Great food. Friendly staff. Been going for years and the quality remains good. Looking forward to returning with family.

Crawfish cheese fries

We got the crawfish cheese fries... amazing! Roast beef po boy was delicious as well. I didn't get a picture of that, I ate it too fast.

Excuse my accent because I'm from ny! I visited for a short time and wanted some authentic NOLA food. Someone told me come here, it's not far from the airport hotels. I wasn't blown away from the food. I actually added salt to the gumbo. It does have an authentic New Orleans vibe. The onion rings were delicious and the service was great. The waiter was very helpful to us visitors. It's nothing fancy, just a food spot you can dine in at. It's worth trying.

Delicious gumbo , prepared just what you would expect in Louisiana country Sweet service, large dining area Wednesday meatballs and shrimp n fish

Everything good! Can't go wrong with the Shrimp poboy! Onion rings are a must. Hot sausage poboy is a killa!

There are other places I would choose, simply because you don't have someone puffing in your face. It's either: drinks, bar, smoking - or food. You think you can have all four.

The biggest negative for me is that this is a smoking bar and while they do have a HUGE space that usually makes the smoking not such a problem that changes fast during the peak Friday nights when they offer their 2 for 1 burger special when it gets so smoky that I can't handle it. My visits during the weekday seemed quite pleasant but the crowded weekends just get far too smoky for me unfortunately. The burgers and ribeye steaks here are fairly priced and better than you get at many far fancier and way more expensive restaurants. I've eaten a LOT of steaks and enjoyed plenty of good steak nights around the New Orleans area but the ribeye here is by far one of the best I've had anywhere. The service at the bar and at the tables is quick, friendly and overall just a great experience. This is some of the best bar food I've had anywhere and just one of the best options for a great steak and burger at a great price anywhere. Now if they could just do something about the cancer sticks...

I'm glad I gave it another shot because this place was worth the return trip. The vibe immediately transports you to the Caribbean with colorful decor, island music, and a fun atmosphere. My foodie friend and I started with a couple of cocktails: the Caribbean Rum Punch and the Passion Fruit Piña Colada. Both were strong, refreshing, and definitely not shy on the rum. For appetizers, we ordered the Dominican Ribs, glazed with sweet chili, ginger, and soy. These disappeared fast and easily became one of my favorite bites of the night. I would come back just for the ribs alone! For entrées, we shared: Zydeco Redfish - Cajun grilled redfish topped with fried shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes, Creole reduction, and veggies. The red fish was cooked perfectly and was the standout dish for me. Island Ribeye - A 13oz ribeye marinated in pineapple ginger soy, served with whipped sweet potatoes and pistachios. Great flavor with a nice island twist. And of course, we had to get a side of fried plantains because you can never go wrong with plantains. Great food, strong drinks, and a fun atmosphere. I'll definitely be back to check out their happy hour soon. Tonylameats Approved

Salads are great and the portions on everything are generous. I eat here regularly, usually by myself, and always enjoy the family feel the staff gives the place. There's a decent sized parking lot here and the interior and outside grounds are very well kept. We chose to sit outside, plenty of seating with shade for most. Starting off with shrimp toast and heirloom tomatoes was a good start to our lunch experience. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my wife got the fresh pasta. We were blown away by both dishes. Juicy chicken with peppers on ciabatta bread and fries to write home about. The pasta was in pesto that seemed freshly made and the grilled chicken thighs we added was fantastic. Thoroughly impressed with the food here but only second to our waiter as far as the total experience. It was a bearded young gentleman, I didn't catch his name but he took care of us and was very attentive. Completely impressed with this establishment and I'd recommend any and all to check this place out.

Thinking it couldn't be the one I used to go to 30 years ago I looked them up and sure enough they are carrying on the tradition of the original crazy Johnnie's. So happy. Stopped in on the second day here. Glad I did. Went around lunchtime and the parking lot was pretty full but I found a spot up front. Sat at the bar since I was eating alone. I was greeted by just about everyone I saw. Quick look at the menu and I ordered the bbq shrimp and of course the steak sandwich. One knock I will give them is I ordered tea and they were out. So I ordered lemonade. There were out. Settled for a Barq's. That ain't really settling but I didn't want soda. And water wasn't gonna cut it. So on to the bbq shrimp. Huge prawns. About 6 of them. Easy to peel. They come with French bread to dip. Very tasty. The sauce leaned more into a bbq sauce flavor which I usually don't like but I absolutely didn't mind. These were on point. Then the steak sandwich. I remember back in the day the meat was cubed but the way they cut it is fine. And they still had the steak sauce they used back then. So good. If I had remembered I would have done without the sauce that comes on it so I could just have the steak sauce but it was fine. So good. Worth the visit. I'll definitely be stopping in every time I return and living that nostalgia. They are hitting the mark with this revival.

We met a good friend of ours here for lunch. His wife and US, would regularly go n out to eat with each other. It was a normal routine. His wife passed away suddenly about 8 months ago and he hasnt gone anywhere that whole time. She was my best friend. It was a pleasant surprise, when he agreed to have lunch with us. We decided to go to Zea's on W. ESPLANADE. It was obvious they were busy as most of the lot was full. The first thing we noticed was the new interior renovations. It was definitely brighter and open since the last time we were here. We finally got sat at a table, wasnt a long wait. Our server, (young lady named Taylor) was our server. She was very friendly, inviting personality and made you feel welcomed. We started off with drinks and the Hummus appetizer. Never seen a big appetizer like this, it was perfect for 3 even 4 ppl and very good. It was served with warm pita slices. I remember they served cucumber slices upon request, not sure if they still do that. The lunch entrees were Almond chicken salad for my wife. Our friend ordered the Thai rib plate and I had the Crispy duck. As far as I know, my food was excellent, the duck was well cooked and moist. The Thai ribs are usually always good, no doubt that has changed, I stole one of my friends ribs. It went to good use. My wife said the main salad was good, but she feels the chicken itself lacked flavor, but since this is my review, only my opinion matters, lol. The Thai ribs were very good. I love the corn grits and the zea potatoes. For me, I feel this was my best meal I've had all year so far. Would I come back? Heck yeah. You buying? I overall, love the change. The new menu and decor is a hit for me.

However, the food was sub par for the price. The hummus and pita Appetizer was delicious and we all thoroughly enjoyed. We had the Honey Island Chicken which was good but not $17 good. It came with basic, undercooked and unsalted fries. The daughter had the Philly Steak Panini which didn't look appealing and she said it was overly full of mayo which is mixed in with the meat. Our granddaughter had the Balsamic Salmon which looked so pretty and was delicious but it was almost $30 and came with 2 basic sides. The hamburgers were cooked well but still only came with a basic side and the fries were awful. The atmosphere was okay but a bit dark. Thankful we had the gift certificate because we all decided this was a one and done!
