I was visiting the town I grew up in and stopped at Kravitz Delicatessen. I go way back with Kravitz - to 1963 when we used to go every Sunday - it was called the Elm Street Delicatessen. It changed names when it moved to Liberty in 1970 and was in the Kravitz family from 1939 to 2022, when it was sold. I thought I'd stop in to see how it was doing. I had the Roast Turkey sandwich on rye. It was delicious! Lean, great flavor and texture; it was as good as I remembered it! The fries were also exceptionally good - large with a crispy exterior and a fluffy, potato rich interior! They were some of the largest fries I've had! Came in with a friend to order lunch before a hike. My friend ordered a sandwich and appetizer and I wanted a kids sandwich since I medically am unable to consume a full meal. This is the first time in my life I was told I couldn't order off the kids menu. Super disappointed when my friend ordered a whole meal and my kids meal was still going to be a $10 sandwich. Family owned and operated, do yourself a favor... stop here for food! The service was extremely down to earth, welcoming, and friendly. The restaurant itself has a diner vibe, and is very clean. On our way from Indiana to visit our son and DIL in New Jersey, my wife and I stopped at Kravitz Deli for lunch and liked it so much we stopped there again 3 days later on our way back. When we went in, the lady that seated us said their soups were the best. I got the clam chowder along with a pastrami sandwich. Both were great. I love these old time delis and will stop in again! My staff and I traveled from Cleveland to Youngstown for a training event on July 7, 2026. We chose Kravitz Deli as our location for lunch having not been there before and wanting to go somewhere that's a local establishment. Our Server Kristen was on it and took care of us well and our meals were fantastic. I ordered the Rueben which was amazing and the potato salad was solid! One of our staff members forgot to bring home their itemized receipt to be reimbursed for their lunch. I called the next morning and spoke with Matthew (the owner) and after getting off the phone with him, he was able to provide me a copy of her itemized receipt within minutes. Food is awful . I had sandwiches for me and my aunt usually I pick her up one every year. The first year she complained about the meat corn beef sandwich. Too much gristle . I wish I could leave them 0 star reviews. The food looked great on the reviews. The cooks were working hard, and the manager was very welcoming who greeted us right away. We waited 14 minutes exactly to be "spoken" to. By spoken, I mean I had to speak up to see if we were getting service. My mother said "excuse me" to get her attention. The server greeted us by yelling," I'm not ignoring you, clearly I'm busy with my tables!" That response with the tone of voice, said it all. We had come into town for my step dad's funeral, and yet we were treated with no dignity or respect. As we decided to walk out, server says" I don't even care." Kravitz is the real deal! This delicatessen experience won't make you forget about a Jewish Brooklyn deli, but it doesn't need to. It's right here in the valley! The ambience is special. Tiny tile adorns the floor, refrigerated meat cases that date back to when your grandparents were dating. The place looks like it was last updated, well, never. I got a Reuben. Wife got a turkey club. The pastrami was tender, salty and fatty (fatty in a good way). Layered generously on perfectly grilled rye bread. I wasn't in love with my potato chips being served to me in a bag on the plate like I was in middle school, but a small complaint overall. I'm originally from the east coast, so that obviously makes me unapologetically arrogant. I've had better pastrami in my life. But I've never had better pastrami in Ohio. Had my first experience here this week and it won't be my last. All of you people driving to New York City, you should probably get off at this exit if you want to have the bestcorned beef. This delicatessen was so cute! We made a pit stop on our drive since we had seen all the good reviews and didn't want to stop for fast food. The staff was so friendly. Ambiance: Very low-key restaurant that's a little Frankensteined with a bakery up front, diner in the middle and bar in the back. We seated ourselves per the sign and had a waitress within the minute although we were admittedly there at an off hour. We were instantly charmed by the super friendly staff and it was fun hearing the locals talking so familiarly with everyone while we waited. It's the kind of place where you genuinely feel like they're eager to help you have a good experience and everything is done with a smile. Food: My wife had the Vallourec star and I had the Kraut on Fire. Both sandwiches had a great ratio of meat:bread:veges and I was happy to not have to ask for extra sauerkraut for once. The meat was sliced nice and thin, giving each bite a nice tender texture as the layers spread out with savory goodness as you chew. The meat was steam-warmed which keeps everything moist but also means you lack the caramelization of a good roasting. The rye bread was not too herby or overpowering and let the meat truly shine. I was not the fan of the Russian dressing as I'm not a fan of sweet sauces but they served it on the side and the sandwich didn't really need a sauce. The Kraut on Fire which sounded like the spiciest option really had no heat, unless regular pepper jack is a challenge for you. We enjoyed the vallourec the best as the corned beef and pastrami provided a nice contrast to on another. We also got a tea biscuit and two kipfels which were all amazing. They were delightfully buttery and crumbly, flaking and melting in your mouth before giving way to natural fruit fillings. You won't find any artificial, syrupy, or canned flavors. Overall we had a really enjoyable meal. The sandwiches were excellently proportioned and the meats which were made in-house were all top-notch. I would gladly come back just for the pastries alone but what truly sets the place apart is the quality of the staff. It's a place you want to be a regular at and get to be friends with everyone.
