KQ Ranch Julian is a DANGEROUS campground...DO NOT STAY THERE OR CONSIDER PURCHASING URGENT PLEASE READ..... ATTACK DOGS LIVE AT THAT PROPERTY!!!! Our 4 month old puppy was attacked and mauled by a Pit-bull and a Rottweiler in front of my family and 8 year old daughter. It happened the first 15 minutes after check in. It was traumatic for our entire family. The fear of those killing dogs running loose was too much for us, so we had to check out. Our daughter was so terrified and traumatized she refused to leave the motor home in fear they would return. I can still hear the sound of my dog screaming and those dogs mauling our 4 month old German Shephard. ( the dog we hoped would be protection as she got older) These dogs had obviously tasted blood before, one pulling the front legs and the other pulling the back legs with slober everywhere. We will never stay at that campground again... I'm not sure what is really going on at that campground but it's more like something out of a sketchy " Breaking Bad" episode than a family campground. After the attack things got stranger and stranger. The other campers would hide their faces and try not to look at our campsite. They were afraid to help us.. I've never seen a fellow camper act that way. They all knew something we didn't. It was winter so maybe management could fill the campground with family and friends, maybe some business was happening... But it was obvious something other than families camping was going on. It was not random campers as guests. It seemed like the guests all lived there and knew each other. The guests and the staff tried to conceal this owner. It is very possible that these dogs belonged to the Manager himself. (M - - - -named removed) KQ Ranch Management (name removed)said he was friends with the dogs owners. He said that he knew them personally but refused to tell us which campsite the owners were in. Marty refused to give us the names of the members that were responsible ( per rule handbook) and even helped them hide until we checked out the next Morning. Marty the Manager (The employees refused to give us his entire name) did nothing but follow our every move in a golf cart. He did nothing to address the safety concern on his property. He was more anxious to get us to leave without calling authorities. It was very bazaar. Something is not right at KQ. Now I understand why other reviews on yelp have called KQ a Cult Ranch We spent thousands of Dollars to buy that camp program that was never legally transferred to us. They took our money. They never transferred the property to us. We lost 7 thousand dollars for our membership.... Our dog spent the night having surgery at the vet, and our Daughter never wanted to go camping there again. Please think about your families safety... If you already own at KQ ranch I'm sorry. There is something fishy going on there, but for your children's sake do not let them out of your site and carry a heavy stick or a bat. Those attack dogs probably live at KQ!!! Animal Control could not respond because KQ is Private Property and a person was not attacked this time. Corporate headquarters in Arizona did nothing to help... they offered no explanation as to this bazaar behavior and would not give us the name of the dog owner...If they had tried to solve our concerns and took our safety warnings serously we would not feel like we need to warn people. They only thing we can do to protect people is to post this story on the internet in hopes of saving someone the pain and heart ache that these people have put us through. I have been camping at KQ with my family since 1996. Ever since Vicky became the manager the place has become terrible. Vicky is extremely rude, lazy, and unprofessional. She does not know the meaning of customer service. No upgrades have been made since she took over and everything looks old and worn. The children's activities are almost non-existent now and the Kids Club is closed most days, even during summer! Recently, the county ordered their doors between their swimming pool and restrooms to be locked because they do not function properly. This has not been repaired. Nor have 2 of the sinks in the women's restroom. I do not know why upper management has not figured out that Vicky is the problem. I cannot imagine why Colorado Adventures thinks Vicky is management material. She fired all of the previous staff (the nice employees) and replaced them with absolute jerks who are just like her and treat people very badly. If you are reading this review, don't bother wasting your money at this location. The salespeople like to make big promises to lock in members and then treat them badly. Every few years they also try to convince their elderly members to "upgrade" their memberships again and again. That really means they re-charge elderly members thousands of dollars all over again, making promises they don't keep under the guise of saying they can leave the membership to their children. Then they turn right around and treat the elderly person's adult children members worse than dirt. This disrespect for families who have paid annual memberships to KQ Ranch for decades is absolutely despicable. Vicky also enjoys making up rules and banning members and canceling their future reservations. Vicky literally looks for reasons to make members miserable. Perhaps Colorado Adventures wants a manger who will treat people poorly? It seems as if their goal is not multi-generation family membership, but a constant revolving door of new customers who will pay tens of thousands of dollars to join, be treated poorly and quit, just so they can dupe some new person into their cycle. KQ Ranch is good-clean spa and hot, pool, next to Pacific Crest Trail. They take you to your spot if your parking a trailer,RV. No storage for your Rig-full- 190 on waiting list. I store my trailer 7.4 miles away at the Julian Mini Storage-(3582 Hwy. 78) You have to turn on Newman and go 1/8 mile and turn left into storage yard. Saves fuel and Fred is the one to contact for Trailer storage information:760-765-2601. Good rodent control at the Mini Storage. I don't know about KQ Ranch. If you winter camp carry chains. The last 3-4 miles requires chains. I have not had to use chains. The store is nice and has some RV equipment-good propane etc. Register for the wolf exhibit only $4.00 if member or $7.00 non-member of KQ Ranch. Sunday is the only day to go for that price with KQ. Ranch. The gate crew are very nice. The one that takes you to your site (if you have a Trailer/Rig) is great. If you rent a cabin it is well equipped-Joey was a great help-You turn the fireplace on from the left,top back switch. The TV/VCR use input on remote. and call if it won't work for you. Joey was there in minutes to set it up ... The dishes,pans,fireplace,loft good for 6 people. Bring airbeds for a large group. Rent #110 if you have a dog. It is fenced. One bedroom and a loft... central heat and A/C. If you don't have a sewage site-note map in color- they will come and empty your rig where it stands. The Clubhouse has tea and coffee,large TV, Pool Table and a great cook and staff. They offer meals on certain days. The meals are usually eggs,meat so I can't partake but do bring my cooked Veggie Burger to switch into the Hamburger. The dog loves the burger and all is good. The fish fry is really good,pie at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Menu changes... Expect people to come in on Friday night-wear earplugs if noise is a problem. KQ Ranch is at the top of my list. read more

0 stars!!! DO NOT ACCEPT A FREE WEEKEND AND TOUR!!! My parents made that mistake. They are members at Mountain Lakes and go many times a year since it's close to home. But my dad wanted to try going a new place, so they booked the weekend tour at KQ. When they arrived, they were under-welmed with the gate staff and escort. They get to their site...2 star quality. They keep a positive attitude, but found themselves rather bored. It just wasn't the right fit for them. They go to their tour meeting Sunday morning where they were asked by Mike what they thought. My dad answers with, "If you want the truth, we really weren't impressed." Mike proceeded to tell them that they "are not welcome and have 30 minutes to leave the property or they will be escorted by security." It is clear that KQ has a reputation of poor customer service by reading these other reviews...but I'm angry and offended that they would treat people like this for simply not wanting to buy a membership. Clearly, based on other reviews, they treat members well, but it is a wonder how they ever get members to begin with. My guess is that happy members haven't seen true 5 star resorts. Either way, if you go on a tour weekend, I hope you plan to buy. If not, I hope you check your feelings at the door because they are rude bullies! read more

I was baited and fooled to show up there. It took over 2 hours and so I was late (Thank God). The place looks like a horror movie setup where you go in and dont return from. The gate keeper looks like one of those characters from the cannibal movie. She called the manager and she was not any better. Rude. They were exteremly rude. Since I was late they turned me right around and did not offer to reschedule me or accomoadate whatsover. I think God was protecting us. There was 5 persons in my party (my wife and I with our 3 small children). THe park looked creepy and nothing there seemed nice. Play grounds looked old and unattended. I will never...NEVER return to that creepy place. My wife also got the impression we were enacting a horror movie. A place where you go in and dont come back. Once there, we could not talk to anyone who approached us on the phone and willing to give us everything for free. Not true (we got nothing but a waste of tie and effort) as other reviews indicate that you have to mail in to get refunded. We lost a day and 50 gallons of fuel and I think it could have been much worst. We know one thing that we will never return to the KQ Ranch in Julian. read more

This is in reference to the 10/24 incident in the resort . I agree that it was not handled properly . The manager was on a weeks vacation at that time so the assistant manger was responsible at that time. There is no doubt in my mind that the matter will be handled properly. As far the atmosphere around here it has increased instead of decline since the new manager took over. Any body that has been here under both would agree with me. The new manager goes beyond the call of duty by being on call 24/7 . No body is perfect but the new manager is close. The entire staff goes out of their way to keep the members happy. This is one of the best and we have stayed in many. That is very untrue that CRA doesn't care about I t's members I don't understand how you can't see the improvements made by new management . We are very lucky to have the manager we have at this resort. read more

First time at this campground it will definitely be my last. I don't like the fact that they have staff park next to campers. I don't want to meet a worker I wanna meet a fellow RVer. And I called left a message for the Manager , due to one of the workers who's in space 140 LITERALLY BEAT a little small dog. The dog got out. He started using the F word when he got the dog he literally beat the dog with the belt. I'm going to call corporate because nobody seems to care. My granddaughter had to see that disgusting vile human hit a dog with a belt. I've left a message I have not had one person respond. I will call animal control and that dog will be removed. It's just too bad the wrong animal's gonna be removed. STAY FAR away it's almost like a cult up there read more

We were fortunate to receive an invitation to visit K.Q. Ranch, with the only requirement being attendance at a two-hour presentation. The resort itself is peaceful, scenic, and very well maintained. Our sales representative, John, was personable, engaging, and entertaining--he did a great job presenting the membership program. While we ultimately decided not to purchase a membership, we truly enjoyed our experience at K.Q. Ranch. We would love the option to join specifically for this location, rather than through Colorado River Adventures as a whole. Overall, this is a beautiful campground located conveniently close to the historic town of Julian. We are very grateful for the opportunity to experience all that K.Q. Ranch has to offer. read more

We just read another review talking about the staff there looking like thugs. And it got us thinking, they claim to do background checks on all of their members yet they freely gave us a 24 day pass and never did a background check. They also state that that you could bring anybody you would like with you when you come up. Do they do background checks on them as well? There whole point is "they don't allow pedophiles in there campground" giving you a false sense of security to bring your children. That's not to say there is not pedophiles in any campground you go to, but the fact that they advertise it as being a kid safe place and that you don't have to watch them because they do background checks should be criminal. read more

(not yelling, just poor eyesight) we have been members of cra for many years, and we love k q ranch. we are "oldsters" and don't mind the busy week-ends and all the children. this is a great camping resort for families. there is always something for everyone. we can always find a quiet out of the way place for us. almost all the employees and the manager are great. everyone is friendly and welcoming. occasionally you get some high winds, just don't go off to town & leave your awning up. lol. (we lost one earlier this year in 100 mph winds.) if anyone has a bad time here, i can only believe they would have had a bad time anywhere. i tell everyone, "you get out what you put in." read more

Have been camping for quite a few years now and have decided to write about our favorite campground. When we first started camping here it was still going through growing pains and there were some of those necessary problems that go with it. But over the years KQ has become a great place to go, We have great times and the grounds are well maintained the spaces are nice lots of shade, great clubhouse and pool area there are bathrooms and laundry room located in a central location. The staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The Manager is one of the best we have met and she does know how to run the Ranch for the enjoyment of all. read more

I am a retiree and have been a member of Colorado River Adventures for over a year. I have stayed at most of CRA's Resorts and KQ Ranch multiple times. Joining CRA is one of the best things I've ever done. The resorts are beautiful and the people go out of their way to make you feel like you are part of their family. Every time I go to KQ Ranch I stay for two weeks at a time. I love the mountains and the small town of Julian near by. KQ Ranch offers activities for the entire family and is a wonderful place in the mountains to retreat to from the hectic routine of city life. read more

I have been enjoying many stays at KQ since 2001 and it is a favorite family spot. We recently upgraded our membership and are very happy we did. We just spent a beautiful October weekend in one of the comfortable cottages. The staff is helpful and friendly and the bbq is great. I look forward to many more trips where I will appreciate the relaxation and the great maintainance and improvements I continue to see over the years. CAMPERS BEWARE! There is something very not right about that place. I get the feeling if something happened to you, you would never be seen or heard from again. This place feels more like a cult than a campground. A lot of the " guests" live there full time. Complete with there old RVs and dogs. I wouldn't let my daughter go exploring that's for sure. Read a few of the reviews and was really surprised that this place was rated so low. My wife and I just love it mostly, because it is so much out in the country and so quite and peaceful. So much to do including a pool and Saturday evening barbecues, our favorites. All of the KQ Ranch personal are so friendly and helpful. If there was one negative it would be that the limited internet coverage but truthfully, we don't go out in the country for the internet. read more

I have been a member for a few years and my wife and Doberman just love the Ranch. I don't understand the negative posts, I guess that some people can't understand that this is nature and the area operates with nature. All of the people are just wonderful, the store is very nice and the food is great. I am so glad that I became a member and I was never pressured to become one. Our family started going to KQ Ranch 1 year and a half ago and we love it!!! We did go to another of their spots but it really can't compared to the KQ Ranch. So we only go there.
