I tried Kowloon Chinese last week after I received a flyer/menu in the mail. Normally I order from a large restaurant here in town but I wanted to see what else is out there. Well I had a great experience with Kowloon. The people were very pleasant and the food was above average for a small take out place. I ordered wonton soup and a combo plate of the Generals Chicken/ fried rice and an egg roll. The chicken was excellent and would compare with any major Chinese restaurants. The soup was packed with tender and tasty noodles, actually more than my regular restaurant. The egg roll was crisp and also very tasty. Ordered through Amazon Prime GrubHub and it is THE WORST Chinese food I've ever had. Hugely overpriced. The House Special Lo Mein was tasteless. The Singapore Mei Fun soooo hot (I requested "medium" hotness on my order) we couldn't even eat it. I'll NEVER order from Kowloon again. Kowloon is a solid Chinese takeout place and I eat there often. IMHO, it's the best Chinese restaurant in the area.

So I've had a problem for years now. I moved too far away from my favorite Chinese restaurant and had trouble finding a place that would be my new fave. Enter Kowloon. My husband and I tried Kowloon as a last resort one night and were pleasantly surprised. Especially the scallion pancakes. I had been craving scallion pancakes but no place does them just right (except my old favorite place). Kowloon's scallion pancakes are PERFECT. It's now our GO-TO when we're in the mood for Chinese. The food keeps getting greasier and saltier. I had the flu and ordered delivery. They said delivery was $6.00, so that was fine. However, after two other "hidden costs", the delivery charge was $13.00. Worst part was the food wasn't edible. I threw it all out. Placed an online order and had my girlfriend pick it up. Needless to say she had no idea what I ordered but it was in her name, online order should be a slam dunk right? NO! She paid with her debit card (bad idea) or I just would have screwed them and ate pasta instead. They gave us the wrong order and repeated back to her what was in the bag. When I called to complain that they gave her the wrong order they told me - "I told her what was in the bag" - I said - don't try to blame it on her it is your fault! So, 1 star earn your ratings. Really good food, very good service. Good meat/veggie ratio, savory sauces, freshly cooked to order, pricing about right. Not really a dine-in sort of place, but there is limited seating if you need to enjoy on the spot. Clean, well decorated, easy parking, friendly staff. Very tasty dumplings. Kowloon specializes in old school take out Chinese (or the food Chinese people sell to people who aren't Chinese to be more accurate). Food tasted fresh and service was friendly (called in and picked up). I ordered myself a combo meal and thought the value was very good, entree, pork fried rice and an egg roll was around 8 bucks. Only 3 stars because everything was a bit lacking in flavor, I hate to say bland but Hunan chicken had just a touch of heat but not much else going on in the sauce. I felt that I really needed the soy, sweet and sour and mustard added to everything. I will try again and maybe order something a bit more adventurous and see if that kicks up the flavor. read more

The order was ready really quickly, but it wasn't what I ordered in total, and I have never tasted wonton soup like that. Not sure what it was supposed to be. What I ordered was not on the ticket and what was in the bag was not on the ticket. I'm going to try others in the area before I try here again. Supposedly this is a problem, there is a sign stating to check orders and they will not replace them if you leave. That's great customer service. I tried this place for the first time last night. I had enough food to feed me 3 meals and they only included 1 soy sauce and 1 duck sauce and no mustard!!!! My daughter went back to get me more and they gave her 2 of each. Food was bland and I feel how much could these packets cost them. All the Chinese restaurants have the option to help yourself. Look elsewhere. They are cheapening themselves on the most inexpensive items. read more

Been going here since they opened. Good food great flavor. Never had an issue till tonight. I had an issue with language. Asked for what I get every time without fail, Shrimp with garlic sauce, though she repeated that to me. Got home beef, no shrimp. Have gone here a few times since they opened. The chinese food scene is very very bad in Bethel. This place in my experience is better than the others in Bethel, but pale's in comparison to a great place in danbury (with a non-chinese name). This place is much closer to my work so I usually end up going here. Like another review mentioned their wonton soup is very weird. Tastes very watery with 2 little wonton's. read more

Finally a Chinese Restaurant in Downtown Bethel that does not disappoint. Amazingly, even in Danbury, there is no decent Chinese. Good Viet, decent Thai (not Bangkok, which is disgusting) but no Hunan, Cantonese, or Sechuan. Tender Pork in the well made moo shu, white meat chicken dishes, homemade wontons in the soup, and roast pork friend rice that satisfies while not too oily. Quality ingredients, and nice portions. New place opened in Bethel, so we tired it out on opening day. We had General's Chicken, steamed veggi dumpings, and beef with broccoli. Dinner came with egg rolls and we were out the door in 10 minutes for under $20. This place is awesome, fast and the food is great. We will be back!!! read more

Finally, a Chinese restaurant in Bethel whose food doesn't taste like it came from ubiquitous industrial tubs! My favorite, the food that caused me to write this review, is the Wonton soup. What a revelation! It's not a "brown" overly-salted broth with wontons obviously bought by the hundreds from some factory, but a light, bright, refreshing chicken broth with homemade wontons and sliced scallion tops. It's WONDERFUL and makes me think that I'll be buying lots of hot soup this winter. I do wish I could agree with the other reviewer about less oiliness, but this seems both true and not--the 1st time I got the Pork Fried Rice it was light, fluffy, and low oil, but the next time, it was rather oily--possibly because I got it in the combo box. I can't say for sure after just a couple times. But I CAN definitively say that this is the BEST of our Chinese food in Bethel! And also, they are very friendly and speak excellent English. When my husband walked in to pick up our phone-ordered food, the girl said, "Are you ----?" naming him accurately. And she was waving to him as he left! :D Can't say enough nice things about this place. If more dishes had the elevated taste of the soup I'd have given them 5 stars, but it's ALL better than ANYthing else in the other Chinese places. And to top it off? You get to watch a TV instead of a fish tank while you wait (and from a comfortable bench, no less)! read more
