Great buffet and outstanding service! I came here after sitting at the dentist for 2 hours STARVING and I was ready to eat. They had great meat entrees such as goat curry (although bone in), chicken tikka masala, chicken biriyani, etc. They also gave me free garlic naan. All for 13.50 seemed reasonable to me. Unfortunately I am in my first trimester of pregnancy and the combination of being starving and strong flavors led me to throw up in the bathroom after a few bites (I have eaten Indian food while pregnant without issues before). I let the staff know I had made a mess in the bathroom sink, and I just stuck to pudding and whatever those sweet ball shaped things are to let my stomach mellow. The staff were so sweet and continued to check on me and even brought me a chai tea and let me pack up my leftovers (I wouldn't count on them letting everyone pack up leftovers, I had just literally only taken 2 bites and i think they felt bad for me). The waitor also gave me a cute dollar bill that had been written on and a balloon for my baby. They seemed pretty busy for their lunch buffet and the woman at the table next to me asked to take a selfie with the waitor (he may be manager or owner for all I know, it was my first time). I've been searching for a good Indian food place and when I went in to pick up my order I felt like I found home. The buffet line looked amazing and I immediately wished I hadn't ordered ahead. While I waited for my meal, I was given a cup of chai and a delicious spicy mystery appetizer. I still have no idea what was called or made of but it was still good. I'm not going to lie, when I did my Google search to find the phone number, I disregarded the next article titled "Korma Sutra reopens after health department shutdown over roaches". Kinda wish I had paid attention. my rice had a stay roach in it. I went home and made more basmati to eat with my tikka masala, but I couldn't shake the wonder of whether I was eating bugs or not. Either way, the tikka masala was pretty good, I guess. Not sure if I'll go back though.... read more

$12 Indian lunch buffet, can't beat that! Tons of meat and vegetarian options alike. The thing that I was really missing was the yogurt, it was unfortunately not available in buffet. Food comes with free naan and mango lassi, and the owners are very quick to refill both of these complimentary items. We came in at noon to a full house, but thankfully got seated right away for a delicious meal. My favorite was the chicken tikka masala, my God was it creamy and soft. I can't really say enough about this little place. The staff truly go out of their way to be inviting and make your visit memorable. One table was having a birthday so a staff member tired balloons to his head and brought out a little sweet treat with candle while singing happy birthday. It was silly but made everyone laughed. On our way out the same staff member handed me a balloon and dollar bill with writing on it. It stated "welcome to Korma Sutra new born baby" with the date. I happen to be 35 weeks pregnant and thought it was such a thoughtful gesture! read more

Oh dear Lord. The lunch buffet here is OUT OF THIS WORLD. We got there right as it was opening at 11am on a Saturday because last time we tried to go for the lunch buffet bodies were smashed up against the windows waiting for a table like in Shaun of the Dead. The owner is out of his mind yelling things at you as you walk in, which is hilarious. He reprimanded my brother for being on his phone while we were eating, asking if I was a beautiful girl and how could he even do such a thing on a date? My brother glowed red. Anywayyy the buffet is fabulous. AND they brought out what I can only describe as a heavenly mango drink, I think it's called lassi? that will make your taste buds sing, all included with the buffet. also chai. We drank so much lassi that my brother couldn't walk out of the restaurant without hunching over. This place rules. read more

4.5 stars! I usually don't begin my reviews with comments on service, but I don't think my experience at Korma Sutra would've been nearly as positive without it! Dinner is a whirlwind of jovial comments from the staff and having multiple (unexpected) food items brought out to you. Here, have a vegetable pakora sample! Oh you're here for a celebration? Have a mango drink on the house! Done with your dinner? Great - have some kheer for dessert. And also pistachio ice cream. Wait wait, and some chai. And how can you say no?? I come from a family where food = love, and I felt like I was right at home at Korma Sutra. (I will make the caveat that I would not come here if what you're looking for is a quiet, slow-paced, romantic dinner. But really, if you want that, you probably shouldn't be going out for Indian food.) Now onto the food. I enjoyed my Veggie Korma, which was quite spicy at a medium. I have found that you can roughly gauge authenticity based on the levels of spiciness offered, so I found it encouraging that there was an even spicier option. The butter chicken was tasty, but I found it a little too heavy on the tomato paste, so if you prefer the creamier or more curry-based sauces I'd try something different. Every meal comes with naan - 3 huge pieces of it! I devoured one chewy, delightfully flavorful piece immediately. I almost hate having to talk about my reasoning for the .5 star because I loved Korma Sutra so much...but it's because I found the prices a tad steep. Most entrees - vegetarian and non - are in the 14.95-16.95 range. You get a solid 2 meals out of it but it's still not a steal. Nevertheless, thinking back on Korma Sutra just makes me smile. Delicious Food and Amazing Indian Hospitality by an Eccentric Owner, makes this a truly out of this world experience !!! So If you are ever in Kansas City and craving for Indian food, I suggest you make a stop at Korma Sutra in Overland Park. Went in with a few colleagues for Dinner on a weekday. We were promptly seated and drinks order taken. Immediately after fresh pappadums and chutney tray were brought to the table. The owner recognizing us as Indians started asking us in Punjabi if we would want to mix the condiments. Didn't quite understand at first, but then the waitress came by our table and offered to show us. She took the condiments (Onion, Mango Chutney, Tamarind Chutney, Grounded Chilies) and mixed it nicely for us to enjoy with pappadums. The mix just blew us away.. it was so dang tasty!! And then it started and our plates were never left empty after. They constantly kept bringing various snacks to try while we were browsing the menu, while we waited for our order, while we waited for the check :-) Owner always making jokes, going around the restaurant to ensure every patron is well fed and don't go hungry :-)) During our visit we saw a few guests come in for take-out orders. Each of them were also given a few snacks and Tea to enjoy while they waited. I have not seen such hospitality at any other restaurant. Just AWESOME!! Another unique feature that is common in India, but never seen in the US. Finger Bowl!! YES! You heard me right... Finger bowl to clean your hands of all the curry and spices. A large bowl is placed in front of you and waitress pours water on your hand while you clean them. You are then offered a napkin to wipe your hand dry. Once done, the owner asked us if we would like to have some chai. When replied affirmative, chai and gulab jamoon were promptly brought to our table. On top of it, a piece of kulfi (Ice cream) to try. One of the gentleman in our party made the mistake of asking what the dessert was, and the owner explained it nicely and to add to the gluttany brought him a sample of 2 other dessert they offer. At the end of it all, we all had to literally take a 20 minute walk in order to digest the amount of food we consumed. In all an absolutely fantastic dining experience!!! As a parting gift, you also get a balloon with the restaurant name (as shown in one of the pictures) :-)) Oh! Do not pass this place up! Check out the lunch buffet; it's totally worth every penny. The entire staff will treat you as family; especially the owner. You will walk out of the place with a smile from ear to ear. I went around 11 for a quick lunch one day. I walked out around 11:30 and there was a line out the door or people waiting to get in. What was even more incredible about it were the sweet woman that worked there passing out food samples to everyone waiting in line. The place was packed at lunch. The friendly staff had a gentlemen with the wherewithal to ask a lone diner if he would accept a table mate. The answer was yes so I had no wait and good lunch conversation. : ) Fresh naan was served... and extra given to go as they were grateful for our sharing. Mango yogurt drink was poured, and just delicious and intoxicating. I LOVE mango! The buffet selections were standard, but all tasty. Standouts for me at Indian places are the various veggie dishes. I love cabbage, rutabaga, turnip, cauliflower, potatoes because they all absorb spices and flavors. A delightful new Indian find for us. When Yelp reviewers say they provide great service here, they are right on the mark. Seemed there was a bit more of a festive atmosphere due to it being New Year's Eve, but I'm guessing the staff is just like this. In fact, I'm sure of it. Impressive attention to the diner and their needs. You're seated, small appetizers appears without being ordered. Drinks are promptly served, orders are taken. There's no messing around here. The waiter plates the rice for you. We had Chicken Curry, Butter Chicken (both medium) and Goat Pashoo (hot). Like the fact they serve the bones with the goat. They really like their cream and butter in their sauces here--quite heavy, so a little goes a long way. Although the entrees are a bit small we found them more than filling and ended up with a considerable carry-out. A mint Nan also accompanied our meal. At the end of the meal complimentary chai teas appeared without us asking, then the traditional rice in cream and then what we are thinking was a frozen fruit juice of some kind, possible pineapple, spiked with pistachio. Whatever it was, delicious. A nice touch, at the end of the meal they bring hot water, limes and towels. You squeeze the lime into your hand and then they pour hot water over your hands into a bowel and then provide a towel to dry. Haven't seem that done in an Indian Restaurant before but we liked it. It was a busy evening and with a mostly full restaurant the service suffered not a bit. These folks really have running their restaurant dialed in. We'll be back. read more

The owner is the best person I've ever met! He comes into the restaurant that I work in nearly every day, brightens everyone's day, and then heads off to his own restaurant. He regularly purchases strangers' breakfast and coffee and sometimes purchases gift cards and hands them out at random. The first time I dined at Korma Sutra in Overland Park, he told me he would bring me a variety and it was all excellent. Today, he catered for our entire restaurant without prompting or payment and half of our staff had never had Indian cuisine before but immediately loved it! Korma Sutra is delicious. Yes, the owner pressures you to eat his food as he would himself. Why would you want it differently? As a result, their lunch buffet is one of the few Indian buffets where you actually get a high level of deliciousness and variety. Unlike those that prepare the food for the lowest common denominator, Korma Sutra mixes it up with a variety of awesome. The owner is always there, bringing you little treats, and chatting you up in an extremely difficult accent. Every time I go to Kansas City, I stop into Korma Sutra. I visited Korma Sutra for dinner while on a business trip, and I am so glad that I did. I love Indian food, so I have some pretty high expectations. This gem did not disappoint. First off, eating dinner by yourself at a restaurant is rarely a socially enjoyable experience. With that said, I felt like family at KS. The owner and staff (who may also be family) are awesome. Whether dining alone or with others, you are sure to experience some great service. I was shown to a table, and given a menu efficiently. Soon after came a sample of poppadum, chutney, and a fresh Onion Bhajia. All the amazing, but the chutney was out of this world. Next, I ordered - Mulligatwany Soup, Garlic Naan, and Chana Aloo. The soup had a great depth of flavor and was quite enjoyable. The Garlic Naan was the best I have every had. The Chana Aloo was absolutely delicious. As I was finishing my meal, out came a sample of Lassi. So good! Finally, I am done. I am stuffed. I am happy. No so fast... Next came a wonderful experience of Indian table etiquette - wash your hands with lime and warm water. Nice. Then came a sample of Galub Jamun and Chai. Oh my...just amazing! Great food for sure. Had an excellent experience here, the food was amazing the owner came up to us and had a joyful interaction with us. He even got us a free dessert since it was our first time coming in. At the very end I got the full Indian experience and the server washed my hands in the traditional fashion with a water tray and poured my hands with water which is considered a luxury in their country. Located in a breathtakingly beautiful strip of land, you park and can barely bring yourself to enter the restaurant due to your magnificent surroundings. Once inside, the service is stellar, not too intrusive at all. You feel calm and relaxed the entire time, even when they charge you for all the seemingly 'free' items they bring out to you. That must be why I only came here once when I lived within a few miles of this place for nearly 3 years. Now I'm screwed because I'm back in SF with Indian food as good or better for half the price, and staff that lets you eat in peace without ripping you off with a smile on their face. Called in for take-out and was told 20 minutes. Showed up early and was offered some chai and kheer while I wait which was a nice gesture. Ended up waiting for 40 minutes, tell the owner I don't have time and ask how much longer. Still a few more minutes, so I ask if I can atleast get a discount. Tells me to take the food no charge and don't come back. Then claims he told me 25-30 minutes. Felt very insulted and just walked out. A misunderstanding that could have been settled easily. If ordering take-out expect to wait as he was apologizing to another take-out customer just before I left. I can't review the food as I didn't leave with my order. However, I can comment on the ambiance. Dated, stuffy, loud, disorganized. Not an appetizing environment. read more

In reviewing their Indian lunch buffet, their offerings are OK - saag paneer and chicken tikka masala were "off" - not in a bad way but less flavorful and different that most other indian joints. CTM was missing the tangy creaminess. Their biryani seemed to be lacking in spice, as it didn't have the kick and flavorful goodness that I'm accustomed to enjoying at most other Indian restaurants. The goat was missing the goaty/gamey flavor - which was a nice change of pace and something I enjoyed. I feel like they changed typical indian recipes to be tailored towards western tastes - to be a little more bland to put it bluntly.. but they did so successfully because this place was packed full of the business crowd of caucasians and other ethnicities - but barely any Indian clientele! I'm not complaining though! I loved their food, and one thing that they do well - better than most, in fact - was chicken Tandoori. It was super juicy and had awesome smoke color and was extremely well-flavored. I would return just for the chicken tandoori alone! Indian joints usually charge a la carte for most things. For example Mango Lassi, not being a fountain drink, usually must be made fresh and therefore charged by the glass. Not here! Korma Sutra provides all-you-can drink Mango Lassi! Granted, it's not as high quality as the freshly-made Lassi's at most other places because it tastes like it came from a powder mix and tastes sweeter and less fresh. However, it's still good enough for this cat! Another freebie all-you-can eat is the Naan bread. And we're not talking about plain naan - they feed you genererous portions of the premium naan with small chives drizzled on them! It pairs perfectly with their very decent Raita from the buffet. If you're dining with a large group, they'll give you free grilled chicken on a skillet - I recommend you avoid this because this chicken was extremely dry and bland. To top it off, they conclude your meal with chai tea - for free! That's right! they don't nickle and dime you! It was a perfect way to cap-off a filling lunch and to get rid of any oil that may have remained in your mouth from the food. Not affecting the review was the super cheerful proprietor of the joint - who had the energy and enthusiasm of a waiter on cocaine and 5-hour energy. He was super happy, greeted guests with a megaphone of a larynx, and shot from table to table like a whirlwind. While he wasn't serving, he'll dare you to try a super spicy naan bread (do avoid - it's dry and it'll make you drink lots of water - taking-up valuable stomach real estate and prevents you from enjoying all-you-can-eat buffet goodness!) I don't think the place would've been so successful without him because he knew alot of the customers personally - which means this place gets alot of return customers - something that clued me in to how this tiny and cramped restaurant is loved in the local community. read more

I love both this location and the Westport location. The food is fabulous! No matter what we have ordered it has been great! If you like it spicy just let them know! The buffet offers a great assortment of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes so everyone is happy! The best part...THEY HAVE GULAB JAMUN ON THE BUFFET!!! That alone gets 5 stars in my book! On top of that, once we got back from our first trip to the buffet, we came back to a glass of mango lassi on the table! Um, heck yes! For free! A bit later they bring us chai...again, free! Awhile later, a free sample of ice cream! Oh, and I forgot, as soon as we walked in they handed us a sample of a vegetarian appetizer! So, so, so good! The staff was all incredibly attentive (without being obtrusive) and so very friendly! The food was so tasty, we went back for seconds even though we hardly had room! This place is seriously amazing. The location is a bit hidden...I cannot believe we have just now learned of it! But so happy we did! GO! Oh, and super kid friendly...even for white kids that can't take any flavor and need crap plain and bland. The manager noticed the kids weren't eating, so he brought them out plain "chicken nuggets". :-) Oh, and they gave us extra naan to take home! Might I add they hand out GARLIC naan! Hells, yes! Excellent food! I have been fighting being a fan of curry dishes, I shall fight no more! The service was excellent, we were given little samples of various things that we did not know we liked, and now we know. The butter chicken was excellent, the chicken goa curry also amazing. Sampled Mango Lassi, you will need to order it (mango yogurt). Sampled real Chai tea and won't even think about trying it at Starbucks now! Everything exceeded our expectations! Enjoy your visit! What a treat! Love the interior colors! My first visit was for the lunch buffet--mango lassie included. I took a hint from my fellow Yelpers and decided to try the chai tea--good call! I love that when I'm waiting I get snacks in my hand to hold me over. The staff is amazingly cool. . .some are characters, but most importantly, the food is delicious. I called ahead for palak paneer. When I was asked if I wanted medium or hot for the spice requirement, all i heard on the other end of the line was, "huh? what?" So funny. Yes, I need mild. Enjoyed my paneer. It was creamy and not oily and tomato like as many others that I have tried. In fact this paneer was so creamy it was almost the texture of spinach dip. . . and it was true to spice requirement--very mild. read more

I've vistiid this restaraunt for lunch and dinner on several occasions, so obviously I like it, let's get down to why. The Food-it's just good, at dinner the portions are huge so be sure not to have a lunch date the next day. I love the Chicken Tikka Masala and also enjoy all the types of Biriyani they offer. I haave also enjoyed their naan sampler platter (for lack of a better descruption). I love the lunch buffet for taking 'new-to-Indian' people to. It is about $9 and the selection isn't too overwhelming, plus they can get you in, filled to the brim, and out in 40 minutes. The Service-At dinner the amount of attention you get from your waiter and the other wait staff is almost embarassing. They go around the restaraunt with little treats for everyone to try, nothing you ordered just something they bring around for fun I guess. Near the end of your meal they come out with a delicious Chai and other end of dinner selections. At lunch they are defintely catering to the local working crowd who needs to get in and out in 30-40 minutes to get back to work. If you are looking for a longer lunch maybe try 12:30 or 1, it seems to taper off around 1. I highly recommend this restaruant, they food is good and the servers seem to have a passion for it. read more

As everyone has noted, the food is excellent-amazing combinations of flavors! Lunch buffet is very reasonably priced for what you get. Food rating = 5 stars. Now for the BAD news...My friend and I were kicked out of here during a lunch rush. Yes, I am serious. I don't believe this has happened to me before (or since.) But, we hadn't seen each other in a while, and we were conversing at length at a table just inside the door. The man running the front came up and said, "We have people waiting!" and pointed us "OUT". I just don't get places with this type of customer service. 4.5 Stars actually. Great buffet with complimentary mango lassi. I like the food here a lot, but I don't feel like it is overly superior to other places. HOWEVER, their service is! There is a man who is always there (presumably owner/manager). He greets everybody, brings you free surprises, and mixes up delicious sauces for your dining pleasure. He's also packed up stuff to go without our requesting it even though it's a lunch buffet. This is by far the most friendly Indian/Pakistani restaurant I have ever been in America. They make you feel at home from the moment you walk in their door. Sometimes they are really busy and while you are on line, they keep talking to you and playing around, they really know how to make you fee comfortable if you are repeat customer or if this is your first time eating indian food. I particularly like the fact that they do bring you parontas and Mango Lasy, included on the buffet stile price of $9 bucks. It it a bit high for lunch, but the food is definitely worth it. The food is generally about the same as varieties as you would find in most Indian/Pakistani restaurant. Korma Sutra is like a grandma's house of Indian food. The food, even the buffet, is so delectable, and the waitstaff constantly shoves more into your overstuffed face. "Would you like more naan?" "Oh, no thanks, I'm stuffed to the gills." "Okay, another basket of naan." "Mango lassi?" "Oh, I couldn't eat or drink another thing." "Here is more mango lassi." It is so good but seriously dangerous in terms of portion control. We have ordered from the menu and tried the buffet on separate occasions, and the food is excellent (the best Indian restaurant I have been to). My kids enjoy it, and the staff is great with them as well. If you don't mind leaving with happy taste buds and an excruciatingly full stomach, go to this restaurant. read more

The moment I was seated, they asked me if I wanted mango lassi (which, I wasn't quite sure what that was, but hey I'll try it!) It was tasty, nonetheless but a little too sweet for my liking. I took my sisters here for their birthday 3/3/22. We had this planned for weeks as we all LOVE Indian cuisine. So to say it was a huge disappointment is an understatement. It took us 20 minutes to be seated(although there were several tables that would've been available if they had been cleared). Once we finally did get a table it was another 30 minutes until a waitress came to asked if we wanted water. When we did get to order the food was gross,no seasonings,and the presentation was lacking! When we voiced our concerns we were told it was because they were busy. My review is insignificant because there are many 5 star reviews. I would like to point out that if you like food here, that means you don't like Indian food. This restaurant doesn't serve indian food at all. They give you freebies but i am not much into crappy freebies. Service is good but ambience is disturbing. They use cream and cheese so generously but authentic indian food has very limited scope for both the ingredients. If you eat regularly here , you can beat the guy who got super sized by eating at Mcdonalds. Food here is as unhealthy as it's at any fast food joints. read more

This is THE JOINT! I wish I had more time just to catch a lunch buffet here, it looked so amazing! I zipped in during lunch but didn't have time to stay for the buffet so just ordered some okra, rice and naan for takeout. Before I could look at the menu, the host had handed me vegetable pakora on a stick to sample. I was HUNGRY, not quite HANGRY, but HUNGRY. Salty, crispy, fried cumin, a slight kick to it. It was delicious. Immediately after I was chewing on this sensational little bit, a hot mug of sweet chai was pushed into my palm. Then, menu. I ordered, waited. Saw the crowd hustling and bustling, the host energetic and welcoming. He clearly took pride in welcoming his guests. The buffet itself looked AMAZEBALLS. I saw at least two meat curries, a familiar cauliflower and green peas combination, and a line of other dishes I couldn't stare at too intently lest I be tempted to forego the rest of my afternoon's work to stay and eat till I had to be rolled home. The okra don piazza is their take on a favorite Punjabi (northern india) dish of mine: okra sautéed with cumin, ginger, onions, garlic, tomatoes. Here it's chilis, garlic, onions and tomatoes. It's one of my favorite ways to eat okra outside of gumbo and fried okra and pickled okra and blanched okra--damn i just like okra. So how does a place so popular fail? Let's review. Expensive for the serving sizes, many dishes came to the table without request, as did many sides and drinks. The owner/waiter/hilarious comedy relief provided entertainment with his wanderings throughout the small but full room. The highlight of the meal wasn't the food, but the host's eccentric behavior. It seems he drained the life out of the two waitresses and used it for his constant antics. The food was average, in my experience. Nothing extremely special, but better then bought from the store sauces. In the end being charged +$65 for two $15 dishes and two drinks put a damper on this location. I doubt I will return given my other findings for Indian cuisine in the area (see my other reviews or just try Seva). The ambience would be nice, if not for the fact that you'll be packed into a tiny room elbow to elbow with other people in rickety old chairs and an even smaller table. Lighting and painting made for a pretty background. If I do return, I will have some chai tea and sit back and enjoy the host's crazed antics.
