We stumbled onto this local little gem while on our way to Florida. Tired of the chain restaurants we wanted something different and always up for southern BBQ we figured we'd give this place a try. We walked in a party of 6, not sure if we'd be able to all sit together as all we saw were booths. I didn't notice a sign telling us if we should wait to be seated but it was clear it was a local hang out and I thought *maybe we weren't welcome. It took only a few seconds for someone to tell us to help ourselves to any seat and we walked around the corner to a far back section of tables where all 6 of us could sit comfortably. The menu isn't fancy and the food is basic American bar and BBQ food but it was a big menu and cheap! You are not eating healthy here but that's the point!! Our party of 6 spent @ $46 with the tip - 1 kid meal, 1 BLT w/ side, 1 burger w/side, 2 half slabs of ribs, 1 steak sandwich w/side. We went out of our way to get the mutton barbecue. Very disappointed when the waitress said, " The kitchen doesn't think it looks very good." I'm still wondering exactly what that means. Our visit to Kountry Kastle will be our LAST! On March 19, 2025 - time was "late Lunch". Location - down hall to Last Room - but not through it. There were two problems - service and obscene offensive language. The "WAITress" only appeared to: Take Order Deliver Order Deliver Bill Three obviously intoxicated males arrived and were seated nearest the hall. They were responsible for LOUD and OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE One gave graphic and extensive description of how he crashed his motorcycle while doing a wheelie, told his wife a lie about the crash, and how his wife found out the truth. At least every second sentence contained the offensive word. In my years I have been in some questionable bars/saloons. None would have tolerated/allowed such conduct. Every single item on the menu is good, but you have to try the catfish basket. The fish is cooked to perfection and you get a mountain of food. My niece first took me here years ago and it became tradition to come back. I would always ask her where do you want to sit and she would say anywhere and then walk over to the booth by the jukebox and sit down. So she is no longer with us but I come back here in memory of her and to enjoy the wonderful food. Later I found out this booth had special meaning for her, so it does for me as well. They have the best large barbecue! It is big and it is thick. No skinny sandwich here. Their crinkle cut french fries are very hot when they come to the table and their fountain drinks are full of crushed ice and filled to the brim with your drink. Their service is excellent also. read more

From the outside, Kountry Kastle appears to be a massive tourist trap. But, when you enter, it is like a dark dive bar from the 1970's. The ceilings are low, the beer is cheap, and you will see the bar area as soon as you enter. Sometimes there is a juke box blasting and FOX news on the TV, but sometimes it is completely silent and creepy. The food here is resembles greasy stuff that a carnie would hand you out of a wobbly box at the county fair. Dipped in grease for a low price. The pulled pork is neutral and the sauce is runny and full of black pepper. There are four different types of fries to choose from, their most popular being the cajun seasoned fries. The frosty mug rootbeer is not free refill. My Dad ordered the fried bologna sandwich, husband ordered the smoked sausage with peppers and onions. I had the pulled pork sandwich platter, the highlight being the baked beans. I was really not feeling the beans because they had too much bell pepper flavor to them, but they had the most flavor of everything on the platter. The little dip standing behind the counter was far more interested in talking to a customer about something non-work related than she was in taking my money. I waited on her for what seemed like several minutes before she even acknowledged me. Then, she snapped at me when I told her I needed to hurry by telling me she really wasn't working there. But she eventually checked me out anyway. How could she work the register if she didn't work there? Not going back soon, too many other places in this community where the wait staff are glad to have the job and are courteous to customers. Ok, so according to the menu, apparently this is the oldest single-family owned restaurant in Paducah--made from hand-poured concrete blocks brought by horse & buggy from the Mayflower, or something. Well, whatever the provenance, they sure can make a great, simple, sliced ribeye philly sandwich. I ate half of it before I remembered to take a picture, but it was full of tender steak (I ordered double meat), and it actually had a healthy amount of grilled onions, swiss, and grilled green bell peppers--not like some philly sandwhiches that have a few onion slices and look like the cook just didn't feel like messing with the bell pepper. A very simple, but good sandwich. This is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, to be sure--it even has a gentlemen's club called "Indiscretions," or something, next door, and comes complete with no-nonsense servers who swing by your table with your foil-paper-wrapped sandwich, plop it down in front of you, (sans plate--that's what the wrapper is for, dummy) then walk off. I mean, this aint' no fancy-pants city place where they come back after a while to check on you, or even give you silverware, (I went to the bar to get mine)--hell, that's why you have opposable thumbs. But, all things considered--the cheap prices, good selection, and really good ribeye philly--this place gets 4 stars in my book. They have a gigantic menu of hot dogs, fries, burgers, barbecue, exc., and they taste great (also excellent service)! When I walked in I must say I wasn't expecting a bar atmosphere, But we still had a great time. We got to sit wherever we wanted, and on a Thursday night it was packed. The one booth left had a tray on it, as well as it had not been wiped off but it was one of the only seats left so we grabbed it. The waitress was polite, they didn't have hot tea, but we got a soft drink and water. We ordered Mozz sticks, onion rings, and a herd of wings!
