They have very poor communication skills they don't answer your emails or texts for days or weeks. If you're lucky .they installed the solar panels in one day in April 2023 they also installed a panel box but they never passed inspection so they have never connected my solar panels and I am paying the bank every month and Solar is not even running and it's already going to be October 2023 I would not recommend this company and the representative is Anthony Castillo and the contractor is Cole De Arman If anybody has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. They wasted my time, would bug for my business and when I finally gave it to them, all went downhill. I had been waiting for a response since last November on what was going on with installing my solar panels. Matteo calls me and leaves a message saying I had given up on them when I was like "what?" I have yet to hear the update on my panels. He said they have been trying to get ahold of me which was bs and my loan expired so he ran it again and it declined. Of course it declined because I had taken out student loans and used my credit cards for other stuff during all of this. Then he advises me that he has a credit lady who can help me with my bad habits. Whatever! A waste of time and a hit to my credit report. I will never waste my time like this again. Tax break or not, don't use people for your own benefit and discard them when you get nothing out of it. Update: 7/18/23 I was contacted by Cody since they read my review but really, unless I can get my solar panels installed and my past due electricity bill paid as promised by Matteo, nothing will make this right. Don't get caught up in the promises of the $25,000 tax break, it sounds good but in reality, unless something happens, you'll get nothing. I still can't believe Matteo called me and said I had given up on the matter when I had sent him a text in April asking for an update and heard nothing. I really got screwed and now have to wait 7 years to get these hard inquiries dropped off my credit report. Make sure if a solar company reaches out, do your research to make sure they are honest and will put the customer first. read more

This is an update to previous review on the installation. Everything is up and running. The system was installed on January 15, 2024. Kota engineers came out a couple of times to adjust settings and touch up (paint the conduit to match stucco). City inspection was scheduled for January 31 and passed. I get door to door soliciting. It's a thing that happens and still exists. I have no issues with people knocking on my door. What I have issues with is how they engage with me. Trevor knocked on my door and proceeded to pitch me on Kota. I shared my mom is the owner of the home and is currently in the Philippines. For some reason after that he continued to say "you can translate for your mom". At one point he also said "we can have this conversation without her, you seem smart." It's infuriating to experience micro aggressions like that. All the while he wasn't even looking at me, chewing his gum, and didn't even introduce himself or ask for my name until halfway into the conversation. I get sales. It's not fun sometimes, but be a little considerate when you talk to a complete stranger at their home. read more

My experience with Kota energy was excellent. I worked with Marco who was one of the first Solar reps who pitched to us. After going through quotes with several other sales people, we realized a lot of them were downright dishonest and trying to upsell us into buying a battery which we didn't need as we were still eligible for NEM 2.0 We felt Marco was super transparent and honest and even guaranteed us getting into NEM 2.0 as we were just a week and a half away from the deadline for submitting paperwork. Getting into 2.0 was important for us as the system wasn't really saving us much money if we had to buy a battery and Kota delivered on their promises. We were kept in the loop via our project manager about the status of our application regularly. The site survey and paperwork/permitting documents were submitted in time to SCE and once ultimately approved, we were given a time/date to schedule the install. The install crew showed up on time on the day and were done within ~5-6 hours and we finally had a fully operational system in about 2 weeks. Throughout the process Kota communicated in a timely manner and everyone was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend anyone to go with Kota and Marco for their solar needs read more

After I gave below review in the very beginning, the CEO Cole called me directly and not only sincerely apologized to me for the poor customer service, but also explained to me for the details from design perspective. We've decided to monitor one year to see the production first. And if it does not meet the estimate, KOTA will come and fix the issue. Only 4x stars because the initial design was not optimized. The two years old data was being used to generate shade report. But the CEO Cole understood my concern and will keep in touch after 1 year production so I'm fine with that. They always start off with the same pitch " We are here today because we've been helping your neighbors save money." I have given Kota Energy Group a lot of time to make things right with the recent lack of professional service I have received from them. I want to share my experience with anyone that maybe considering business with KOTA. I have emails, text messages, call logs, and USPS certified letter receipts to validate the below mentioned. I believe that it is important to share my experience. I will start off by saying all the field technicians and installers that came out to my house were very professional and courteous. Now, to briefly explain the horrible experiences with this company. For starters, I was in the solar process for six (6) months. The experience included errors on paperwork submitted to "Southern California Edison" (SCE), three (3) "no-call, no-shows," lies told by project managers, several calls and text messages to project managers left unanswered/not replied too, over 60-80 broken tiles on my roof (replaced after I reached out), and a drive down to the Newbury Park office only to be told there was no one there for me to speak with. I conducted A LOT of follow-ups between Edison and KOTA on my end to get the project completed, including getting my "permission to operate (PTO)" pushed through. On Kota's website they state "HOW WE DO IT, we care from your initial contact with KOTA, all the way through installation and system activation, we are hyper focused on making sure you know we care. You'll see it in the details of our everyday operations. We care about your experience going solar, and we care about our planet." This is not upheld AT ALL by the administration of KOTA. I have sent approximately 4-5 rounds of emails to management teams at KOTA and have not received any responses. I have sent three (3) rounds of USPS certified letters to project managers and executives which include the CEO of the company and have received ZERO responses. I was told by two (2) project managers that the CEO would call me, but I am still waiting for that call today. All the correspondence was regarding my poor customer experience with KOTA. Again, I am sharing my six months of adventures so that if you are considering this company, you won't have to experience the level of incompetence for a service that you are paying a lot of money for. SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH A WORTHY COMPANY. read more

Be VERY careful using this company. The sales team could not even come through with the information I asked for. Here is my story. A salesperson came to my door asking to allow them a bid. I did so and he returned the next day with another person -- who did all the talking. The panels would be on the front of my house, and I told them I didn't want any conduit showing. They ASSURED me that they hid it whenever possible. I asked for a few addresses where they previously installed panels on the front of houses so that I could verify. A few days later, I got 6 addresses. NONE of them had panels on the front and half of those had conduit running along the roof. I told the person giving me the info that isn't what I wanted. He then gave me 6 more addresses which I took my wife with and checked out. Half of those had the panels on the front and every one of them had the conduit running over the roof. I told them that so far, I cannot see anything to assure me that they can or would hide the conduit. Now another person contacted me and again assured me they would give me some addresses where they have done this. Two weeks later, no more information. If they cannot produce reasonable information in the sales group, how likely are they going to support you if something goes wrong. read more

The quality is second rate at best. The cheapest materials used. Two years in and the roofing that they claimed I needed is leaking like a sieve. The storm of 2023 showed issues which they claimed were fix and since the rest of the year was light rain we did not notice any issues. I wish I could give Kota Energy Group zero stars because my experience has been an absolute nightmare. It has been over two months since my solar panels were installed. And now the company's lack of integrity and communication has left my solar project incomplete with no answers on what's to come. After finally being able to speak to the vendor that installed the panels, we learned that Kota has refused to pay their vendors, which has caused the vendor to completely freeze our project until they get paid. This has not only left me in a frustrating limbo but has also resulted in unfinished work on my property. It's clear that their financial irresponsibility has a direct impact on the quality of their services and their ability to complete projects on time. What's even worse, we have been asked for payment on an incomplete project. As a result we are paying a utility bill and for a non- functioning solar installation. To compound my frustration, Kota has left us in complete silence for two months since the installation. I've tried calling, emailing, texting, and if they were local to Colorado, I would stop by their office in person. But it seems like they have mastered the art of ignoring their customers. About to dive in and research this company and after all the negative reviews it has confirmed my suspicions. I've just become responsible for my 83 old uncle with onset dementia who was clearly manipulated into having solar installed on his very old 100 year old house that is falling apart. How the city approved this installation is highly questionable considering the old roof has never been replaced, the integrity of the structural roof I'm sure was not evaluated by an engineer, and sounds like they placed the solar on top of rolled out tar paper. WHAT INTEREST. On the day I paid off the loan, I was told that they would not charge that interest. Paid in full. Now telling me that the interest started the day after installation. Kota installed solar panels right next to an old hot water heater vent that prevents 2 of our panels from performing at full capacity. At first Kota refused to address the issue and basically said the pipe is the problem. That is exactly my point. They are the experts so why would they propose putting the panels so close to the vent in the first place. After dozens of attempts to get them to address the issue they finally scheduled a day to come out and look at the issue. An hour before the appointment they texted a cancellation message saying they'd get back with me with a new day. They didn't do so. After another call they had me on hold once again. They then proposed charging me to remove the panels while I paid another company to remove the vent and then Kota would charge me to reinstall the panels. It has been maddening trying to deal with this company after they received payment for the panels and installation. I expect them to take responsibility for their error and make this right in order for us to get 100% out of our panels. We specifically went through all of our future electrical needs when deciding on the number of panels to install and now we are not getting what we paid for. We are extremely disappointed and expect this matter to be rectified. After dozens of attempts to get this company to address this issue - I finally received a call. That call was only due to a review I'd left on the web - not because of any direct calls or emails to on them. It was my understanding, pursuant to a 1/17 voice mail received from Miguel, that Kota would be lining up a roofer to come out and remove an old vent and patch that area. The voicemail also states that he would be contacting me again. However, I still have not heard back. Talk about taking the money and running. read more

Update: bemused by the passive aggressive response from the owner. I'm far from being the only person who has commented on their door to door salesmen marketing. What I didn't state in my original review and what prompted me to write is that the salesman actually stopped twice at our house, on the same day, within a span of hours, after our first interaction in which we politely but firmly expressed our disinterest in their services. During the pandemic. A more welcome response from the owner would have simply been an acknowledgement of the feedback (shared by others it seems), a statement about taking it into consideration, and a polite request to remove the review since the marketing is being addressed/reviewed internally and it would be helpful to only have reviews commenting on the actual product and service. Which would've been great and I would have been happy to remove this review. But the slightly snarky review was certainly unexpected. read more

Horrific customer service. Really the entire process, from the moment I signed the contract, has been like pulling teeth. It took them forever to get the permits through the city (to the point where I actually made my first financing payment before a single watt of electricity was produced - thankfully they refunded me that payment). They installed the incorrect configuration, leaving out a consumption meter. When I called about it, the agent confidently told me that it wasn't included in my purchase agreement and that I could have it put in for $500. Thankfully, my project manager reached out and told me it could be installed within a week or two. Fast forward five weeks and I am badgering them to provide me with an install date. They give me a date, then fail to show up. They give me another date, then fail to show up. Then they LIE about that one (saying "it must have been installed incorrectly so we'll send someone out"). Finally, after I call them again, they got someone out to install it. There have probably been 15 instances where I have contacted them and they assured me that someone would be back to me later that day or the next day. In exactly ZERO of those occurrences did someone actually reach out. I've had to contact them and try to corner the person for an answer. Finally, I am not satisfied with the design of the system. They list it as a 3.2 MW system (8 panels at 400w each) but installed microinverters which choke each panel down to a production of about 260w. When I pressed them, they gave me a generic excuse about "most of their customers being large businesses and this is the most cost effective for them..." How about provide all of your customers with a choice for the design that suits them? PLEASE do yourself a favor and select a different provider. read more

Salesman was dishonest and, from my online investigation with state databases, he was unlicensed. He wanted us to sign everything on a tablet. Who then is going to take the time to read the fine print? The total amount he told us for the solar project did not match up at all with what the written proposal indicated.
