I recently moved to Brookfield and needed to get dinner. We were in the mood for Chinese so I did a search for places that were close to us. Moon Star is located on Federal Road and conveniently a few minutes away from me. Plenty of parking in the lot. I called for a pick up order and it was ready in the 10 minutes as promised. The woman who took the order was very courteous and pleasant. She was just as nice when I picked up the food. The food was good. We got beef and broccoli, General Tso chicken, and chicken lo mein. The beef with broccoli was very good, as was the side of fried rice. The General Tso was also good, however it needed a little more spice. I do like how they cut the chicken pieces smaller as compared to other places. Made it easier to eat and it did not have an excess of breading. The chicken lo mein was OK. I didn't have much because I do not like how lo mein is loaded with all of the vegetables. One of the meals came with an eggroll and doughnut. The eggroll was delicious. The donut was just OK. absolutely the worse chinese food i have ever had. The Hot and Sour soup had no flavor and very little additions - The dumpling appetizer was dry and the sauce was almost non-existent. I thought they were associated with Moonstar in Danbury that has excellent chinese food but that was an incorrect assumption on my part. I drive 35 minutes out of my way for this place. My son is a super picky eater, but absolutely loves the boneless spareribs, pork fried rice and roast pork egg rolls. Wo Ai Ni.... I love you Moon Star Chinese Kitchen This is the hidden gem of Brookfield... Tucked away off of Route 7 between the old Tractor Barn (133) and Elbow Hill Road (Silvermine Rd). The food is excellent. The staff is super and even the goldfish they have are friendly and will swim up to the glass to greet you if you lean down and say hello. I always always always order their Garlic Broccoli with Brown Rice... It is delicious and the brown rice is nutty and always steamed to perfection. Seriously, the brown rice is not to be missed! I've had and friends have ordered almost everything on the menu and everything is tasty and light. No heavy horrible feeling later. They have cold soda of course and a few small tables. If you are an old school local and you're still mourning the loss of Pagoda Kitchen, I can honestly say that Moon Star is it's reincarnation only better. I've slowly come to know the owners here and they are so sweet. They even remember me when I call in my order. BONUS FACT: They give you little sugar coated fried dough balls with your order along with your fortune cookies. I'm excited to know that when I come here I'm getting something very good to eat I think I may have found one other restaurant that was as good and that was years back in NYC !! this place is out-of-the-way for me but I have to come here because I know my money is getting its buck worth! The food is right taste fresh and the crab Rangoon comes with the red sauce not priced separately, they're thick lots of the Rangoon inside probably could use some more crab meat but you don't see them anywhere this size and also fresh!! Along the northern section of Federal Road in Brookfield is Moon Star Chinese. Because of the completed Route 7 connector a few years back, I would not normally pass it on drives in the area. And others may miss it for the same reason. Recently, I made a small detour to give them a whirl, after looking at the reviews on Yelp. Walking in to the place, I was a bit suspect, since the store is beat up looking and not visually attractive. I was greeted by a friendly employee, whom promptly took my lunch order. The food was good and did not take to long to come out. Shrimp was a good size, cooked well, nice flavor to the garlic sauce. The vegetables were also of a good quality, pretty tasty. And a nice egg roll to boot !! But in summary, this is above average Chinese take-out. Not amazing Chinese take-out. My usual meal is the sesame chicken dinner special, which is a sizable meal (Fried rice, egg roll, and plenty of sesame chicken with broccoli) for around $8, and I am always satisfied. And since I have had them freshly made many times I guessing these are not. They were cooked well. Not oily in any way. The scallion and cream cheese filling was very good. Little chinks of white pork and scallions in it. It's all fried rice needs to be and more. Cooked perfectly. No clumps at all. So far I have liked everything I've tried besides the soups, Again I think a little less cornstarch is all that would be need to make the soups go from a 1 start to a 4. I hesitate mentioning this to a place I'm new at. Don't want them to get pissed old round eye thinks he knows Chinese soups better than the Chinese chef. The food is pretty good, but not the best Chinese I've ever had. They have a coupon on the menu for two free egg rolls if you spend $25. When we called we asked if that was still acceptable and were told yes. We ordered enough for lunch the next day thinking we would have extra egg rolls. Upon arriving home we noticed we were missing egg rolls. My husband called and was told he got egg rolls with the combos. He explained we ordered extra to receive extra egg rolls and were told the coupon was ok and did not have an expiration date when we called. Oh! Turns out they don't accept their own coupons from their own menu and whoever answered the phone was wrong.
