Best place in Youngstown to get a Reuben sandwich also have a good soup great service and good breakfasts

I've been here several times. I've had the lamb on weck, and the XL Reuben, and they were both good. Then I had the "Tom and Jeff." That was really good. It's a kicked-up Reuben - grilled corned beef, grilled sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on a toasted everything bagel. 1000 Island dressing on the side to top it off. Sandwiches come with a pickle wedge, and a choice of potato chips or coleslaw. I also recommend adding a bowl of Italian Wedding soup, as it's good as well. They also have a deli counter, and fresh baked bagels and pastries and cookies. read more

Gotta love Kravitz for their famous corned beef! Several varieties of these sandwiches, too! Their salads are just as wonderful! Great assortment of bagels and various baked goods to please your sweet tooth! Also noteworthy is their Bloody Mary! Their fish dinners are also yummy! Friends. I can't even begin to describe how fantastic this place is. We're only in town today, and from the reviews I read I figured, why not? Number one? Everyone is so friendly. Number 2, they have a full bar, which might not matter to you, but it matters to me, lol. And finally, the food. My gawd. The food is fantastic. I had the mushroom soup and an Italian. My friend had the pastrami and the wedding soup. It's a miracle I didn't lick the bowl. Such a gem. A true hidden fine in Ohio for a jewish delicatessen with delicious pastrami and reubens. I was blown away at how good it was. I haven't been able to find a good delicatessen even in Northern California. Trust me, I've looked. If you are in the market for a large soft cookie and a reuben look no further than Kravitz. Unquestionably the best bagels within 1'45" of Pittsburgh (2 hours gets you to Cleveland, and I haven't sampled much there). They're good bagels---but they're not great bagels. Good yeasty flavor, but too puffy in texture. Sweets are excellent, particularly kichel and kipfel. Both have an excellent dough flavor and texture, yet aren't too sweet. I'd detour off the Turnpike for them. I'm not an expert on corned beef but my mother said it's really good, and she would know better than I would. How the closest good Jewish bakery to Pittsburgh is an hour away in a city that's less historically Jewish is an utter mystery to me, but this place exists, and it's worth the stop. read more

Overpriced. . used to be ok back in the day but charging $5 for a teeny tiny bowl of chicken noodle soup with NO chicken. basically broth and noodles. the server said people were complaining there was to much chicken so they took it out. ummm oooook. then this morning i was charged $250 for some cheap ass watered down.. to hot coffee. I don't mind paying those prices at Starbucks but come on people are. I get inflation and all that but the quality has gone way down hill and the prices have gone up. no thank you read more

Since the new owner took over, the place has been steadily going down hill. All or most of the original staff are gone, the food has been extra greasy and they ditched all day breakfast on Saturdays which was the only time I could get corned beef hash or a pastrami breakfast bagel (the latter had been moved to all day every day under the Kravitz family). Jack used to go out of his way to make customers happy. He had them pan fry corned beef hash once when the grill had already been shut down and customizing orders (like having lamb on a cheesesteak instead of beef) was never an issue. Service is the hallmark of a great restaurant and I think my days at Kravitz are now over. I used to go so often they called out my name like Norm on the old TV show Cheers. All those staff are gone and so is the Kravitz I'll fondly remember. read more

"Corned Beef". - Jack Kravitz Having experienced some great deli food in NYC, Chicago and Philly, it all pales in comparison to Kravitz. The place should be mecca for all Jewish deli enthusiasts. With 70+ years of expertise in top-shelf corned beef cooked in-house, freshly baked bagels and kimmelwick rolls.. I couldn't be luckier to live within a 4 minute drive. Where to start.. let's just go with an item-by-item run through of my favorites: Lamb on Weck - Hot sliced, grilled lamb on a fresh kimmelwick bun.. add some cheddar and a side of creamy horseradish and you've got the best deli sandwich I've ever put in my mouth. It's good with their rare roast beef as well.. but the lamb (cooked in-house) is off the charts. Northside/Grilled Reuben - Corned beef is their thing, and a traditional grilled reuben is the best expression of corned beef excellence. The Northside swaps out kraut for coleslaw. Delicious. Corned Beef Hash - A huge portion of fried potatoes, peppers, and onions with generous bites of their glorious corned beef throughout. With a fried egg on top and an everything bagel with cream cheese on the side.. you couldn't ask for a better breakfast. Throw your leftovers (you're sure to have leftovers) in a skillet with some olive oil the next morning for a repeat dose of pure comfort food. The Hannah K - My wife swears by this sandwich - hummus with Israeli salad on a grilled pita - usually with some feta added on. For those that don't have a ravenous craving for meat, it's a winner. Classic Breakfast Bagel - Another simple, well-made sandwich: fried pastrami, egg and cheese. Used to be my stand-by for brunch along with a potato latke w/ sour cream and applesauce. I still come back to it from time to time. Pierogies & Halushki - Only served on Fridays - their halushki is excellent.. and why not throw in some pierogies for just a few bucks more? African Peanut Soup - I'm really not 100% on what all is in the African peanut soup.. there's rice.. some ground peanut.. tomato.. anyway.. it's not always on the menu board, but when it's available I can't pass up a cup or a bowl. As with any of their soups they get some extra points for the Lance Captain's Wafers on the side. Jack's Chili - One of the heartiest chili's I've ever had.. it makes Wendy's or Campbell's taste like tomatoey-beef water. Don't expect it to be spicy.. but it's a savory, flavorful bowl. Spinning Bowl Salad - Not that you'd ever think of ordering a salad at a deli, but this one is loaded - hard-boiled egg, blue cheese crumbles, big croutons, and "Famous" dressing. Miscellaneous Deli Items - I'd recommend picking up some stuffed grape leaves when they're available. The handsliced lox is pricey - as handsliced lox tends to be - but it's probably the freshest cured salmon you can find in the area. As mentioned above, the kimmelwick rolls are outstanding. If you're just looking to pick up some fresh deli meat to take home, you can't go wrong with taking a half dozen kimmelwick rolls with you. Take a few brownies with you too. Hope this has been thorough and informative. Whatever the rating scale, Kravitz gets the maximum number of stars available. read more

The staff here is very nice, but when I pay for triple meat and it is the same amount of meat as the regular sandwich - I have to question the procedures. I actually don't think it was intentional... they just don't have a solid process. The food is just "okay" and it is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a New York style deli. One of my favorite local spots, the hours are inconvenient for breakfast. The corned beef breakfast sandwich is my favorite.

Im a foodie so I ordered both "jack takes over" and classic reuben. The 5 Stars is bc of the JTO- it is $12 but fantastic... Im not a big sandwich guy but it is great. Hot and toasty. Excellent tasting pastrami with melted cheese. It is a feel good/good decision food choice. Youll be satisfied. Side dish is included although very small. Coleslaw was good. Mac salad was ok. Reuben- very good, 4/5. Ill definitely be back to try some other sandwiches and the JTO again. read more

Shout out to the amazing staff at Kravitz Delicatessen. Stopped in today while in town for a baseball tournament. Since we are traveling with our dog I stayed outside while everyone else ordered. First, an employee came out and offered our dog some water. A few minutes later he came back with a peanut butter dog bone for her which made our wait outside so much more enjoyable for her and myself. We took the food to Wick Park suggested by the staff. The food was delicious! My turkey Rueben was grilled to perfection and the rest of the group really enjoyed their pastrami and corned beef ruebens; and we shared some yummy corned beef hash. Excellent authentic Jewish deli-type food. Great aroma of freshly baked breads. Each time I've eaten there, the sandwiches were delicious with freshly sliced meats or fish. Their food is always delicious here. The staff is welcoming even when they're busy. My favorites are the classic Reuben and the sweet and sour cabbage soup. I thought I remembered them previously making their own thousand island or maybe they used a higher quality one, but today in my take out order they included packets of the dressing which weren't the best. Overall is a great old school deli with tons of options and great quality food. They also have pastries and cookies, I haven't tried them but they look delicious.
