Three stars is for the service and the attentiveness by my waitress. She did a great job and made the experience here better than what it was. Got here when they opened on a week day and there was already a couple gentlemen waiting to get in. The inside is spacious with ample seating, and about four seats at the bar top. I got the Western Omelette and order hash browns along with it, as shown in the menu as an option. The food came out and the omelette was undercooked and still a bit runny. The waitress noticed this right away and sent it back to be cooked longer. Received potatoes instead of hash browns, and when asked why no hash browns, was then told they have only potatoes. As well, was given an option for cheese in my omelette, but instead was given a slab of Kraft cheese on top. Food was ok, service was great. read more

Such a cute location, when I saw it I thought... Home cooking! I was right! I was greeted by 4 waitresses as soon as my husband and I came in! The environment has diner vibes and very good, grandmas cooking tastes! It felt almost like we walked into a home setting, everyone was smiles and laughing and casually talking to one another, such a sense of community. Quaint restaurant. Quick service and food comes out quick as well. Lots of choices for sides, but many of the vegetables like the garden peas and the green beans are very clearly canned. It's not terrible, but Id appreciate if they would at least use frozen vegetables. From times I've Been here in the past, years ago everything we ordered always came with a salad. Now I don't think anything does. The sea mullet, when broiled, is amazing. If this is on their specials board and you're in the mood for seafood, it's a travesty to order anything else! Their fried scallops are okay, but the breading came off too easily to really eat. The fried oysters were good though, and for the combo seafood dinner the Portion was plentiful. The country fried steak was small. Their shrimp burgers are piled high with shrimp, I highly recommend that. Cash only! Id certainly recommend it. read more

I used to come here all the time! Great atmosphere and location right off 70. It's Tucktaway in the back of a few stores where you wouldn't expect it. The staff is always friendly and keeps your cup filled up with coffee or tea. The food is good. Omelets are good also, they are very thin and don't have the fluff or frittata feel to them. Reminds me of a waffle house omelet... we always come if we're in the area. Def gives you the small town feel of an ever growing Morehead City. read more

I love the Kountry kitchen for it"s good food and good people. I average eating with them twice a week. Their shrimp,oyster and flounder plate is the best seafood dish and deal in NC. Their hamburger steak with grilled onions, rutabaga and cabbage is the best I've eaten anywhere. Their Virginia Ham steak meal at breakfast will fill up two people anytime. On Fresh Fried Chicken Sunday you can't get in the door once church lets out. You can't go wrong at the Kountry Kitchen. read more

Mmmm the country gravy is sooooo good and if you get some over your hash browns you will be in heaven! The most recent time I went, the person I was meeting got caught up at work and was quite late. The waitress was quite understanding. The inner grammar police inside of me (that lives under my love of excessive comma use) hated that K in country ...I see it as klassy instead of classy. Anyways, when I got beyond that and walked inside from having my nails done next door, I met the nicest people ever at the sweetest restaurant in town! The food is yummy and hits the spot, but make sure to follow them on Facebook so you can keep up with their daily specials. And where on earth is there a restaurant that still takes checks? The shirts the servers wear says, "home cookin' at its best." I asked the server about what kind of potato salad they have, and she responds, "oh, I'm not really sure, we don't make it." With the concept of being a country based diner, my family was very excited to find a place that served "real food". However, this ended up being typical diner that finds ways to save a penny with processed food. Biggest disappoint was the butter they serve isn't real butter. It's a combination of 60% butter with the rest being made up of oil. The waitress told my mother they don't have "real butter" at their diner. When you eat biscuits, you want real butter. The coffee wasn't fresh, even after my mother politely asked them if they could make a fresh pot. This was on a Sunday morning where it was busy, so it as perplexing why fresh coffee was such a laborious service. Needless to say, my parents were disappointed and said they will never come back here bc it's overpriced for Denny's-quality food. Disappointed. We walked into this restaurant after reading reviews as it sounded like a good place for breakfast. As we entered we recognize posted information pertaining to covid, such as, please do not enter if you are waiting results from a covid test, and certificates posted where employees had taken an online test on keeping NC safe by following safe practices. We were glad to see this. As soon as we entered, it was evident that most practices were not being followed. No employees were wearing mask! Being from out of town, it getting late morning and us wanting breakfast we made the call to eat here anyway. Knowing that we have had both rounds of the vaccine helped, otherwise we would have left. Observations we noticed were, syrup bottles not sanitized when returned, which meant they weren't when we got them, server cleared coffee cups from a table with fingers inside cups, places them in bus pan and started rolling silverware. Unsanitary under any conditions. The food was OK, eggs, bacon and gravy were good but home fries and hash browns lacked seasoning that would have made them better. We will find another place for breakfast on our way out of town tomorrow and hope for better practices and food. read more
