I came here for a very specific thing: something prepackaged and easy to carry that I could eat on my flight home. This is a nice big grocery store with a big covered parking lot, so no issues there. I bought a container of pasta salad which was only like $3 by weight - a very cost conscious dinner indeed! I love Publix supermarkets, especially, this one. I have ordered their subs several times and really like the Cuban. The app makes it easy and convenient to order and pickup is fast and efficient. Love the subs, one of the best in Knoxville. Love the supermarket, clean and well laid out. However... The service at the Deli is among the worst in town. Routinely, single subs that are ordered 30 minutes or more before their pickup time take an additional 30-45 minutes after the predicted timeframe (over an hour total from order to ready). This could be understandable in limited circumstances, I've worked in the food service industry, I get it. But the utter lack of ownership or apology/explanation when there are such prolonged delays is beyond anything I've seen in a company of this size and reputation. The employees either do not care or are not empowered to effect any kind of resolution or change. Again, once or even twice is not a pattern. At this point, however, I am the fool for continuing to return to this location. May you not be so unwise. read more

I drove the extra mile to check out this location. Everything was very well organized and easy to find. There are arrows on the ground to direct traffic flow. The customer service I received was top notch. I was asked several times by different employees how was I doing, was I finding everything okay, and if I needed help finding anything. It's Publix! That should be enough said. All Publix's in my mind anyway expect for a few odd things are the best. This place is the cleanest store I have ever been in. Both inside and out. There parking lot is well maintained. Tons of parking. I swear not one cart running amuck. Always where they should be. I have never seen one in the lot other than in the parking corral where they belong. Someone is always collecting them to keep the lot clear. I like that. It's very interesting to me that this one is attached to the store, and you need to take an elevator of escalator to go up into the store. The store when you enter looks like a typical Publix's. If you have forgotten something for someone this is the place to find it. Yep, this is the store for you. The aisles are wide and clutter free. The selection of prepared food is great. Bakery selection is yummy. All my encounters with staff have been pleasant. The bathrooms are well kept and clean. Lots of registers open for check out and bagging. This is the closest supermarket to the University so I would think it would tend to get busy but was not bad when we were here, and it was the end before Thanksgiving. Loved putting the cart down the escalator belt. Great sales. read more

Less than 3 miles from home, the "University Commons" location is our usual place to get groceries. Nice store - clean, well laid out for the most part, and good parking. However, for the past THREE years I've gone on-line repeatedly and ordered the advertised "Mojo Pork Sub". I get there only to find it's not available. Why do they advertise it? Also, we read the sale ads and go to purchase some of the times only to be told, in the case of a particular cut of meat "it's too much trouble to cut it, so we don't have it". What sort of response is that? Publix DID make it available AFTER we contacted Publix by e-mail and complained. So it was available, but the butcher department was just too lazy to do their job. In the future, should this happen again, I'm tempted to just leave my loaded shopping cart (minus perishable items) and walk out. If Publix can inconvenience me, I can return the favor. read more

I walked to the store for 20 minutes with my little 12lb puppy to get cream cheese, and they didn't allow us in, because dogs are not allowed. Whole Foods, Farmers Market and every other store out there allow, but not Publix. Never going back there. Their high prices and just average quality not worth it. read more

Or, what I do, order online at Publix.com. Online -- you're given all the options without having to awkwardly look down at the counter to see what they have. The meats on the sandwich are tasty and well-seasoned. I got the roast beef this time (delicious!) -- but one of my favorites things about PubSubs is all the veggies you can put on the sandwich. The bread seems freshly made as well. Whenever I've ordered online, they've always had my sandwich out precisely at pick up time or sometimes a few minutes before. I'm from Florida where there is a Publix on every corner. So, I was thrilled to see that there were at least a couple of stores in Knoxville. They really do set themselves apart from other chains. Their stores are cleaner, their bakery is far superior to other local chains, and I love their BOGO deals. This particular location is very nice. In addition to what other Publix stores have, this location also has a hot food bar and a little cafe. They have a great selection of vegan refrigerated and frozen food items. They also carry TVP, vital wheat gluten, various egg substitutes, etc. They have a large selection of herbs and produce that is always fresh. Their organic Greenwise line is very affordable. Let's start with something for tall people. I'm 6' with gigantic feet (like clown shoes). Because their carts are built to work on the escalator, the don't have the irritating platform on the bottom. I can walk quickly around the store without constantly kicking the cart. The store is organized and clean--always. They always have registers open instead of over-relying on self-service. I rarely have to seek out anybody to ask for help. They simply offer without ever being obtrusive. People. The people working there are amazing. They're friendly, personable, and I find myself looking forward to seeing many of them. Because it's a campus store, much of the staff is made up of working students which provides a different and refreshing sort of inflection to the store's atmosphere. There's nothing wrong with the other two Publix stores, but this location (especially the people) makes me super happy. read more

There is a lot of good in this place, but the stand out factor here has got to be the customer service. I seriously don't know where they find these people. They epitomize everything that has ever been taught in one of those super cheesy customer service training videos. Every single employee from the moment you walk in the door is friendly and eager to help. Who knows. Maybe they're Stepford people. The store itself is pristine and laid out in a fashion that makes your shopping easy. The meat is always fresh. The produce department is one of my favorites. Everything is so pretty and fresh. Don't forget to stop by the little kitchen near the produce department to taste whatever goodness they are whipping up that day! Oh, and check out their flyer. I have shopped at Publix for over 7 years while I lived in Florida. I recently moved to Knoxville and was excited to have a little piece of home shopping at my friendly, neighborhood Publix. Sadly, today I was shocked to have my **first EVER** unfriendly and rude interaction with an employee at Publix. I was incredibly disappointed because when I think about Publix, I usually think about the top-notch customer service and just how helpful and kind all the employees have always been. This is why I choose Publix over any other grocery store every time. As I was checking out, the employee bagging my groceries muttered something under his breath that I couldn't hear. I asked what he said, and he (in a highly aggressive tone) said, "I need you to move back 5 inches", paired with a glare that nobody would consider amicable. I was waiting for him to hand me my groceries because I didn't have a cart and was carrying them all myself (and obviously struggling to do so - I'm a small female & in the past, almost always a Publix employee would offer to grab me a cart or help me out to my car with my groceries as well). I was only standing close enough that I could reach out to accept my grocery bags from him - I clearly wasn't invading his personal space by any reasonable means (and abiding by social distancing). I was a bit confused so I just stood there for a second, and then he said, "Let me just give you some advice, Lady. Actually, nevermind I won't waste my time on you". I was too shocked and confused to even reply, grabbed my groceries, and left the store. The cashier seemed equally confused and just stared, but didn't say anything either to me or her co-worker. After today, I think I will have to try to get accustomed to another grocery store in the area, or at least travel to a different Publix location. I have never been more impressed with a grocery store! I went to Publix to buy ingredients for a recipe I found online, and everyone was so helpful! The store is clean and has an amazing selection. I found everything very easily in the store. The prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for. When I went to check out, one worker unloaded my groceries for me and put it all on the belt, and when I finished paying, the bag boy tried to help me take my bags out to my car. I've never had such amazing service at a store before. It's a little out of my way, but I will definitely be back! read more

As a house husband I enjoy the Publix treat from time to time. I first stop and enjoy a gelato. A nice beginning. There seems to be a manager available in every aisle to help you find things. I had a puzzled look on my face, as I often do, and was approached by the manager who asked if I needed help. I was looking for an obscure cracker called Crunchmasters , they are awesome and happen to be gluten free. Later while walking down another aisle, while eating a fresh made doughnut , " don't judge me", another manager type approached and asked if they could help with anything. Actually what I would have liked to ask for is a glass of milk to go with my doughnut. I am certain if I had asked for the milk a he would have gotten it for me. read more

There are three in Ktown: Turkey Creek near the wonderful Cork's Wine & Spirits; Northshore; and the newest at University Common. They really want our business as evidenced by how exceptionally friendly the staff is. Have found different items at each, particularly in the lamb section. I love this location of Publix. Despite my hesitancy to visit based upon the perception it would be total Hell to get in /out of the parking area due to location - it is a breeze. Seriously. They parking garage is spacious, never too crowded, and using Joe Johnson allows you to eliminate Cumbarland Ave. all together to get on/off the interstate. The store is, I guess, typical to the Publix model. It is clean and spacious and the selection of bakery items, produce, specialty meats and cheeses is great. I particularly recommend: (1)the multigrain sourdough baked in store; (2)getting your prosciutto from the deli counter vs. packaged (it is Boar's Head, and about 1/2 the price of the pre-packaged Boar's Head); (3) the Publix brand pizza dough (in the bakery section in a little fridge); and (4) get a sandwich made at the deli counter! you can pick from all of the meats and cheeses. I've always generally always liked going to this publix for groceries - it is easy to navigate and the employees are friendly. Their pharmacy on the other hand, DO NOT go to. Completely unprofessional and closed early. I went to try to pick up a prescription and was stuck in traffic and it was looking like I would get there about 2-3 min after it closed. So I called and asked if they would be willing to wait a few minutes after it closed and that I was stuck in traffic and would be there as soon as possible. The lady who answered the phone said she normally would but she had reservations. First off all it's completely unprofessional to tell a customer oh I have reservations did she expect me to say that's okay I don't need my prescription go ahead. And two, I don't know any job that gets off right at their scheduled closing time. Starbucks employees stay after the closing time to clean! I again said I would be there about 2 min after it closed at the latest and she said she would try to stay a few minute after. Well I run in there and get to the pharmacy at 5:03 and it's all locked up. So if she had truly stayed a few more minutes she'd still be there and even if she had kept it open till 5 when it was supposed to close, I can't imagine she would have everything locked up and be gone 3 min later. Seems to me she closed up early to get to her reservations. Completely unprofessional and will not be using this pharmacy again. Clearly this person cared more about her reservations than she did about a person getting their medication. read more
