We went to New Hampshire for the day to look at foliage in the White Mountain National Forest. On our way there, we noticed Kristas and we've had a few friends tell us how great it was. On the way home, the place had a line out the door but we noticed a few tables outside. Keep in mind it's 57* but we are Mainers and in April we are all dining outdoors wherever possible at this temperature. In September, not so exciting! It's a two hour wait for a table indoors but we could be seated outside right away so we take it. Remember, we are Mainers. I'm so glad we did. We ordered our drinks and the stuffed mushrooms which were actually mushrooms stuffed with a little meatball and covered in an insane amount of mozzarella cheese. The edges of the cheese are burnt just enough to make it "chip like". Perfection! My husband ordered the Sandwich with the Italian meats and cheese and I ordered the burger with bacon and mushrooms. We both were very pleased with our sandwich choices. We'd never been to Cornish Maine even though we both grew up here in southern Maine. I told my husband I want to spend next birthday at an inn inCornish and have my birthday dinner at Krista's restaurant. Our waitress Cathy was so friendly, I wanted to hug her when we left. Wonderful dinner out with my kids tonight. Everything we got was delicious ( soup , pistachio crusted haddock, 2 kids meals and brownie sundae for dessert) and our waitress was very helpful and accommodating. Huge thumbs up for offering outside dining as we are still very covid conscious with an immunocompromised family member and this was just perfect. This gem in Cornish Maine is a best kept secret. The outdoor patio has a comfy atmosphere and the staff is attentive and friendly. The food rivals any restaurant in Portland Maine, and the drink list has lots of great options. From the appetizer to my entree every bite was delicious. I'd travel further to get here than spend 45 minutes trying to find a parking space in Portland. Every experience I've had here has been more than expected. This is a quaint and homey spot right on n downtown Cornish. It's a nice ride from Portland, and is smooth sailing after you get through the Westbrook/Gotham cluster. Reservations are a must. We has 5:30 reservations and the place was full, including all the bar seating, when we arrived. The menu is nicely assembled, with a nice combination of casual sandwiches and burgers, salad combo's with a variety of add-ons to make them a meal, and about 15 entree items. An ok wine list, I started with a $9 California chard (with a very generous pour),with an order of clams Casino. There were six mid sized clams, pancetta instead of bacon, fresh chives, and Romano cheese instead of parm. The clams were nicely plump, and hot to the touch, which is perfectly cooked. The Romano gave a bit of a salty essence, but nothing overbearing. Overall, a very solid appetizer, and a nice paring with the Chardonnay. I went with the thyme crusted prime rib, which I pared with an $11 California cab, with a latke style potato pancake and veggies. The prime rib was cooked reasonably close to my medium rare, maybe a tad closer to medium in a few spots. Overall, the meat was very tender and the thyme crusting, with the juicy meaty flavors, and a bit of horseradish side dip was very enjoyable. The portion was oversized, well over 16 oz. The potato pancake was decent. I'm normally not a huge fan of these, but it was nicely seared off on the outside, and had some chopped onion added to it. I also sampled the chicken saltimbocca, which was another very hearty and generous potion. The prosciutto was noticeable, and the sauce was thick and flavorful. Overall, I like Krista's. The dining is casual, the food is good, and the pricing is decent for the portions and value. I find this a solid four star effort. They need to work on the airflow...as temps were in the low 60's, but with a packed house and lots of bodies in smaller rooms, it was hot and many of the windows didn't open, and they don't have any central AC. It didn't detract from our dinner, but if it was 85 out instead of 60...,I could see a temp and airflow issue here. read more

Had a zest grapefruit margarita and a California club. Both were excellent, way more turkey than necessary. Husband had a Hendricks cucumber lemonade and a plain hamburger. 100% recommend for date night. My wife had the Ruben and loved it. I had the prime rib, medium with the spuds and veggies. The freshest vegetables, and the most perfectly marbleized piece of prime rib. Just enough fat on it for the perfect amount of flavor, but not too much. The crusting on the outside of the piece was perfectly seasoned, just enough to compliment the quality of the meat. The portion was tremendous as well, I haven't been that full in quite some time. We also shared the fried Brussel sprouts, and let me tell you, oh child those were good. I'm not a Brussel sprout kinda guy, but these had my wife and I fighting over them. Their service is amazing, we got there on Saturday- 10 people strong and ready for breakfast. They made room for us and sat us within 10 mins.Their breakfast and brunch is awesome -all homemade items like french toast with freshly made bread. I personally had corned beef hash and a egg and toast this morning (freshly made hash so good!!) It was so tasty we returned on Sunday and we all were as happy second morning. This morning I had french toast. SO GOOD! All serving sizes are huge, you will not go away hungry. If you're in the area, it's necessary to stop here. Lots of signage on the walls, cute colorful seating area to wait, small bar area & outdoor seating on patio or screened porch (with a paper latern type of lighting). We got seated quickly for a late lunch. Our waitress brought water & offered lemons when she learned we were sticking to water. I have celiac & ordered a cup of chili -- thick, well spiced & covered w red onion & green onion. Waitress asked if she should nix the tortilla chip that gets served w the chili --considerate to my needs ...but wait a second... This is the only reason for the 4 stars. Waitress was kind enough to check on chili seasoning w chef due to my GF needs but knowing that they're served w a chip -- why not check to ensure the tortilla is 100% corn too? My own pet peeve...chili was delicious however. We ordered salads -- which proved to be gigantic in portion. TIP: order one salad & share for party of 2!! Chicken pesto salad & the chicken salad both wonderful -- looked to be a nicely grilled breast on ea plate. There was a lobster roll on the menu that looked great -- lucky for me, the table next to us ordered it -- also HuGE! Service was quick, bathrooms were tidy/clean & they have a lovely dessert presentation ---we got the espresso chocolate cake -- to share bc we learned our lesson! Good locally owned restaurant with plenty of organic options. Tasty and relatively inexpensive with good service. We came for breakfast and the only weird thing were a couple of options presented when ordering regarding locally sourced items vs whatever. For instance, would I like local organic blueberries and syrup or Aunt Jemima and ....blueberrie-like...whatever you would get at a Denny's? I actually laughed, I thought the server was kidding...nope. The guy at the table next to me went with the "Aunt Jemima/Denny's option. Only Con in my opinion is the Home Fries. Been here a few times. Overall I've been happy here but the price is on the high end and I don't think the food sometimes justifies the price. Been here twice now, and it's a challenge to think of a better breakfast I've had in my lifetime. On both visits, we started off with one of the their homemade muffins. First visit was blueberry; the visit this past weekend was raspberry peach. The muffins are generously sized, and are sliced in half, buttered and grilled before being delivered to the table. I involuntarily growled and showed my teeth when my wife went to grab the last piece. So delicious. Our kids love the frenchtoast, and for good reason. Large slices of french bread, buttered and grilled so it's crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. You get a choice of "real" maple syrup or "table syrup." The upcharge for the real syrup is worth the extra buck. The omelettes are enormous. A ham, peppers and onions omelet and a steak tip and onion omelet were delivered bursting at the seams. Omelettes are delivered with homemade bread - the raisin is excellent. Pancakes topped with fruit are smothered in a pile of blueberries or whatever else is available that you like. Meats are fresh and scrumptious; the "butcher bacon" is crisp and hefty. If you like home fries, they come in about 8 varieties, including plain or with melted cheddar; cajun and cheddar; and Mexican style with salsa/peppers/onions among other varieties. Incredible. The one thing I didn't care for is the corned beef hash, surprisingly. It IS homemade and well prepared, but the flavor was too tangy for me. Others seem to love it, so don't take my opinion as gospel. Try it for yourself. The interior of this place is very inviting, and feels very chic and modern despite being out in the middle of nowhere. The dining room is warm and cozy, and well decorated. Nice views of the river on the backside. My wife and I are headed back there for dinner later in the month and looking forward to it. There is a really nice bar with about 10 local beers on tap, so we'll be enjoying that part of it as well, I'm certain. read more

On the way out some guy asked if everything was fine. I should not have said yes because it wasn't. For the first time I was disappointed with Krista's. We ate there Friday night 11/5/15. First, our waitress apparently must have thought we were going to be lousy tippers because that's how we were treated. But we still gave a good 20% despite her trespasses. I was originally going to select the pistachio haddock, but always wanted to try chicken saltimbocca -and I knew that my favorite restaurant would make it right. But unless chicken saltimbocca is supposed to be overcooked and dry, it was overcooked and dry; and I could only eat 1/3 of it. My friend ordered prime rib cooked medium. It came out blood red. He refused to send it back because he never sends anything back, and only ate part of it. And my aunt said the bay scallops were better the last time; I wouldn't know because I didn't sample one the last time. So is this the rise and fall of the once-great Krista's? read more

A lot has changed at Krista's since my last visit. My blueberry martini was well executed. The appetizers were to die for - stuffed mushrooms surrounded by crusty baked cheese and fried calamari with a spicy smoked paprika aioli - both great takes on classic starters. I had the glazed pork chops, which were also superb and more for than one person could consume at a sitting. The service was friendly and very attentive. I would consider Krista's a great destination for fine dining in Western Maine. read more

My sister and her husband brought is here and dinner was delicious. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly, my husband had pork tenderloins which he enjoyed. My sister had a wedge salad with scallops and my brother in law had chicken tortellini - they both liked their meals. No room for dessert but they looked amazing!! We have had lunch a couple of times at Krista's and it was very good. Our most recent dinner for our daughters birthday? Not so much. Our server was rushed-she was actually just a poor server-haphazard and inattentive. The appetizers (scallops, yummlets and Thai wings) were average. In addition, my scallops (entree) were over cooked - rubbery. The concept (scallops over chorizo hash) was a great one but poorly executed. Our tab for 3 with tip was $190 and included no alcohol-a lot for what we ate and the service really topped off a bummer experience. We are going to try brunch but don't expect we will attempt dinner again. read more

We came for a belated Father's Day get together and it is well worth the drive out from Portland! Very friendly staff, made good recommendations, and responded to all of our requests with grace and good humor! Excellent coffee. I had one, giant pancake (as big as the plate, and an inch thick), with blueberries and table syrup. It was excellent. I also had a side of the thick cut bacon, crispy and tasty. The spouse had Mexican hash browns (hash brown potato with cheese, salsa, and sour cream), topped with two eggs. Very good, very large portion. Others in our party had the Eggs Benedict, and reported it was very good, and the Hash and Eggs, also very much enjoyed. read more

I was really disappointed in my meal tonight. First, the restaurant recently underwent a renovation extending where used to be a very small bar. They also converted the porch into a four seasons, essentially ruining what was a beautiful outdoor experience next to the waterfall. Now you're indoors. My son and I both ordered the tortellini meal. I had chicken and he had the shrimp. We were expecting something akin to an Alfredo sauce or pesto. What we got was a white wine sauce. My son didn't like it so we ordered him a cheeseburger and fries to replace the meal. I don't blame Krista's for charging us for both, however it would've been nice if they had let us know about the wine sauce. Our waitress also seemed annoyed as opposed to apologetic. What bugged me was that they no longer offer free refills on drinks. We each had lemonade, a total of five between us which ran us $14. The meals were 21 and 22+ the burger was 16. Adding an appetizer and a couple of desserts to go and the bill was $100. Don't get me wrong the food is excellent, but the place has become very overpriced for the area. I know that the renovation was expensive, but it's getting ridiculous for two people to go out to dinner. I guess I felt that because we didn't like the meal they could've done a little something, even comping some of the refills, but I guess that it's too much to ask. My server was very friendly, although very busy and I didn't ask her to adjust the bill. I just was a little disappointed that there was no effort made to address our displeasure with the meal. At least act sympathetic. Still a very good restaurant, but expect to pay through the nose. read more

I've been to Kristas a few times for Brunch and drinks. While trying to think of a spot to bring my out of town mother for lunch without fighting Portland parking or tourists I figured why not. The staff were AMAZING! So sweet and accommodating. Willing to sit us in the lantern room when I asked to be moved. If you have a chance do sit back there and listen to the sound of the water while you eat. They always have great specials. My mom going for a chicken curry and myself a summer salad special. They were more then willing to make changes to make my salad a vegetarian version and by all reports that curry was to die for. If you're not a desert person usually, get it anyway. It's all made in house. Off the beaten path for sure but a pretty drive, cool antique stores on the way and you won't leave hungry! read more

We moved locally about 2 years ago now and have made Krista's our monthly date night spot.. but don't limit your visits to dinner time because Krista's serves an amazing breakfast, my favorite is there multigrain French toast and there bowl of vegetable goodness with a sprinkle of feta.. for lunch my favorite is the butternut squash and all there delightful salads!!! For dinner my favorite is there seared scallops.. they serve it in a variety of ways! Long story short Krista's has never ever lets us down! Wonderful service, delish food and amazingly clean atmosphere !! They also do take out if you are into that !! read more

Worth the 5-hour round trip motorcycle ride from Boston just for dinner. The corned beef is made on site and was used to prepare the best Reuben I've ever had. There was no skimping either, LOTS of meat. The soup was delicious as well, a vegetable bisque that was so rich and flavorful that I was thankful I asked for the cup and not the bowl; a bowl would have all but filled me, and I eat a lot. What would have been a very good review is downgraded to an improperly cooked steak. NY strip ordered medium rare was served medium well (maybe well). Table for 4. Not fun to send my dinner back. I am the slowest eater to begin with. Everyone else eats then when done they get to watch me. Not my idea of a nice $200 dinner for 4. It spoils the event for everyone. They were happy with their meals. I was busy socializing, so I forgot my 'rules' about ordering steak. Quiz the server about kitchen's tendency to overlook steak. Should I order rare when I really want medium rare? Sometimes the server is honest enough to tell me that ordering a steak is dicey and I order something else. I forgot to ask these questions. I really don't think the patron has to be on their toes when they order. I chose not to spoil everyone else's dinner. Too bad because it was my birthday. read more

Why would you ever drive to Cornish? To have a meal at Krista's!!! Not to hate on Cornish, it is a lovely little town with some great shops (if you like antiques then Cornish is for you) but it is kinda out there. Krista's is right on Main Street and has a small parking lot but you can also park along the street. I went for dinner but I've heard from others that lunch is as great and breakfast may be the best (if you don't mind waiting). Krista's really isn't that small but it is so good that it draws a crowd to fill it constantly - so make a reservation. Their menu has a dozen entrees but don't ignore the specials. I went with pesto spinach chicken which had unbelievable flavor - that pesto was freshly made and smelled amazing. My parents both got the swordfish (a special that night) which they loved but after trying I was more impressed with the chicken. We split the Thai mussels as an appetizer - the sauce had a nice kick compared to a 'traditional' one; there was plenty to split three ways. House salads came out quick and were delicious - "topped with crispy onions" yes, please. The atmosphere was also great. Being there on a Thursday, they had a live musician playing the guitar who knew his audience. Playing soft music earlier in the evening (Black Bird) then having more fun before closing (500 miles - with help from the few remaining patrons). If I had to say something bad: side vegetables were a little undercooked for my taste. Dessert was obviously great but the peanut-butter pie was frozen solid. Whatever the chocolate cake they had was perfect! Amazing food, comfortable atmosphere, and they have (had?) MBC's Peeper Ale on tap... I love it. read more

I also had the burger with bacon, blue cheese and mushrooms. It was HUGE. It was really delicious and the sweet potato fries were cooked to perfection. Their house-made pickles were also amazing.
