Bread Pudding

Great poboys and fried chicken here for lunch today! My report: https://blainerestaurantreport.wordpress.com/2026/04/11/kozs-harahan-la-report-997/

Shrimp with gumbo and banana pudding

We stopped in for lunch on a Thursday. Right away the owner embraced as family! This down home place is just what you would expect from Louisiana. We ordered shrimp with sides the most amazing gumbo and bread pudding, a kid's Red beans and sausage with sweet cornbread that rocked!, and a huge shrimp po-boy. The food was over the moon good and everyone was so friendly. Most of the folks there were regulars and we made friends so easily. We will be back.

The Chamber of Horrors is my absolute favorite sandwich ever! It's just a cold sandwich stacked with sliced meats and cheese and lettuce, tomato, etc. but it strikes a chord with me. Every time I go I tell myself to try something different but most times I wind up getting one. And a side of fries. I have tried other things and have never found anything to complain about. Koz's is a great example of the neighborhood restaurants that are scattered throughout New Orleans and the area. Place has been there forever. The family is running the business. He has passed away, but Koz himself was running the cash register every time I went there. Same crowd of regulars and locals is in there every day. A wide variety of menu items, daily specials, plate lunches, po-boys, fried seafood, and all that. Not all of it is good, but for the most part it is. Downsides - the place is old so it is a little dark and dingy. It gets crowded at times and then the service gets slow. The parking is scarce around but you can usually find a spot. Give them a shot. This is one place that I keep going back to. (If I want a Chamber of Horrors I do!)

Shrimp ettoufee with grilled catfish. Cabbage on the side & a shrimp poboy

It's a very homey-type mom & pop place. Mr. Koz himself was at the register checking people out. Very friendly guy. It was busy for a Friday evening but the wait wasn't long for hot food. The food was an 8.5/10 minus the sweet cabbage. I didn't really eat that. The ettoufee was standard & good. Rice was nicely cooked & grilled catfish was a hit. The shrimp poboy with the seasoned fries was a solid 9/10. Very enjoyable! Very nice experience

You have to stand in line to pick up your to-go order. Should be separated. Food is good, but not great.

The red beans and rice are a must, the fried chicken was perfectly crispy and seasoned, and the gumbo had just the right amount of kick. It was spaghetti with cheese. I don't know why places call "spaghetti" ... macaroni - it's two different things. Anyways.. Hubby said it wasn't what he was expecting m, but it was just "ok". The chicken-he even chewed up the bones for the last taste he could get. He loved them!! He said he should have just got a plate of wings. The potato salad ' green sweet peas, we were not allowed to change from their daily special.. . Oh well - wasted food. He did taste them and absolutely nothing special about them. Now that cornbread muffin! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! We did take a u-turn, to go back for another one. Those little suckers melt in your mouth-my goodness. . Overall it was a solid 4.5 experience. I will say the food came out quick and tasty. However, there were no meat substitutions for non…read morepork eaters. (Turkey or chicken sausage would be nice). The main reason I will not recommend this location is their false advertising of prices. Their onlinemenu and their HANDWRITTEN menu have different prices than what they charge. In my case I ordered 2 kids waffle wt berries (it does not say add berries for additional costs) for $6 however it was rung up at $9 and my blue line breakfast on their online site and board shows as $11 but they rung it up at $12, mind you I did not have any of their protein as I couldn't have it. Even their kids only price is $7. Here's the thing, I don't mind prices being raised bc we all know our economy is poop. However, don't have one price and charge me another cause I feel lied to, and when asked I was just told oh yeah the prices have changed. Well why not disclose that AT THE COUNTER. To add insult their "fresh OJ" is $7 for a small cup. (Half of a plastic cup) and it taste like they used the full orange without peeling in a juice processor - godly awful and sinful haha. It's a big no for me to go back. My first experience did not leave me wanting to go back. If you go I hope your experience is different.

I was hoping this would be an awesome breakfast. I've been wanting to give them a try for so long,…read moreso today was the day. I ordered the berries waffle with a side of scrambled eggs and grits. The waffle was very good, light, fluffy, soft on the inside slight crisp on the outside. This was probably the best part of my meal. The eggs were just ok, taste like a little to much milk was added. My grits didn't come out with my food, so I had to wait a few minutes for them and boy was I excited. I love grits with my breakfast. So you can imagine my disappointment when I tasted the grits and all I could taste was milk and s. I love stone ground grits, so I was expecting them to so satisfying. They weren't. UGH, they had way to much dairy and tasted sweet. I'm not sure if they put sugar in them or not, but sweet grits are a No No. yikes! I couldn't eat more than two bites.
