My wife and I each rented hybrids, and it took me several tries to find a bike that seemed functional. Multiple had loose front wheels that wouldn't tighten, but after a few attempts the attendant was able to get one tightened. Sizing and fitting aren't really part of the process -- this was more of a "just pick whatever bike you want" situation. Soon after we left, I realized that my tires were underinflated, so we had to go back for air. And midway through our ride, huffing and puffing to maintain speed, we realized that most of the brakes were rubbing -- both wheels on my bike, and the front wheel on my wife's. At $40 for a half day per bike, this was a disappointing experience. If you're looking for a rental bike to bum around for a few hours, this might be fine, but if you want to go for a real ride I'd recommend renting elsewhere, or making sure that River Outfitters improves their maintenance practices.

Hotel Indigo rented out our bikes to some of their guests so they were gone when we came downstairs. It was the last night of our trip and so we couldn't get the bikes back from the hotel to return them. The hotel said they would drop them off and didn't. The River Outfitters actually went to the hotel and retrieved the bikes for us and didn't charge us anything for going over time or the inconvenience after hearing our story. They were super understanding! I wish more companies would treat their customers like this.

Once you realize that, you'll be fine. We stayed in the hemlock cabin. This cabin is close to the road but we knew that so expected traffic noise. Upon arrival, we found a plate of yummy pastries inside for our enjoyment and air conditioning which we didn't expect. The host is very friendly and let us change our reservation date without charge because we had an emergency at home. Very grateful for that! These cabins are nice and it sort of feels like camping. You get a picnic table, a bbq, and fire pit. There's a huge yard with things for kids of all ages to enjoy right by the office. They thankfully sell firewood, which we bought because our gas station wood was wet. The bed was broken down quite a bit and didn't do my back any good, but if that sort of thing doesn't bother you, you'll be fine. Tight bathrooms and no table for your belongings, but it was sufficient. We took a lovely walk to the lake and enjoyed a break from the traffic noise. They have a nice deck with chairs to enjoy along with boats if you want to go out onto the lake to fish or whatever. There are many rules noted inside the cabin about linens, garbage, etc. We've never seen anything like that before. I hope we did everything correctly. We would recommend this place to someone but would suggest a cabin further back in the woods to avoid the road noise.

It was winter and we pretty much had the run off the place, so w didn't need to worry about disturbing anyone. They were kind enough too bring in a lazy-boy chair which is much more comfortable than couches that can serve as extra bedding. There kitchen was modern, which was somewhat of a disappointment, but we understand that the market demands some updates. They have some newer cabins on the property, but I sincerely enjoy the rustic ambiance of the cabin we chose. The staff was kind enough to keep the secret, even while my nosey wife tried to figure out what was going to happen and called them before the weekend. The hot tub is a fine size for even four people, and there is a sign up sheet to claim your time slot. More importantly, a small business could have just as easily said "There tub is closed for repairs" just knowing it's not cost effective to operate just for one couple coming in. But it was running, ready and relaxing! Kudo's for their honest business practice! It's also very close to downtown TC so antiquing and downtown browsing it's not too long of a drive away.

The owners Damon and Angela are real friendly, and want to make sure your stay is a good one. The cabins are old and may be a little creeky, but the insides are lean and updated with new bath fixtures, new kitchens with new cabinets, sink, counters, stove and fridge. They have been busy remodeling and cleaning them up. They are only 1/2 hour to sleeping bear, Traverse City, or Glen Arbor.They are on the Platte River, and Damon will drive you upstream, drop you off with tubes so you can cruise back to the cabins. There are firepits eveywhere for you to relax quietly, and even chat with neighbors or the owners if you like. There is your own private deck on the river you can sit and relax at, with a fiepit nearby. They told us some great places to go fishing. They have free wifi.

Why is it called the Spring Lighthouse. We arrived later than expected, probably interrupting the Innkeepers Dinner. Darci greeted us warmly and we chatted for a couple of minutes before making our way up to our room. I was instantly impressed by the charms of this well appointed, wondrous home. Next it was outside to check out the grounds. The sky was overcast but it did not diminish the property's beauty in the least. Time for Breakfast, I mean, it is half the name. We were greeted by Innkeepers Darci & Tom. They are such an incredible couple. The type of people you'd hope to meet on vacation, and then spend some quality time with. Warm, friendly, and so very comfortable to be around. Even if they couldn't cook I would have had a great start to my day. But shortly we were blown away by a delicious Blueberry Stuffed French Toast. I realized we were experiencing the very best of both worlds. I have stayed in some of the top-rated B&B's in the north east quadrant of our country and have never felt so fortunate to be sharing a home. Honestly, six nights was not nearly enough. About the name, "Spring" is very appropriate. The property is so mentally renewing. It, along with Tom & Darci, help create a positive frame of mind. Angst and worries melt into comfort and relaxation. A Reiki massage for the mind. Lighthouse? I'd say two words Light-Home. "Light" (natural agent that stimulates sight & makes things visible). Once the sun goes down, being able to sit outside by the fire table with a mug of tea and/or hot chocolate.   The B&B is located close to the little downtown, and it is easy to take a stroll into down and go to a local restaurant while taking in the view of the lake. The rooms were amazing and the grounds were wonderful to walk around, but above that, the service was fantastic. Before I left, I felt like I had become a close friend. Alice, who runs the place was so wonderful and the breakfast she made was the best I have had. In addition, her son Charles was one of the most interesting people I have met. Charles manages the property and takes care of the grounds, Bee Hives, Chickens, etc. Each place you looked there was something interesting; from the apple trees to the flowers all the way down to the rocks who were decorated by some very talented grandchildren. I not only highly recommend this B&B, I plan to go back every year to have our sales meeting.
