It was obvious that she would require a couple stitches. We are uninsured and were encouraged to take her to CHC because of their "sliding scale" fee schedule. We were in the exam room, for less than five minutes, when Dr. Cury entered. He smiled and asked what happened. We explained how she injured herself. He nodded and then leaned over to look at her wound. Without skipping a beat, and with all the "doctor authority" he could muster, he nodded and said, "yes, it looks like we'll have to remove the head". We all broke into laughter. Our daughter was immediately put at ease. The levity of the situation was alleviated with his bedside manner/humor. He was very careful to ask our daughter how she was doing during the whole procedure. When he gave her the shot to numb her, she didn't even feel it. In total, she received three stitches and a prescription for antibiotics. All the time she was being treated, Dr. Cury was professional and friendly....sprinkling just enough humor to keep everyone lighthearted. We are relatively new to the Central Coast. This was our first doctor visit since moving here a year ago. If I ever need a doctor again, I will first seek out Dr. Cury.

Dr. Chen spent 15 min with me and didn't even address any of my concerns. I mentioned I was having gut and stomach pain on a regular daily basis. She asked if I had been diagnosed with IBS. I said no. Rather than giving me steps to take to figure out what the problem is or how I could be diagnosed she just told me to avoid dairy. She did not ask and therefore did not learn that no matter what I eat afterward my stomach is always upset even if I avoid dairy. I mentioned I would like to see a gastroenterologist. I was told since I was not 45 years old a colonoscopy wasn't necessary which I assume just means it's not gonna be covered by insurance so she's not going to recommend it. I told her my pain had been going on for six years and yet no tests recommended to figure out the issue. Also, I mentioned I wanted to get off of a medication and wanted the liquid form because my research had said it's best to taper off very slowly. She just said "it doesn't work like that" and shrugged off that concern as well rather than giving me what I wanted and asked for... the whole reason I made the appointment was only to get my medication switched to liquid, which wasn't even achieved. So now I'm waiting for my expensive bill for receiving nothing. Not happy at all. I left my appointment very angry frankly. I don't want to come across as rude, but doctors need to do better. It just angers me that I am trying my best to take care of my own health and not receiving any help and despite knowing what I'm feeling every day somehow a Doctor Who has spent 30 minutes with me in total over the past year, think she knows what's best for me, which is to do nothing. Why are doctors telling us what we can and can't do for our own health if we have the money to pay for it. Blows my mind. Again, I hate to be so negative, but I feel I need to speak up for so many people who feel their concerns are ignored and unimportant. I wrote this not only to get out my own feelings, but to hopefully help others avoid the same experience I had.

We walked out at 3:15 with no diagnosis for one and the wrong diagnosis for the other. A prescription for my daughter for zofran and a prescription for prednisone for my son. Strep swab and mano blood tests both negative but the physician would not listen to the nurse who tried very hard to convince her that my son did in fact have something going on. He had Black Stone like blisters on his tonsils and was so swollen we couldn't understand him when he spoke. He was very sick and in excruciating pain. The nurse tried as hard as he could to shine the camera light into my sons throat so the dr could really see. She couldn't and since she obviously didn't trust the nurses ability...he was diagnosed with Mano (he's already had it and tested negative in this office visit) and sent on his way. My 28 years as a mother and maternal instincts kicked in and I made the decision to take him into another physicians office and they had the sense to start my son on Keflex. That's right. I paid to see another dr. So I basically donated 4 hrs and $135.00 to your ridiculous little experiment. How can you improve: 1. Please either invest in a Mac Book or a Dell 2 in 1 tablet/laptop or a tablet that syncs with the laptop that's being used. It took forever to put all info first into an iPad then again into the Dell laptop. This is basic and silly on your part not to come up with something more time efficient. 2. Make sure each sub station/clinic is equipped with all necessary tests and medication. At one point the dr asked the nurse to give my son a shot of steroids to get the process moving. He replied twice by telling her that he didn't have any steroids. a) we were adjacent to a pharmacy. Why didn't she simply call the order into the pharmacist and get my son the care he needed? Seemed unorganized and didn't seem as if anybody was trying or caring enough to solve the issue of the missing meds that should've been available. 3. Waiting on a dr should not take 45 min. The nurse tried calling and calling and calling. It was silly and felt more like a bad luck sitcom than a medical appt. 4. Make a follow up call to your patients. Especially when my son was clearly very ill and you sent him away on a wish and a prayer. Thank you for listening and I hope that my suggestions aren't ignored as I wouldn't wish our experience on anybody.

My review is for the ugent care office only…read more I suggest you double-check any necessary paperwork for insurance coverage with the clerks. The secretary that helped me turned me away, telling me that my insurance did not cover urgent care at CHC and that I needed to go to the emergency room. After trying to explain that she was wrong, she started to get short tempered with me and suggested that the only way I could get treated was if I agreed to pay for the visit entirely out of pocket. Thus, I left to sort out the mess. As soon as I drove away, the same girl called me and apologized. She admitted that she had entered my information into the system incorrectly and that I was indeed eligible. I appreciated her candor to admit to her mistake. However, the initial exchange still left a sour taste because I had encountered unwarranted rudeness from her in the first place. My wait time was approximately an hour. I was seen by a nurse practitioner, not an M.D. Since I had a simple case of a flu/cold, I was satisfied with the service. However, if it had been something more serious, I would have wanted to be seen by a physician.

As my husband and I were staying at a campsite in Pismo Beach, I had him ask their office for a referral to an emergency facility. Simultaneously, I researched a facility on my smart phone. Both sources led me to your medical center. I called ahead and was given directions, and informed that the wait time was about 45 minutes. I had every reason to believe that I would be treated in a timely manner, considering the bleeding and gory nature of the injury (your office staff even provided me with a waterproof pad to protect your carpeting). After 2-1/2 hours of waiting (from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM) and observing patients, presumably with routine appointments, come and go, my husband inquired at the front desk as to how much longer we can expect to wait before I'll be seen. He was told that it would probably be another 2-1/2 hours! I was appalled, especially when I was told by one of your staff that "...this is an urgent care!" I guess I misunderstood the definition of "urgent." We walked out, and proceeded to go to the Arroyo Grande Hospital emergency room, where we had been advised to go by a patient in your waiting room. I was fortunate to have received wonderful medical treatment almost immediately. I cannot overemphasize my dismay at the way I was ignored in your office. I don't believe you have any right to represent yourself as an urgent care facility. My only regret is that we wasted 2-1/2 precious hours of our vacation in your waiting room.

The front desk staff at this office has historically been the rudest, most insensitive group of people that I've ever met. Recently I visited the MedPlus office with a 102 degree fever, racking cough, chills, sore throat, trouble breathing...the whole nine yards. The gal at the front desk told it would be "several hours" before anyone might be able to see me. Since I live about two blocks away, I asked if it would be possible for me to go home and they could give me a phone call when a Dr. was available, that way i wouldn't be sitting in the waiting room, coughing, feeling aweful, and infecting everybody else The girl at the desk, I didn't get her name, was totally uncaring, and refused to even listen to my request. "You have to wait here if you want to get in. You could come back every 45 minutes of so to check you spot in line". I had a few words with her, something along the lines of "I'm a patient, as well as a customer, and I feel so bad i can barely stand up, would it really be that hard to give me a quick 30 second phone call?" It was obvious from the look on her face and the tone of her voice that she really didn't care about me, or anyone else in the waiting room. "That's not what we do, but you're welcome to find another doctor's office if you don't like our service" was her reply....enough said. Dr. Newman, I've been seeing you, and visiting your office for several years. Now you've lost a patient, as well as a customer. I know you probably don't care. However, in the bigger picture, you should. The way you let your office be ran, and the disrespect you and your staff have shown to me and other patients is beyond belief.
