The perfect place to rent a kayak in TC! I had never kayaked before and my husband had only kayaked once before when he was a kid. The younger guy who was working was very patient with us and took the time to explain things (and helped calm my nerves). He did a great job telling us where to kayak to and helped us get into the water. An hour rental was plenty for us newbies and we had an absolute blast out on the water. Had a great time paddling on a perfect October day. The guy at the booth gave us great advice about which way to go and great recommendations for lunch and breweries. Definitely book for 4 hours, 1 is not enough! They provide the kayak, paddles, life vests and a bike lock for when you get off for lunch. No need to bother with their add ons, just bring a few ziplock bags from home to keep your stuff dry. Had a great time, great fun and value would go again!! read more

We rented bikes here on a Sunday because it was the only place open past 4 or 5pm. We were able to get two seven speed bikes for four hours for $60, which is steep, but it's also right on the marina in downtown TC... so I guess we paid for convenience. It's right next to the TART and easy to get to the Leelanau Trail, and we were able to do the full trail plus walk around Suttons Bay for an hour and return our bikes at 7pm. The rental process was easy and it was great for what we needed. I would always prefer 21-speed bikes or a road bike, but the late opening hours definitely gives this place a huge advantage. read more

Quite possibly the most fun you'll have in Traverse City for the least amount of money. My recommendation is the Hull Park kayak tour. They will shuttle you out to the Boardman Lake where you can paddle down the river through downtown TC and back onto the west bay of Lake Michigan. They also have brewery tours, bike rentals, and stand up paddleboards. I brought my family while they were visiting and it was a highlight of the whole week. Come check them out! read more

My family of three rented a tandem and single kayak on the one hour trip. We chose Paddle TC after reading reviews of this and other rental places. The river was beautiful and peaceful. There was one portage but we were assisted in and out of the water. (I think a paddle/peddle tour was happening at the same time) The stretch between the opening of the river and the boat ramp was a little challenging but not impossible. I wanted to write this review because of how helpful the staff were with getting in and out of the kayaks. This made made the experience more enjoyable and less intimadating for us novice kayakers. read more

This is an excellent business. My wife and I have gone to Traverse City twice this summer, and each time we've done our kayak rentals here. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. Our favorite thing to do is get dropped off upriver with a tandem kayak and paddle our way back to the bay. Jeff discouraged us from our original kayak plan (which was on Lake Michigan itself) and he was late opening the shop. He recommended we stick to the river tour, which we did, and it was nice but he also didn't explain anything about kayaking our the boat. He just handed us the stuff and walked off. The trip was very nice though. Scenic and good places to stop off for a bite to eat or drink. We rented a tandem kayak for 8hrs and made it all the way up river and back in less than 7 and that was even with stopping off for a beer at The Filling Station.
