    Gourds for $1
    Emilie C.

My daughter loved it here. Had so much fun walking in the play areas, the hayride was great! She took him three gourds. We got fudge and honey and cinnamon donuts which were good. All the workers were very polite and helpful. We came on a Saturday afternoon not super busy either.

My mom and I came here years ago so it was fun to return while we were nearby today. It's nice that there's no entry fee, and there's still stuff to do on a weekday though less than the weekend. (Wish there were cider and donuts today, though!) We enjoyed the affordable giftshop, buying some fall decor trinkets and some apple butter and honey, then roamed a bit. There are cool carved wood pieces everywhere to see (bears, owls, pumpkin on a man's head) so those are fun to find. We love the little houses and the "How tall this fall?" yardstick (I have not grown or shrunk since the last time, haha). It's also cool to look across the land at the sea of pumpkins waiting to be bought! The animals are cute but remind me that I am a city girl, haha. It was fairly busy on a Friday afternoon: us, some families with kids and a group of crazy teen girls doing a scavenger hunt. I can't imagine the crowds on a weekend! Come on down to Channahon before the pumpkins get picked over and have some fall fun at Dollinger.

We visited in October 2020 during the pandemic. I did a lot of research to find the farms that are taking proper safety precautions with a setup that allows for social distancing. Dollinger Family Farm checked all the boxes, so we gave it a shot. I'm so glad I did because we had a very positive experience. We arrived on a Saturday right when it opened to avoid crowds. There were others there, but distancing was so easy. There were signs everywhere about wearing a mask and there was also a hand-washing station. We noticed a lot of other farms that are an easy drive from like Chicago did not take this pandemic seriously at all, so we loved supporting a farm that did take it seriously. We looked a bit at the animals--so cute!--before heading over to look at the pumpkins (AKA the main event). They had a tractor set up with a bunch of assorted squash for the perfect photo op. Then, pumpkins were sorted into piles based on size with a sign with the price. For example, a pile with $8 pumpkins. I believe the most expensive were $12. We selected two $8 pumpkins that were huge! My only suggestion would be to actually label the pumpkins with prices. The people in front of us in line picked a pumpkin from the $9 pile, but the employee insisted that this was too big of a pumpkin to have come from that pile. She said sometimes customers move the pumpkins around. I don't blame the customers for being a little frustrated because they obviously picked their pumpkin with the price in mind. We were worried this might happen to us, but they did not question when we told them we picked $8 pumpkins. The service was excellent. An employee actually took our pumpkins and we could drive up to pick them up before leaving. It was so helpful not to have to carry these huge pumpkins over to the car ourselves. We will definitely be back next year!

    My niece at pumpkin patch

I went here with my niece and family to enjoy the pumpkin patch offerings at the s Dollinger Family Farm. This was my first visit to a "patch" and I gotta say it was fun. For kids, there's lots to do and see. My niece loved petting the goats and bunnies and watching the roosters. I really liked the colonial costumes some were wearing and the historical lessons. We stayed a good 2-hours to take it all in. It was busy as all get out when we went with all the hayrides full so try to get there early. Put on sunscreen too because everything is outdoors with the exception of the market and snack huts.

FREE parking, NO admission fee, a lot of activities for the kids- petting area w/ rabbits, sheep, goats, donkeys, and turkeys although you don't want to touch them. They have a large tepee, a corn bin, hayride, gift shop, and eating area w/ something for everyone. My husband recommends the mini donuts and fudge. His favorite fudge is the pumpkin nut followed closely by the dark chocolate pumpkin cheesecake and honey cashew. They have a large variety of pumpkins and I remember them ranging from $8 to $10. You can use their carts/wagons to to them to your car. I would return when my daughter is a little bit older so she can have some fun petting the animals and playing around. It's a great place to make some memories.

This farm is the real deal! I have been going every year for a decade and it's my favorite spot for fall fun. First of all, parking and entrance are FREE. You could spend the entire day there without spending a cent. My kids enjoy the open play area featuring a small town theme with handmade wooden playhouses and vehicles, slides and life-size tipi. Plus a pirate ship playground, corn bin, hay bales to climb on and jump off, farm animals, and ALL THE photo ops! Of course, there are are extra activities you can pay to do such as a challenging corn maze, hay ride with story-teller, train ride, food, and gift shop. There is face painting too and pick your own pumpkins. COVID specific: ALL staff were wearing masks and lots of sanitizer stations were around the property. The buildings all require face masks and people were complying. You can remove your mask in the open play areas. We went on a Sunday when the Bears were off and it didn't get crowded until around 2PM. My kids had the corn bon to themselves at one point! We rode the hay ride with 2 other families - we had tons to room to distance. There are clean porta-potties with foam sanitizer stations immediately outside.

This Farm had beautiful grounds, lots to do and so affordable as you can choose what you want to do and admission is free. My kids loved the animals, corn maze and corn bin. They had a blast. I got some beautiful pictures. Tons of photo ops. The staff was very friendly and I purchased some honey which was delicious. The pumpkin prices were reasonable as well they had some gigantic ones for $10. And smaller ones were less money. The pie pumpkins were 3.50. I will definitely stop in at Christmas time again.

Great place to bring the family very reasonably priced. The pumpkin patch was amazing and the corn maze is super cool. I will be back next year.

    Petting the goats!

Grew up in the Minooka area and have been here a handful of times. Always a great family atmosphere, lots of activities to do especially with the kids! Having goats and donkeys you can look at and pet there, it's pretty cool.

Fun little place to take the kids for fall activities such as mazes, rides, petting zoo, food and face painting. They also host a few adult activities such as war re-enactments. It's a little pricier now but still cheaper than other places. I will be going back regularly

To me, dunking on a small business is usually 'no bueno', but after two visits to Johansen's fall petting zoo I find myself wondering "THIS is what we paid for??" Very few things are truly free these days, and I get that, but admission to Johansen's does not fall in the realm of good value. Located along Boughton Rd in Bolingbrook, Johansen's is open during the spring/summer as a nursery and farm (April-July), during autumn as a pumpkin patch, and briefly in the winter to sell Christmas trees. On busy weekends in October, police have a lane blocked off to shepherd traffic in & out of the parking lot. On that note, parking is free, thankfully, as is walking around their pumpkin patch. I saw a review from 2017 - a mere seven years ago - that mentions admission was $13.50. It's nearly doubled since that time! $23 allows you to feed the goats, enjoy a small corn maze, hayride, a "train" (actually just a bumpy trailer pull with tiny, uncomfortable carriages), and rinky-dink mini golf. Kids have to be 42" to bounce on the myriad inflatables, however, anyone over 2yo is full price. How many 2-4 year olds have you met that are 42" tall?? Apart from Kareem Abdul Jabbar's kids, how about NONE. I'm sure Johansen's knows this, so they're screwing plenty of people with this sneaky little exploit. The pumpkin patch is nice; we found an orange specimen that was a solid 9/10, with everyone in my group agreeing it was the roundest and most picturesque gourd they'd seen in a long time. Apple cider donuts are decent and you can buy hot cider at their bake shop counter. * TL;DR * Johansen's fall festivities are cute, though you get shockingly little for the money. You'll have to pay full price for your 3-year-old, but due to height restrictions on their bouncy houses, they won't be able to go in. Adults aren't allowed on inflatables, ditto for the ponies. In fact, grown-ups will spend most of their time standing around, which I can do for free at home (or literally anywhere else). Oh, but don't despair, as you can join their fanclub for a whopping $1 off general admission! *sprays confetti* gee, thanks guys! My wife likes them because they're local, but sorry honey, I'm done-zo with Johansen's. We'll take our annual (free) picture on the hay bales, but if it's my money we're spending, next year we're making the trip to Bengtson's.

This place is pretty large with a lot to do! They have a couple of different playground areas, a small train, a giant corn maze, jumping pillows, a giant slide, plenty of animals. They have a sports area where you can throw various balls. We missed the dino outbreak earlier this year, but my son still enjoyed the dinosaur walk through. It'd be helpful if they had some brushes in the fossil digging area. I tried their apple caramel pie. It wasn't nearly as good as another local pumpkin farm (Johansen), but it was still tasty.
