glass noodles thrown in for texture as well. The Dolsot Bibmbop was great! It came out on a sizzling, hot stone bowl and had flavorful and tender meat and a wide assortment of veggies. Everything was cooked just right, and had a spot-on amount of seasoning/salt/spice. I also loved how the rice on the hot stone came out with a lovely crunch! Finally, we eat with our eyes (though some Yelpers eat with their cameras) and visually it was colorful, and could beat out some works of contemporary art, if I may say so! Where it comes to the Banchan, I am much less thrilled. All but one of these had a hefty dose of an overpowering, fiery, and heavily acidic sauce. Thus, it made 4/5 of these variations on a theme. Service-wise: When I visited, it appeared to be a one-woman army. One person appeared to be the owner, chef, and server in one! She was friendly, kind, and there wasn't a hefty wait for the food. On the flip-side though, doing my research I find that some questions were left unasked. This includes if I wanted to gyoza steamed or fried, and what protein I wanted with the bibimbop. Value-wise, I find their prices are reasonable, especially considering the filling portions. Thus, while nothing was mind-blowing, I found the food tasty and authentic and the value reasonable. While the service was very welcoming, it would've been nice to have been asked about the options in the menu. Last, the Banchan was enough of a miss that if I return, I will ask to skip them. read more

It's one of those places that's open late so we decided to eat here. Came here around 8:30 pm and was not disappointed. Owner was the server and the chef. Everything we ordered were excellent. Spicy beef soup, bulgogi, sizzling rice bowl and the spicy stir fry squid. Side dishes were good and you can ask for more. Cute little spot where you can grab a beer and some bibimbap. Looking for a spot to eat, we're driving and someone says McDonalds. Um, my magic 8 ball says hell no! Using Yelp, we came across Korean Grill. Walking inside, the place is looking, old. From the small bar to the kitchen, this place is tiny. Even though Korean Grill is small, their meals pack a nice punch. I asked if they had any iced tea. Our waitress was so nice, she made me an iced green tea! Now all I'm focused on is a nice big bowl of Bibimbap. The two ladies in the restaurant enter the kitchen and start cooking like mad scientists. Then, our food comes to the table. The ladies are so proud of their meals, I'm sure they used these recipes were passed from generation to generation. My Bibimbap was flavorful, total home run. Now I know I'm not in Kansas anymore. The fried egg on top is throwing me. In NYC, they bring out a raw egg. A fried egg, maybe they have a Massachusetts tax on eggs. The menu photo on yelp clearly shows it at $11.95, nowhere on the menu is there an item for $20.95. Even with sales tax calculated it should not amount to that. I understand the pandemic situation impacting small businesses may result in an increase in menu prices, but $20.95 is not reasonable for an order of bibimbap for one person . They need to be transparent about the price - if you decide to go for takeout , make sure to calculate and double confirm amount charged on the phone before going or else you might be overcharged . Their overpriced and under flavored chicken wings sadly gave me an upset stomach. You can imagine the rest of the outcome :/ I walked in to the restaurant on a hot and muggy day and the first thing I see is the cook marinating and mixing (probably room-temp, at that point) chicken right in front of a dusty electric fan. We ordered grub hub. We had to call grubhub 30min after we ordered for the restaurant to accept our order. The rice cakes we ordered were mush. I felt like I was eating mashed potatoes. The bimbop was ordered with tofu and they put beef on it. What a waste of money. Completely overcharged for food that is (-1) stars. If I could give a negative I would. Had I known that the seafood noodle soup was made with ramen, I probably wouldn't have to order it, but it's no big deal. However, the service blew off my mind! First, when I took my takeout order, I told the owner/waitress that I thought the noodle and soup would be in separate containers because the noodle would get soggy in the soup. She first said she "just made it" so it won't get soggy, then started complaining about me being late, so that's my problem. I picked up the noodle from my order within 20 minutes, and didn't she say she "just made it"? How do I know that they have no business in 20 minutes for pick up is considered a loooong time? Second, when I pay with my credit card, she complained that I used a credit card and the minimum charge was $20, but she let me pay this time. Then I asked for the receipt, and she again rudely told me why I didn't tell her in advance that there would be a different procedure. I don't work there! How did I know a standard receipt needs to be requested in advance and per request? Why was I scolded up multiple times for a single pick up for no reasons? I definitely will not go back! This was my 1st time eating there. I drive by so very often and wanted to give it a try. Boy did I make a mistake. when I entered the restaurant it seem full although it's a smallest spot. It took about 30 minutes for my appetizer to come in. I ordered the chicken it was salty. I didn't even finish it. The main dish that I ordered consisted of pork rice and small garnishing itmens. Beautiful presentation ..once again extremely salty. I talk to what appears to be the owner very nice lady who seem a bit frazzle, she was also the person cooking the food. Stopped by here the night of the Noreaster. It's a small place and since it was empty, I opted to sit at the bar, which is really just a counter. The folks that were working there were very friendly. The training wheels are off; the honeymoon period is over. Ugh, I've given this place some time to get its [expletive] together, but it just can't get the job done at all. I really want this place to work, but it just can't get anything right. I came here for lunch again and ordered the dolsot bibimbap. It's hard to screw it up, right? Well, I learned my lesson. The rice was not crispy on the bottom and there wasn't much rice to begin with at all. Actually, there wasn't much of anything in general. Vegetables (carrots, etc.) were limited, there was no egg, and I think I might've found traces of meat... For $11.00, I expected a hell of a lot more. It took a while for food to arrive and it wasn't exactly crowded. The only thing that barely pulls this out of 1-star territory was the server was pleasant to me, but probably only because I knew enough about Korean food to show her I wasn't going to take crap. The panchan wasn't quite right. Whatever few dishes we got, it just didn't taste like legit panchan you'd taste at a place in NY/NJ or LA. The kimchi had a sweet flavor to it. Blech. It annoys me that this spot doesn't have yukgaejang (spicy beef and vegetable stew) for lunch and that I'd have to come to dinner. Lunch was so woeful that I have little desire to come for dinner. That is what happens to many: they try out lunch first and if they're attracted to lunch, they'll want to try dinner. The men looked like they were from Ill reputed communities and professions. The server is the cook and the manager. I ordered the yook ge jang. My wife ordered pork bulgogi and my mom Korean Kalbi. Everything was so delicious, cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Don't understand why all the negative reviews. Stopped by this little Korean restaurant (6 small tables plus side seatings) on a cold January day with hubby. The food was good, I had better but hey, let's be real, we're talking about Quincy, not Cambridge or New York City, choices on Korean food is limited. I'm very happy to have found this authentic Korean restaurant on Hancock Street. The Korean small dishes, there are 6 of them, my favorite is the fried tofu. What we ordered: - Fried beef dumpling (~$8.50) - it was ok - Bulgoki with hot stone pot (~$13/$14) - it's good, sizzling hot, perfect for cold winter days -Steak special (holiday dish) (~$17/$18) - really really good, the steak was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. There we're veggies and an egg on the steak too~~ Overall, it's pretty good~~ atmosphere was so so but the price and location reflects that. Atmosphere: small, decent restaurant with a few tables, chairs, and a small area to eat by the sushi bar. Parking? You can either find street parking in this area or park at the creepy garage behind the building... Which we end up having to do and paid for parking. Staffs: an Asian lady (hostess, server, and cook) and an Asian man (cook?). Honestly, I couldnt tell if they're Koreans or not. I just assume so. I only encounter with the lady who is genuinely friendly but doesn't seem to pay attention to my table of three. Mind you, there was only one other customer besides us who sat at the table next to us. When she was prepping food and what not, I understand she couldn't. I actually assumed she was the only one running the restaurant at that time (approximately 1PM) until I saw another man cooking in the kitchen. Anyways, my cousin asked for a box cause she was only able to eat a little less than half her food but instead, the lady walked away (this happened after I got the bill and after I paid for the food). She didn't pay attention to us anymore and just stayed in the kitchen talking to the other coworker. Food: surprisingly delicious! I asked for seafood Korean pancakes. I end up with vegetable Korean pancake. Whatever, it still taste good. I just didn't think its worth ten dollars and some change. My cousin and I both got beef bulgogi, which is served with a bowl of white rice on the side and kimchi (ran out mid way eating and she never offered more to us even though she looked at the table). My significant other got a special pork chop entrée. The food were cooked perfectly and delicious. The bill came up to be $69 and some change and then I tipped 20% as normal. I honestly don't know why the bill came up to be so high for lunch. They need to update their menus, to be honest. I didn't feel like fighting over the bill with such a small busineds for overcharging and not having the same price as listed on their menus. Speaking of food, apparently they had an award for best sushi. Sushi selections was not in the menu. *cricket* Since at that time, I assumed she was the only person running the restaurant, I didn't bother to ask to not complicate anything. If I ever come back, I will ask for pricing before ordering (maybe). I'm glad there's a Korean restaurant in Quincy so I don't have to travel all the way out to Boston but its overprice, in my opinion. A part of me understands why it has to be pricier (location, leasing the place, running a small restaurant, bills, etc) but the other part doesn't want it to be.
