Whenever I call, the nice woman who answers is friendly, calls me by name, and demonstrates her appreciation for my business. Yesterday afternoon, 2/13/25, I placed a big order: Wonton soup, pork fried rice, bbq spare ribs, steamed dumplings sesame chicken, and chicken with broccoli. Everything was delicious, cooked freshly, and portions were generous. Some places cut corners by giving less chicken, but Moon Star puts plenty of chicken in the meals. I passed by many times. I hesitate to order Chinese take out from an unfamiliar kitchen in Connecticut, as I have found the quality varies within a short radius. Prompted by two local teens who raved about Moon Star (!), I gave Moon Star a try this afternoon and ordered my usual go to of shrimp and broccoli with white sauce. It was the best I have experienced! Proportions were more generous than found elsewhere, and the size of shrimp was larger and cooked to perfection. (One caveat -- I ordered the same as a lunch special once and the shrimp were much smaller.) There is a small attractively decorated seating area. Parking is easy and the location is near popular shopping destinations for those in eastern NYS and western Connecticut (e.g. Costco, Stew Leonard's, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Home Depot) and a major hospital (Danbury). Solid all around. The egg rolls were bigger than normal Chinese restaurants and really good. The soups were flavorful and they gave extra crispy noodles without asking. The only reason for a non 5 star review was the flavor of the sweet and sour chicken order. My quest to find the best Chinese take-out place in the greater Danbury area lead me to Moon Star a few nights ago. It was difficult to find any information, but the reviews I managed to find were generally 4/5 and 5 star reviews. Well...I was totally dissappointed. To be fair, I only ordered one item, so perhaps the rest of the menu is better. I ordered the Sesame Chicken entree and subbed eggplant for the broccoli. First off, they upcharged for the substitution - which is understandable - BUT - there were literally 2 tiny pieces of eggplant in the entire dish. As for the appearance and taste - blah - just regular ol' take-out Sesame Chicken: dark, gooey, overly sweet, small clumps. I was really hoping for better than or at least on par to Jeffrey's Chinese Kitchen quality - which is nice orange, lightly fried, long strips of chicken, with tons of veggies and restaurant quality taste. Given that Jeffrey's is less than a mile away from this place - I would definitely recommend skipping Moon Star. PS: My runner up so far is Bethel Chinese Kitchen. Kind of pricier though. read more

The BEST Chinese food I have ever had. The spring rolls have chicken and cheese in them, totally Americanized but AWESOME. They make my chicken and cashews with sauce on the side no extra charge and their Cashews are so yummy (i think they might be from heaven). Their crab Rangoon are never too greasy and nothing has been over sauced (the broccoli is still crunchy). I would always recommend them to anyone in the area, seriously they are awesome. read more

My absolute favorite Chinese take out in Danbury. For starters, they have a very, very clean kitchen. Their food is very tasty and they use no MSG. That's right, no MSG! That is unheard of for most Chinese takeout spots. Their fried rice is not that usual artificial yellow color, it's not drowned in soy sauce either and is probably one of the best fried rices I've ever had.
