I just took my kids to Krispy Kreme and had horrible customer service, just as we did the time before. The man ahead of me had called in advance to make sure they would have coffee doughnuts and the girl behind the counter said they didn't make coffee doughnuts but he finally convinced her to check and she brought out a tray of ... surprise-- coffee doughnuts. She hardly bothered to talk and made no effort to be friendly. I am disappointed that they no longer seem to carry more old-fashioned donuts like sour cream, cruellers, blueberry cake etc. but instead have gross flavors like cake batter. The doughnuts we had were good but not fresh and combined with the bad attitudes from behind the counter I don't know if we will be coming back. I havent been to too many Krispy Kremes in my life, but this place was steadily busy for 1 hour that we were there. The last time I went to a KK the sign was on and it was great. It was on for a few hours. From what I understand, this sign at this location is ALWAYS on, which is even more awesome. The donuts were fresh and fluffy. Loved it. Firstly, can I comment on the patronage of this location? To say the customers were classy would be an understatement, even at 11PM on a Saturday night. The normal aesthetic of drunk college students fighting over steaming round disks of doughnut joy were not present. This crowd was replaced by well dressed, charming adolescents that were completely polite and even willing to snap a photo of my friends and I in front of the legendary sign. I'd like to say a special word of thanks to one dashing young chap adorned in a powder blue suit that I swear I could've mistaken for the fictional Jay Gatsby. Right as we were about to pull away in our "sweet" chariot, we received 11 complimentary doughnuts by a woman I now refer to as my Kreemer Redeemer. I'm a huge Krispy Kreme fan so it would be hard for me to give any location a negative review. Donut preferences are personal, so I know a lot of people find them too sugary or too fluffy or whatever, but they're really my favorite. I even prefer them over Rise and some of the fancier places. I've never had to wait for more than like 2 minutes here, but I try not to go when it's busy (mornings or weekend nights). Service is always fine; maybe not the friendliest, but quick and efficient. However on 9/19/2013 a group of 3 of us dressed up in creative costumes with with origami parrots and homemade newspaper formed pirate hats, along with other items. Yet we did not get any points [or donuts] for our creativity. This store manager required us to have actual pirate attire! Pirates have been extinct for over 400 years! I pass this KK all the time, but never go as I'm not a KK fan. However, I ended up with some free doughnut vouchers, so of course I went to freeload. My review is based only on the drive thru. Awkward drive through route with KK being on the corner of an intersection. In one trip I almost got hit twice. I just got doughnuts and coffee, which were actually pretty good. The lady working probably woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day though. That or maybe she was irritated I was freeloading with free doughnut vouchers, LOL! Sorry lady! It was me and my friends senior year of highschool and Krispy Kreme was giving out a free 12 donuts to each senior that came that day. Krispy Kreme closed at 10pm and me several other groups of seniors got there before 10pm. The workers proceeded to close when we got there which was before 10pm and said "they were out of donuts". But we could easily see racks of glazed donuts sitting out, hundreds of more donuts being made, and bags of more donuts saved to the side for the workers to take home. Us and several other seniors sat outside the Krispy Kreme waiting for the manager but other workers came out and rudely told us to leave and the donuts "were not for us", we could also see the manager and several other workers inside complaining and make rude comments about us. I would never recommend coming to an institution who doesn't appreciate its customers or community on a very important night. read more

The glazed donuts are awesome! I am weird as I actually prefer them "cool and later" vs. my wife who loves them "hot and now." They remind me of Freddie's Donuts that were sold back in Buffalo NY growing up. Supposedly, the owner of Freddies was buddies with the KK guy in Winston-Salem. Freddies is long gone....closed in 1989. So we were delighted to find Krispy Kreme. Also love the Blueberry glazed cake donut. I am a Senior of 2020 class, and I as a Senior was promised a free box of 2020 donuts with proof that I am a Senior ( I wore my cap with 2020 tassel ) and when I ordered and asked about the free box, they replied saying that it was only on Tuesday when the website clearly stated that Seniors get a free box of donuts with proof of class of 2020 saying that between the dates of May 18th - May 24th. Since I got a request to review Krispy Kreme downtown I thought I'd finally get around to it. How can you give KK anything but 5 stars?! The Hot Fresh ones are worth 6 stars. They literally melt in your mouth. It's a good thing I don't live too close or I would probably weigh 300 pounds. They also sponsor the Krispy Kreme challenge every February. We have participated in this race the last 2 years and it is a blast. For those not familiar, you start at the NCSU Bell tower and run 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme on Peace Street. When you get there they have tables full of boxes and boxes of KK Donuts. After you have had your fill of donuts you run the 2 miles back. If you enter as a challenger, the goal is to do the entire 4 miles and a dozen donuts in under an hour, hopefully without losing your donuts in the process. They also have the casual runner option for those of us who want to participate but don't want to eat a dozen donuts. The proceeds go the to the NC Children's hospital so it's for a great cause. There are always lots of folks running in crazy costumes and little bands playing along the route. read more

Let me start by saying I love krispy kreme and will stand by the fact that they're the best doughnuts money can buy. This review however is in regards to the staff and location on Person St. I have gone to this location hundreds of times and never had a problem until about last year or two. The first negative thing was the staff started to be noticeably rude. As another yelper mentioned, the staff was so into themselves and their own conversation that they had no time to deal with taking my order or ya know doing their job. When they weren't busy yapping amongst one another, they were short with me and other customers and frankly, had no manners. Poor customer service aside, the last straw for this location was the other night when I went to purchase some special halloween doughnuts. I have been to this location past midnight dozens of times. The drive thru was open 24 hours which was great especially for weekends where you had those late night cravings. To my surprise, I drove up at 12:15 to find the whole store pitch black. I quickly checked my phone to see when the store closed and was shocked to see the entire store (drive thru and all) now closes at midnight every single night of the week. After thinking on my past few experiences at this location, I am not surprised. With the advent of a rude and lazy staff, it is no surprise that they would also cut the hours. That being said I will support the Franklin street location and then the Durham location once it opens from now on. read more

This place's service is horrible, the workers are mean, and their drive-thru is very bad. They have a policy that you can't get more than two waters at the drive-thru! We got a dozen donuts, but still two waters. So after twenty minutes of waiting my dad goes in to order our waters. Then they give us six waters. But when our drive-thru worker walked away she screamed, "OH MY GOD!" And in a very annoyed and angry tone. I will never come here again. read more

My girlfriend and I flew in from Texas with an ongoing bet that these Krispy Kremes would be far superior to the mediocre Krispy Kreme's back home. She grew up on hot Krispy Kremes and was determined to show me just how great they truly are. We got into Raleigh around 1pm the first day and made a beeline to this location. She goes in and asks when there will be hot donuts and they say they only do them from 6a-10a. Fine. Mildly dismayed she decides to just come back the next day because in her words "it doesn't count if they are not hot." So we come back the next day at 8 am thinking it would be prime time for hot donuts: WRONG. We get there and the hot donut sign was off so we again go inside and ask how long it will be. My girlfriend gets excited as we wait in line because the conveyer starts to bring out the hot ones! We get up to the front and she orders a half dozen hot donuts and the cashier lady says it will be 40 minutes... At 8 am on a Saturday... When we can see the hot donuts literally right in front of us. My girlfriend politely asks what about the ones coming out to which the cashier gets incredibly inpatient and just repeats 40 minutes. Being somewhat sane and reasonable people, we hang our heads and accept a box of 6 cold green (St Patrick's day) donuts. But wait there's more! My girlfriend had also ordered a coffee so we waited for that as well and low and behold, the people behind us were equally miffed about the hot donut deception. Now this lady was a little more persistent... But it paid off! They gave her hot ones! Served with a large side of attitude and terrible customer service but hot ones none the less! My girlfriend is pissed. It's not in her nature to argue with someone at a cash register but as she pointed out, you shouldnt have to argue to get decent service! It was as simple as walking back and filling a box with donuts. Or at the very least apologizing for the wait and misconception that the hot donuts would be available from 6-10. As simple and ridiculous as it sounds, its not just about donuts. It's about the lack of customer service and the attitude that people are copping when asked to do the job they are being paid to do. We are your average blue collar folks who work our boring jobs so I get that it's not ideal to be at Krispy Kreme at 8 am on Saturday morning but it's your job! So if you're gonna be there, then at least bite the bullet and do your job well. Basically it was the crippling culmunation of crushing childhood nostalgia, rude and impatient workers, and cold, hard donuts that turned a fun little bet into a sprawling Yelp rant. Ok, your doctor might not think it is a good idea but if you are craving something sweet and not healthy for you, maybe you want to have that debate with yourself on how donuts have less carbs than bagels. Sorry yankees, but Dunkin' is not where it's at. Krispy Kreme is the best doughnut...PERIOD! I have been to Daylight, Voodoo in Portland, and many other doughnut shops, but always come back to this staple. I have been coming here since I was little, and it never gets old. Even after running the Krispy Kreme challenge and finishing the entire dozen, I still went back for more and finished the day with 17 doughnuts total. They have drive thru and you can go in to see them being made. If the HOT sign is on, you are in luck, and must get the original glazed. My 5 year old even gave up a chocolate covered with sprinkles for a warm original glazed. They just melt like butter. read more

I love Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They're as good as it gets. Hot Nows are heaven! I really enjoy taking a trip to the doughnut shop now and then. The bright neon signs are like a beacon calling you to the yummy goodness. The restaurant is clean and the wait staff is friendly. The doughnuts are always delicious. We usually get two dozen. One dozen Hot Nows and one dozen mixed. We will sit there and immediately eat about six between the four members of our family. Then my daughter will get a paper hat for her and her brother and we will watch them make the doughnuts through the big windows in the back. It's snack and a show! You can't get much better than that. read more
