Ordered 2 pizzas for delivery, Buffalo Chicken and Hawaiian. The Buffalo Chicken pizza had dried sauce, fried chicken pieces and burnt cheese. It felt like eating a dried piece of bread with dried hot sauce on top. It was truly atrocious. The Hawaiian didn't fare better. This pizza had all pineapple pieces in the middle and there wasn't enough sauce on the bread. The crust was so hard and dry the next day, my son broke his tooth (baby teeth, thank god!). Kozeta's is back open after the devastating fire shut them down a while back! The remodeled dining area is setup even better than before. There is still plenty of on-site parking. The staff is just as friendly and inviting as they ever were and the food is full of flavor! My pastrami sandwich had a generous amount of melted provolone on top and you could tell it was made on a fresh sub roll. When you bit into the delicious bread it had the perfect balance of soft on the inside but toasted on the outside. Sometimes when you get toasted sandwiches they crumble or fall apart while you are eating them because the bread wasn't completely fresh to begin with and they are over-toasted. Not here! My daughters got a pepperoni and hamburg calzone. Again, nothing but yummy. I do have one critique though. The calzone didn't have any height to it. It wasn't filled like you'd normally expect one to be. It was more like a stuffed pizza and not as big as a traditional calzone. My 10 year old was able to eat the whole thing within minutes because it was the size of 3 slices of a 10 inch pizza. read more

This past Tuesday, out of curiosity, I decided to try out Kozeta's Restaurant on Route 302 in Westbrook. I knew nothing about their fare and with an open mind hoped the restaurant might be a "hidden gem". I had difficulty upon perusing the menu in finding anything to eat that seemed remotely enticing that was not high in calories or empty carbohydrates Eventually, I settle dupon their chicken stir fry as it's the only healthy meal on the menu besides the salads. When the meal arrived it's presentation was as bland as the food tasted. The dish was about as mediocre as I've ever had. A white plate sans any garnishment, little slivers of veggies, "institutional" chicken tenders and served on starchy brown rice. Turns out the server was the owner. If anyone should know to offer a diner water with their meal she should but that was not the case. It's not as if they were very busy mind you; there was one other diner in the restaurant. The meal arrives. I'm famished and dig in. The owner eventually comes over and asked how the meal is. I look at her and begin to speak uttering the word "Well" about to tell her my thoughts, which wouldn't have been overly praiseworthy. She interrupts me and says, "Just so-so?" I said, "Well to be honest the meal doesn't have a lot of taste". The owner at this point gets hostile. She says, "Well everyone who comes here loves my food...." I exclaim that "I'm not EVERYBODY". I imply that as the owner it might behoove her to listen to the opinions of others especially those people we are not overly impressed with the food". The owner's condescending attitude in response was off putting and argumentative, I made some constructive suggestions as to how I felt she could improve this dish yet my opinion seemed like the last thing she wanted to hear, I wish I could write a favorable review especially in view of the fact that I am a staunch supporter of local businesses. As a consumer honest reviews are important in making decisions on where to spend our hard earned money. Social media holds us all accountable and reviews on sites like Yelp, Urban Spoon and Four Square aid consumers by providing us all with useful information that guides our decisions when we are looking for new places to eat. Hence, I felt compelled to post this review even after reading that most people who have dined at Kozeta's in the past have had positive experiences. In closing my dining experience was unfavorable predominantly based upon the food and the way I was treated as a customer. In my opinion Kozeta's menu is unimaginative, the dish I had was unsavory (not to mention skimpy in terms of portion size) and the owner definitely has a chip on her shoulder. At the end of the day what matters is customer satisfaction, which is something I learned from reading "The E-Myth". It is not about what you sell but how you treat your customers that is of paramount importance. read more

I've been getting my haircut at Goodfellas in Westbrook for a few months now. This is when I noticed Kozeta's which is right next door. Decided to give it a try with them being Greek and me not having tried Greek food. We were immediately greeted with a smile by the owner who asked us if we were dining in or getting takeout. We went with the takeout route. They do offer a variety of breakfast items, although the breakfast pizza is what comes recommended by locals. We went for dinner so we ordered Jalapeño Poppers, Spanakopita, and a 10" All Meat (Sausage, Pepperoni, Ham, Hamburger, Bacon, Sausage, Meatball). While we were sitting waiting for our food I looked around and really enjoyed the vibrant colors they had throughout the restaurant. The poppers were probably microwaved but weren't bad at all. The Spanakopita was what hit the spot! Most places tend to buy it out of the box but you could taste the freshness of the dough and spinach. It had that homemade taste to it. The pizza was also very good! Crust was not too soft but not too crunchy ether. I can't comment on the service because we got takeout, but we will be returning to dine-in! The best thing about this place is that it's local to Westbrook and small authentic places like these are very rare in this town. read more

I love this small business and as a small business owner myself, I appreciate good , honest people offering a good product ( there are many here) with excellent service. When our family stepped in, the owner immediately greeted us with a smile and said to sit anywhere. We sat down at a booth ( 5 people). The owner came over and offered us a chair to be more comfortable. She was so accommodating and genuine. In another review there was criticism of the side room where there is a pool table and that the bar had an odd tiki bar theme. This is because the owner spends so much time in bringing out their best products : their foods in quality and freshness that they " overlook" on other aspects. This owner wants to please everyone who comes in including children so she offers a "playroom" for the children. There is nothing wrong with that. Having a bar and being able to offer a beer to patrons, nothing wrong with that either. Now their food: House pizza was fresh with quality ingredients . The crust was awesome light and crisp not soggy after all that toppings ( see picture). Cheese and steak : filled with meat and the bread was soft. The Cobb salad was good with chunks of chicken and feta cheese. It was missing tomatoes, cucumber and hard boiled eggs but was nevertheless a good salad. The chicken pesto fettuccini was good with chunks of tender chicken and pasta was cooked perfectly. Yes I had a bite of everything! Overall will come back for their pizza! Love that crust! read more

I have a lot of opinions about Kozeta's restaurant. First, the positives. They have consistently solid diner type food, similar to what you might get in a big shiny diner in the tri-state area (the kind that used to have mini juke boxes at the table and a rotating desert cabinet). You can usually get breakfast anytime of the day (except Friday) and they do offer some greek specialties like a chicken or lamb gyro and spanakopita triangles. Greek specialties that are almost impossible to get around here. They also have fairly reasonable prices and are never super crowded. Oh, and the people working there are usually very nice. On the other hand, their physical space is weird and doesn't have comfortable flow for customers choosing to eat in the restaurant itself. The booths are placed in 3 matching rows so you could be sitting on top of the people at the next table over. Each row ends with a half booth, half chair table that juts out into the middle of the restaurant where there are almost always a bunch of people waiting for takeout. These tables allow for NO privacy whatsoever, they are almost a group experience. There is a strange tiki-themed bar that might be one of the most uninviting bars I have ever seen in my life, AND in the back, there is a big, unused open space with a pool table and a flat screen TV. I have NEVER seen anyone in that space ever, which is very confusing and slightly creepy. Every time I have ever been to Kozeta's they seem rushed and overwhelmed, EVERY TIME. Granted, I often go on the weekend, but I though the whole point of running a restaurant is to encourage customers??? The woman who runs the place is SUPER nice but is always apologizing while 4-8 people stand around waiting for their take out orders. I have literally never been to Kozeta's when this was not the case. This past Friday night as the same scene played out again, I wondered if she ever gets tired of apologizing so much. I most sincerely hope that they figure this whole tangle out. Maybe hire more people? Figure out a better ordering system? I have no idea, but right now it's not good. By far one of the best places I've eaten at since moving from NYC to Maine. I got a house special 10" pizza that was so fresh and delicious. It had all veggies and meat on it with extra cheese but despite all those toppings it was not greasy or heavy. The crust melts in your mouth under the delectable sauce and nice and chewy at the edges. My mother in law and my daughter shared the whole nine yards consisting of every favorite breakfast item, the eggs were fluffy and flavorful, frenchtoast was cooked perfectly along with crispy melt in your mouth potatoes.everything was just phenomenal. Yeah, this place looks unimpressive from the outside but don't let that stop you from giving it a try. The homemade dishes are exceptional. I ordered the Whole Nine Yards. The over medium eggs were cooked perfectly. The sausage was crispy on the outside and deliciously flavorful. Home fries were homemade and the pancake was the perfect consistency and flavor. Breakfast is served all day. My wife ordered chicken quesadillas. The crispy tortillas are thickly stuffed with ingredients. The marinated chicken really stands out. She's a picky eater and was very, very happy with her choice. We didn't try the pizza but I heard that it is phenomenal. If you're in the Portland area, give this place a try! read more
