They have egg white options, feta cheese if I want an omelet. My favorite is shrimp and grits with no tomato or cheddar cheese. They did make it with feta. We tried the Beaufort Café for breakfast one morning. They have the standard breakfast menu. I chose the western omelette with hashbrowns and it was perfect. The portions were large, and the breakfast very good. This is a no fuse, no bells and whistles quick stop for breakfast kind of place. They offer free Internet access and invite you to bring your laptop if you need to get a little bit of work finished. read more

We were in Beaufort for a wedding and found most of the places in town did not open until 10 am. Our hotel driver had mentioned the Beaufort Cafe and we were delighted to find it open. We got a friendly getting as soon as we stepped in and were told to sit wherever we wanted. We were lucky enough to pick a table manned by one of the best servers ever, Cynthia. She was quick to get us menus and drinks and was so attentive to detail as we ordered our meals. Our food came out perfectly thanks to her asking all the right questions up front...lemon in my drink, crispy not floppy bacon, etc. Efficient but not rushed. It's not fancy but a laid back place with regulars who knew the staff and that's the best sign you made the right choice. Good food, great service and a final drink to go for our walk home! We stopped here every morning for breakfast while we were on vacation. The food was good. Parking was a little hard to find at times, but wasn't unbearable. The waitresses were nice. The one day we were there, there was only one waitress. It was obvious she couldn't break from routine. We were going to give her our entire order when she first approached us, but she could only take the drink order and come back to do the rest of the order. No problem, we were just trying to make it easier. The tables and seating were extremely clean for a breakfast restaurant. And they were quick with filling up our coffee. When they bring your breakfast, they drop the bill on the table at the same time. I couldn't find any full service breakfast establishments close to us that was inexpensive. I recommend this to everybody that just wants a good basic breakfast. read more

Recovering from a previous hurricane, the Beaufort Café is back in business and it's something to crow about! This busy, no frills diner serves up some of the best breakfast in town! Just ask the locals! The décor is plain and could use some more wall art.... sticking with the rooster and chicken theme! The tables are uncomfortably close together, we felt "cooped" up! The server's butts are literally in your face if they are waiting at your neighbor's table, and the exiting customers are squeezing by with "I'm sorry" and "Excuse me"... take out just a couple tables and make a bit more room in the aisles and your patrons' will have a more pleasant experience. If a few people have to wait for a table, it'll be worth it, "hen"ce, the "peck"ing order. There's also a couple of cute bistro tables outside. Aside from space issue which mildly "ruffled my feathers", folks come here for the good country cooking. We chose the farmers 2+2+2 breakfast. The eggs, bacon and pancakes were clucking delicious! And the southern grits were creamy, smooth and tasty. My hubby thought the coffee was weak; he normally gets a second cup but passed. The service was attentive, the prices were fair but the parking is limited. Focus on the food and you'll be a happy camper if you roost at this local joint! read more

I ate here the other day and the food is not to bad BUT today I went and here is what happened. I got there and they seated me and while I was sitting there waiting to get service I heard the lady seating people tell the kitchen there was no more people waiting, which was true. Then she saw two fire trucks pull up and park next door. She immediately started to complain openly about them coming to eat breakfast. When the 4 fire fighters in uniform got to the door she had 3 open tables but told them they could not be seated and that there was a wait. They graciously said thank you and walked away instead of looking at her and asking why they could not have one of the tables that were open. Amazing guys. I asked her about it and she said they picked the wrong day to come to breakfast. I got up and walked out. Great food, okay service. We made a quick trip to Beaufort from Emerald Isle based on recommendations and found that Beaufort cafe was one of the only breakfast places open. It truly has a diner feel with tasty hash browns and hearty omelets. Very affordable as well! The only downside of our experience was we didn't know how to order when we sat outside. We stood in the doorway for a bit, then sat outside with no waitress for a bit, then found someone at the counter inside...finally got someone to come outside to bring us menus. We also never had our waters refilled. It was definitely a busy time though. read more

We were riding MCs and camping the length of the OBX for a couple of days. Yesterday was mostly a ferry riding day, then camped at a down home campground that was simple but absolutely beautiful. So after a gorgeous sunrise over the water, cup of backpack stove coffee, we were on the bikes, through the marshes into Beaufort and onto this place. It's nondescript on a corner and clearly not yet tourist season, but appeared to be a locals favorite. We got the usual looks as bikers coming off the bikes and into the place, but the waitress cozied right up to us, brought coffee and recommended the special of the morning, the the Shrimp and Grits! As its one of my favorite low country meals I didn't hesitate, my bud guestioned S and G for breakfast, but ultimately ordered it and added a side of bacon. Looked like other normal breakfast stuff with good southern items like sliced tomatoes on the menu. Our girl brought the plates of SandG and on first bite I could tell it was moving right up to the podium! Everything about it was perfect - right temp, both heat and zing, spring onions, shrimp perfect, grits perfect, bacon, just everything! Coffee was good diner bottomless cup coffee... Although the building is crowded and cramped, the food is really good. The staff were welcoming and helpful. We did have to wait outside for a table to open, but once inside we didn't have to wait long for the food. Coffee was fresh, hash browns weren't swimming in grease, eggs were cooked how I wanted them (over easy), and my bacon wasn't over cooked. The pancakes though....the pancakes were delicious! We ate here on July 4. Great service, and this is serious hash slinging. I'm an aficionado of such things, and they aren't foolin around. Somehow every bit and angle of my hash was crisped. My western omelet delicious. And I had not had a grit cake with marmalade before, but I tried and and it was also tasty. Hubby had sausage gravy over something, he was happy. Soooo... All the good reviews and the warning it could take a short wait taken into account we were seated as soon as we walked in at 11:00 sharp. Waitress was attentive and brought our drinks right out. Flash to 12:15: We've had 2 refills on coffee and a diet soda that tasted "off". Waitress let us know there were two tickets ahead of us (1:15 later mins you). One half of our order was gravy over biscuits, the other half was two eggs over medium with a side. 75 minutes and only another 10-15 minutes to go? NOPE! Cancelled the ticket, tipped the waitress $5 and drove back to Atlantic Beach Hangry. The kitchen here is the worst I've seen in years. Many years. read more
