This place hardly qualifies as a barbecue restaurant. The normal items you'd find at any barbecue place seem to be lost on whoever is running this place. Want ribs - they don't have them. Chicken - not here. Sausage, turkey, burnt ends, sliced brisket - no where to be found. They serve two things - pulled pork and shredded brisket. Either of which can be found in your local grocer's deli section and probably more flavorful as well. And only two sides - fries or some random ingredient yellow slaw that tastes like someone's bad food experiment. On the plus side, the service was great...but there's not a chance of us coming back for a second disappointing meal. read more

While staying in the area I kept encountering people recommending this place. I'm somewhat conflicted about it because while the flavor is there the portions are pretty small. When I think bbq I think big heaping plates of meat or sandwiches piled high. Their pork has a wonderful taste, it's got good flavor and it's plenty moist enough. However both my wife and myself was left wanting more after eating our meals. We both could have easily ate 2 sandwiches at the size of the ones we were served. The fries were crispy and fried perfectly and could've used some salt. I overheard a waitress telling another customer she added salt to his bag because they don't salt them so that's on me for not asking for some. The place is worth a try if you're in the area as there's not much else around. However don't come too hungry or you may leave disappointed. While the flavor is there, the value just isn't at all. read more

Love the smoked brisket from here and their tangy sauce which I am guessing is a vinegar based sauce. The only draw back is they don't have a lot of sides to choose from, baked beans or fries, no slaw. My friends and husband also like their pulled pork. My childhood visits to my grandmother's in western KY would never be complete without a stop at Knoth's. I hadn't been here in probably ten years, but we went on a family road last week and stopped by. Nothing's changed in a decade! Same knickknacks, same pictures on the wall, same amazing BBQ. They have a smoke shack outside where the magic happens, and the kitchen inside cranks out amazing, simple, perfect BBQ sauce. Now, for the initiated, this is simple stuff. It's pulled pork on a bun, with a light touch of sauce. You're left to add more sauce or salt on your own. Some places drown their stuff in sauce, and really, you can't judge the skill of the pit master because all you get is sauce. Here, they let the quality of the pork speak for itself. You don't even get a plate. Seriously. I don't care. You get a Knoth's pulled pork sandwich!! Don't get greedy. Who needs a plate? It's not like you're going to put it down once you pick it up. . . There isn't a printed menu here, but a couple of boards on the wall with the selection posted up. Look, there's not a big variety here (understatement!), but there's only two things you want: a pulled pork sandwich and a butterscotch milkshake. I am actually really allergic to pork, but I took a handful of Benedryl, washed it down with a milkshake and ate two pulled pork sandwiches and crossed my fingers. Rate the pulled pork a 4 and the brisket a 4.5. The lighter colored pork was a little dry but the darker meat was moist. Most of the 2 lbs we got was the dark meat. The brisket was moist, tender & had nice light smoky flavor read more

If you like good smokey flavored pulled pork don't go here. I had the pulled pork plate. The portion sizes were generous. The crinkle cut fries were very good. The pork was just not flavorful. It was like the pork was cooked in the oven instead of on a smoker. You have two barbecue sauces to choose from The spicy is the best but be careful it is very spicy. The coleslaw was just okay. But it had a strange yellow color. You also got two slices of white bread. Who eats white bread any longer? How about some rye bread? Also I was informed by my server when I ordered my tea that they don't have any lemons. Don't know if that was just the day I was there or if that is their standard practice not to carry lemons. After waiting 30 minutes for 2 barbecue plate orders, our waitress finally comes up to us to tell us there was a mixup in the kitchen and our order went to someone else. We were understanding, but after another 15 minutes, we still had no food. My husband got up to tell them we were leaving and why, and they charged him for 2 teas, and I had water. Ate here on Saturday, March 26 2016. A pork sandwich, fries and Cole slaw was close to $8. However it wasn't served on a plate, they just brought out a wrapped sandwich, container of fries and small container of slaw and set it on the counter in front of me. The sandwich was a real let down, with barely any meat. The meat itself was clearly not smoked very long because it was chopped and not pulled apart and I didn't taste any smoke taste. The mild BBQ sauce was bland and boring, and the spicy was overloaded with black pepper. The slaw had huge chunks of cabbage and was booger green. This was a real let down. For the price, I barely got any actual BBQ meat, and I felt like I was an inconvenience by eating there rather than taking it out. Even their platter meals I saw served on foam plates. That crazy at the price they are charging. The mild sauce tasted like something you would buy at Walmart and the hot sauce wasn't enjoyable, it just had a ton of black pepper dumped in it. I stayed the weekend in the cabins across the street and this place smelled so good, but it was a huge let down when I actually went over and tried it. read more

We went to Knoth's for dinner the other night for 3 reasons. 1. We always go out to eat after finishing a craft fair because we're all too tired to cook. 2. Other places we looked at closed after lunch. 3. Good reviews on Yelp. I really don't know why there are so many outstanding reviews. The place is run down but I wasn't looking for ambiance so that wasn't a big deal to me. I've eaten at many places that don't look like much have have unbelievable food. This was not one of those places. First of all, there isn't much of a menu. Your choices are pork or beef (plate or sandwich), hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dog, or grilled cheese. And they were out of beef when we were there. So we all got pork plates which includes fries, coleslaw, and white bread. The pork was fine but wasn't anything to write home about. I didn't like the almost neon yellow coleslaw and the fries are the frozen crinkle kind. Secondly, let's talk about sauces. There are two. And neither one is very good. The "mild" is a sweetened mustard based sauce that doesn't seem to have enough body to really be classified as a barbecue sauce. The second sauce is considered their "spicy" sauce, but it's basically a bottle of black pepper with some regular barbecue sauce mixed in. Now don't get me wrong, I love spicy. I mean, I really LOVE spicy. But this wasn't spicy. This was swallowing a handful of black pepper. Would I go back to Knoth's? Maybe. If I'm back in town and it's after lunchtime and I'm too lazy or tired to cook myself. That's a lot of "ifs" though. read more

We were camping in the area. Since it was storming we decided to grab something to eat and bring it back to the camper. Searching Yelp we found Knoths close by. We both had the pulled pork dinner. Cut to the bottom line - Outstanding! There was a little sauce on the meat but while the sauce was very good the meat didn't need it. The pork had the great smoked meat flavor. Not so much to over powering the meat. Just the right amount. The pork was way, most excellent tender. Knoth's know how to smoke a pork. The real surprise was the cole slaw. It had a yellow tint which initially we couldn't figure if it was ok. Then we tasted it. Oh yeah, it's ok for sure. We think the yellow tint was honey mustard. I know, honey mustard doesn't sound good on cole slaw. So how does it taste? Pretty darn good! So good that from now on we're putting a splash of honey mustard on all our cole slaw. This was a home run. They don't skimp on quantity either. We're big eaters and can put away the food. Knoth's beat us this time. There was enough left overs we got 2 meals out of our orders. The prices were great too. I don't want to use the word cheap because that sounds low quality. Low prices. Knoth's is our go to place every time we're in the area. A solid winner! Hands down the best BBQ in Western Kentucky. In all fairness, I've had relatives work here in the past. I did grow up nearby and have eaten here since I could chew, but I've had smoked swine from all points South of here )MS, SC, NC, TX, etc) and it is the real Deal. Very consistent with a smoke ring of perfection. I seldom travel through Western KY without procuring a LB or two and a bottle of the Hot Sauce. DO NOT MISS!! It's worth a very short detour. I've had food catered from here before and it was great. But I recently stopped here while passing through. It was not great. I ordered a BBQ sandwich on toast with slaw on the side and water with a lemon. The waitress brought me my ticket and she had charged me $17.00! I questioned her and showed her that a sandwich plate was $6.99, but she said since I substituted the bun for toast that there was an up-charge. An $11 up-charge is extreme for bread! I was able to speak to a manager who finally agreed to let me have my sandwich for the price on the board. But he was backing her quote of $17.00. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

I must confess....my family has been eating here longer than I've been in existence. Every holiday for as long as I've been alive has been accompanied by a pork shoulder from Knoth's. If you don't know what that is, then you have no idea what you're missing. I'm talking about some of the best stuff you could possibly eat, smothered in incredible bbq sauce. This is a quaint (I mean that in a good way) BBQ joint. The servers were very nice and polite and it had the air of a local restaurant. Decor was diner style with booths, tables, and a bar. So what about the food. The BBQ was typical and the sauce was very good. I read one of the earlier reviews and agree that this sauce is good. The slaw was mustard based and had a good flavor. I definitely liked it. However, the menu has a definite lack of choice. All you can get is fries, slaw, and bread. The fries were basic. The bread was just that: white bread. It wasn't toast. They only take cash, so leave the plastic at home. All in all, I was not overly impressed and won't likely go back. read more

There were lots of good reviews so thought I'd try it. However, it was very underwhelming. The service was fast and friendly though. I got a 1/2 pound beef to go. When I got to my motel, I found that a "half pound" was the small corner of a foam box. There couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 ounces of meat. I wish I would have had a scale. The meat was fine but not great. The fries and slaw were barely average. I was really disappointed overall and won't be back. A number of reviews said it was the best. Been coming here almost weekly for two years. Disregard all negative reviews, this is great food. Service is very fast, you can be in and out in 30 minutes easy. My two picky children LOVE this place. Yes the menu is limited, because what they offer is no frills, top notch pulled pork and brisket. The cole slaw is very unique but the flavors pair up perfectly with the bbq and fries. GET A MILKSHAKE with your grub. I have family and friends visit from all over, everyone has loved it. We ordered a whole smoked turkey for Thanksgiving 2018, and I picked it up Thursday morning the 22nd. The wonderful aroma filled my car and we couldn't wait to try it! It was a huge disappointment when the turkey was very dry. The flavor was very good but it wasn't moist at all. The turkey is always the center of our holiday dinner but no one hardly ate any of it, and no one wanted the leftovers! On another note, when I stepped through the doorway (I had never been there before) there's a little ledge on the floor, where the concrete is just slightly higher; it wasn't noticeable, and I stumbled and almost fell. If I hadn't caught myself by reaching out my hand onto the nearby wall, I probably would have been on the floor. I told the cashier that she really needed to inform the owners of the safety hazard. I grew up just down the road from the original Knoth's location. I left over 40 years ago, just after high school. I still think of the "new" location as The Diamond, but the food is as good as always. I've had lots of BBQ in many places around the world. My benchmark for BBQ is still a pork sandwich, no sauce. Western Kentucky is the best in the world, and Knoth's is at the top. Hospitality is also great. During my last visit from California, I met up with my brother and his wife and daughter, now from Atlanta. We stopped by the Coon Dog Inn in Fredonia for a take-out Chocolate Meringue pie. My niece has never lived in Kentucky, but she knows the food so we're making all the rounds. We take the pie to Knoth's and share with the waitress in exchange for plates and forks to go with the pork sandwiches. That's the kind of hospitality you'd get in your mother's kitchen.
