The water was wild but exciting, the energy was high, and the crews were out there grinding like the weather didn't even matter. Between the races, the laughs, the chaos, and the "we really doing this in the rain" moments, it became one of those days you remember because it wasn't perfect...it was real. Even soaked, freezing, and fighting the wind, Lanikai still gave those postcard views and that classic Kailua blue. And somehow, the tougher the weather got, the more fun the day became. That's regatta life. If you want a beach that tests you but still gives you a good time, Lanikai on a regatta day is exactly that.

I will say that there are not that many shaded areas, but me and my friends were lucky enough to find shade underneath one of few trees that were along the beach. We brought our own lawn chairs from our hotel. But plenty of people brought their own umbrellas, tents, and other beach fun items. Weather was great, but there were rip current warning signs everywhere, so it was good to know that they want visitors to the beach to be cautious. I would recommend this beach for a visit. Easy 10/10 experience.

On the day we visited, there was a local art show exhibiting some talented local artists' paintings. The weather was perfect, and we spent a little time exploring the beautiful grounds. There seems to be lots of events here, including fishing in the reservoir and meetings in the garden's headquarters. I wish I had had a full day to explore the Hoomaluhia Botanical Gardens or lived closer to the park to visit more frequently. But even in the short time I had, I got a sense of things - the serenity and peace that envelopes you as you wander about and explore. I highly recommend a visit when you want some unwinding time. It's located across the street from Kailua Beach Park. You have to cart your own kayak from the rental shop to the beach shore where you'll meet your guide. We were in a group of six and one guide. They have single and double kayaks. The guided tour provides life vests, dry bags, snorkels, water bottles, and lunch. The trip to the island took us approximately 1.5 hours maybe a bit more to Kayak the 2.3 miles due to strong head winds. It was faster on the return trip. We even had time to stop on flat island. This is one of my favorite activities to do while on Oahu. I love the scenic views heading to the "Mokes" and I love the views looking toward Oahu while out on the water. It's such a magical kayaking adventure. The island is a bird sanctuary and if you go at the right time you'll see nesting birds and if you are lucky, you'll see the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. We saw three (maybe four, not sure if one was the same one that swam to a different spot) on Moku Nui and one on Popoi'a Island sandbar. There's a few different pathways going toward the ocean, some people like to swim there but it's usually pretty rocky and dangerous waters here so I wouldn't recommend unless you're a strong swimmer. Popular for fishing too. No bathrooms or showers located here. P.S. it is rocky during the first part of the trail so I recommend wearing shoes so you don't twist an ankle or lose your slippa like I've seen others. Otherwise, it's pretty casual nature walk to enjoy on the east side. Enjoy!

There was a free parking lot once we arrived, so no issue with driving there. After you park you have to take the unpaved pathway and walk about 5 -10 minutes and you'll arrive at the tide pools. My nephew really enjoyed seeing all the snails, shells, rocks, and other creatures. Definitely should wear water shoes because a it's a lot of rocks. There is a place you can get in the water where the waves were low, but I would highly recommend not going too far in the water and being careful along the rock edges because the waves looked very very strong. Overall the views were pretty and the experience was nice.

You can do the regular hike in…read moreflip flops since it is paved- but for your safety you should wear sneakers for the tide-pools. Head up the paved hike. 2/3rds of the way up and the 3rd look out is the entrance to the tide-pools. Veer left once you enter and follow the directions markers. Some nice person has spray painted the way look for these to ensure you're going the correct way. There are some loose rocks so be careful. The view of the ocean is beautiful and the tide-pools get closer as you creep down. This is one of those hikes that stay with you and you will never forget. You will be swimming with the fish in the tide-pools as the ocean is splashing as you are safely tucked in the tide pool. This hike is truly magical.

Such a laid back, friendly and knowledgeable guy, Kyle made us feel like we were just a bunch of friends hanging out on his boat for the day. Was gift for my mom when she was visiting from NJ. She loved it. Saw coconut island with hundreds of fish, then walked around sandbar, then saw about 20 turtles maybe more and then lunch stop at secret beach (or was it called island) and then past china mans hat. Very special excursion, away from tourists, and I plan on recommending this to all my mainland guests. Made me wish I had a boat but then again I don't know the first thing about maintenance, rules on boating (is that a verb) etc. will just have to make sure to become a regular patron of this business.

There was no poke, today. The deli recently opened for food service, so I'm hoping the food taste and quality will improve.

Anyways, you get a nice view of Ko`olau mountains and Chinaman's hat even though it's still far away. There's public restrooms that's fairly decent. Free parking is available but by noon it fills up on the pier side. There's more parking on the harbor side but I'm not sure if you can park there.
