I am giving it a 5 star review not because it is a wonderful place, but because it is an icon of the neighborhood. The neighborhood is comprised of a lot of poor, although most of the residents are working and lower middle class people. Broadway Towers, a high rise for the elderly and disabled is across the street, which offers easy access for people without transportation. That said, there are issues, some of which are amusing, others not so much. There is almost always local characters in the store that provide entertainment. I have shopped here for nearly 40 years. I have had numerous hilarious encounters. To name a few- once I was walking to my car in the parking lot which was only half full. My parking space was in the middle of the lot with open spaces around. As I was loading my groceries, a car pulled up and sat there while I pulled out. Then they pulled into my vacated space. I did not find that strange because it's the Fellini Kroger. Another time I noticed a woman in the produce isle examining avocados. she was picking them up and holding them to her ear and shaking them. I was too amazed to think to ask her why she was doing that. Maybe she knows something that I don't. Another time, a man stopped my wife and me in an aisle so he could sing to us. These are just a few of the Fellini moments that I have experienced that made me smile. There are negatives. There used to be a problem with homeless panhandlers in the parking lot, but I haven't seen many in the last couple of years. Kroger hired uniformed off-duty police for a while, and that seems to have cleaned them out Now the most disgusting thing that I have ever experienced in my life happened in the meat aisle. I was examining the meat, not looking at the floor, when my foot slid and I almost fell. I had stepped into a pile of human excrement in the middle of the aisle. I went to the rest room to clean my shoe, and informed a staff member who seemed bored, and not too concerned. Overall, this store is an essential asset to out neighborhood and without it, we would be in a food desert. I love this store because of this and because it is so unique. read more

I'm going to start off talking about the things I like about the store, and then the negatives which there are many! The store reminds me of my childhood! The layout, and even the smell of the store, reminds me of simpler times. The store is well lit, and for the most part well-stocked. If you're looking for something chances are this Kroger has it. It has a wide selection and the prices are just...okay. Inflation sucks and Kroger, I feel is taking advantage of this. They are also trying to trick people into thinking they're saving money because they're using their Kroger card. For instance today I bought a $7.00 bag of Doritos that was marked down to $4.29. Because I used my Kroger card... What a load of crap! This location sucks because there are so many homeless people outside, just waiting to beg somebody for money, a ride... or their groceries that they just spent hard earned money to purchase. The management does not seem to care about this whatsoever, and is it fairy eager to say it's not our problem. The clientele at this Kroger sucks and the empoyees are very unfriendly... It's also very apparent that they do not want to be there. I have never once seen an employee smile, or even give the smallest hint that they're happy to be there. This whole store is like a prison and should be shut down! It's the most awful shopping experience I have ever had, and if you can make the trip to Fountain City... That Kroger is, vastly superior! read more

The infamous Fellini Kroger. It's much smaller than a normal Kroger. Shelves are often half empty. Everything is dirty. And some of the shoppers have BO that will knock you on your butt. Other than that, I don't like it much. read more

I came to this Kroger location since I picked up a cake at Magpies and Three Rivers Market was way too pricey. Wow did I feel scared! I'm not sure why but after I pulled in and parked, I felt extremely worried about the safety of my car. I've been in Knoxville for 3 years now and this was a first. Maybe it's also because my car is not even a year old? The atmosphere changed completely from Three Rivers Market and it wasn't even that far! I quickly entered and stormed to produce aisle, picked up what I needed and bounced. I usually stroll through and get distracted by sales but not this time! read more

While visiting Kroger at Chapman highway, knoxville, tn I was accosted by a corporate online grocery drone for parking in am online grocery spot to run inside for one item. The corporate guy caught me in the parking lot and told me to move my car if I wasn't an online shopper, even though none of the online spaces were taken and thus would mean I would have to walk much further across a hot parking lot. I ignored him, so he proceeded to announce my transgression on the store public address system. He then told me I had 4 minutes to move my car. Obviously this drone has no experience in customer service and online shoppers are more important to Kroger than customers who come inside their stores to shop. read more

Yes, there is a reason that this supermarket is called the Fellini Kroger, but, no, it's really not THAT bad. It's worth saying that this Kroger has gotten so much better compared to how it was when I first moved to Knoxville about eight years ago, but I'm not sure if my age has made me more indifferent to what goes on here. A trip to the Fellini Kroger involves a wide spectrum of characters. You might see a man talking (or singing) to himself sans Bluetooth earpiece. Unattended children frantically run around while mothers dressed in an ensemble that usually includes socks and sandals scream, "git back hurr, ya bunch o' whippersnappers" as though they're unaware they're creating as much of a ruckus as their kids. There's usually always a small group of people who just hang out at the front of the store and this Kroger seems to be their only option for social interaction. There's no end to what you'll see here. I suggest bringing a journal and documenting your visit. There's plenty to write about. But I must say that there's nothing wrong with this Kroger. It seems to carry most of the products and food that I need. The entertainment is a plus. read more

My review will pretty much echo Jason W's review. I only go to this Kroger when I have no other options. To be completely fair, they have changed things up a little and the store looks better organized than it did six months ago. They actually have a small organic section in the produce section. It is nowhere as nice as the Kroger in Fountain City but I think it is a functional store. However, the people that hang out around this store are the primary deterrent to my going there. Sketchy individuals who apparently have nothing else to do but to stare at you as you walk in or unload your groceries. I am almost always here early in the morning, when my other options are closed. The timing also helps limit my exposure to said individuals. I would be lying if I said I never worry about my safety every time I head over to the Fellini. read more

I walk through this place with a dropped jaw half the time. It is a truly bizzare parade of humanity interlaced with crowded isles, badly labeled food products, and some of the most narly, half-rotten, dripping with antibiotic meat packages I've experinced in the country. Horribly, it is the closest thing resembling a grocery store to my house. And the cat don't know his food come from here, so I care very little about it. They are open til 1 am. Late is often a good time to go, if you don't want to worry about how you look, or if you worry others will judge you for letting your kid stay up past 11 at night. I come out of here feeling like the best mom on the planet, and that's why I give it two stars. If you think you got it bad, try this place on for a mood booster. I did make a complaint once. An employee actually flicked his cigarette butt on the ground right in front of my kid and me as we walked in the door. The front entrance was covered in butts anyway, and I guess it was common practice. I can't make the words come out on how it turned my stomach, just no. No. This store may be responsible for the majority of pollution trash entering First Creek. The parking lot is often trashed too, so they're like "Meh. What's one more!" read more

I am sick and tired of the middle class, bourgeois people who give bad ratings to my local Kroger. We love this store. But if you are afraid of poor people, working class people, migrants, foreigners and people of color, then maybe you should stay away. We are proud of who we are and we would love to welcome you. As many have said, there is a reason it's called Fellini Kroger. It has been my local store for a while and I've seen my share of interesting sights - not every visit, but often enough. Last week, I went around midnight and there were 3 people hanging out between the front doors. When I left, one of them (a woman with cuts and bruises) asked if I had a girlfriend. She offered to sell me the rings on her finger. A guy on my other side said something about her boyfriend beating her and she needs money for a bus or something, etc. But that's the only time I recall being solicited there. I've seen plenty of people missing limbs, etc. The employees are usually nice enough, especially considering the challenges of this low-income demographic. Maybe 1 out of 5 visits I'll see something strange. read more

I have been shopping at Fellini Kroger since the Worlds Fair was going, when it was opposite the A&P (now Save-A-Lot) and much smaller. Yes, you are likely too meet some characters, often someone who "ran out of gas" or needs some money. I have meet some that were genuinely hungry and I will offer to have a taco with them at Taco Bell but I never give them money. Workers (like Toni) and customers (like Savannah) have known me since 1982. The selection is good but not as good as the Kroger in Fountain City. In all that time, I have met plenty of pan-handlers but no one has ever tried to mug me or steal anything from me. The people outside are not bad, just down-and-out. This is North Broadway, not Turkey Creek. It's not dangerous but it's not for snobs either. read more

I love my Fellini Kroger! It's good for grab and go plus light shopping. They have Brie and some organics plus awesome deli fried chicken! DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Lived up to the hype and beyond. Wife beaters and bad tats galore tossed in with a few toothless folks and definitely some certifiable crazies. The blue and pink haired lively check out gal with the lip ring was the true icing on the cake. Food? Stocked shelves? Who cares!!! I came for entertainment and even offered some of my own craziness as I spun 360's as I waited in line. Beautiful thing is, no one paid attention. I left with bags full of yummies and memories that will last me a life time. A must see when visiting Knoxville. read more

I love the community feel of this Kroger. We call it the Fellini Kroger in this area, because every experience there is pretty surreal. Even though you will meet a varied cast of idiosyncratic characters, the employees in this store are second to none. They are always ready to help and many have been there for years. I will go to no other Kroger. read more
