This Kroger Store is located in the Providence Square Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. Since this Kroger is located in a shopping center, it isn't hard to find. My most recent visit here was on January 1, 2026. With this business being in a shopping center, parking was plentiful and didn't have any issues finding a place to park. I don't normally come to this area of the city often. I was here after visiting a business for breakfast, as I try to go to a new to me place every year on January 1st. One thing I noticed up front from the outside is that this looks to be an older location. The storefront and such doesn't look as updated as some of the other locations in the area. The functionality of the store overall is the same as the other locations. My mom and I came in to get some things while we were in that area. This would save us a trip to another place closer to home, so it was convenient in this instance. The inside of the store does look a bit dated, but they had the same general setup that you would expect at any Kroger location. One big difference here was that the staff were quick to ask us what we were looking for, even though we may not have been entirely sure. This was the case with any staff member we interacted with here. With the layout of the store being similar to other locations, the shopping trip didn't take as long we thought it might, since things tend to move around at each location. They were fully stocked on this visit too, which is something I don't always see. The prices are the same as other locations in the area from my experience. Overall, what made this place a better experience was the fact that the staff were proactive at asking us as customers to let us know what we were looking for and how they could help us in our shopping. This is something to this day that I don't see much of any longer. If you're in this part of the city and looking to get groceries and such, this place is a solid option to choose from. read more

I don't go into Kroger often because I get overwhelmed by crowds. But I wanted to look for ice cream, so I found myself amidst the Kroger chaos!! Lol. The inside was just as crowded as the parking lot. I made my way to the ice cream section where they had a nice amount of ice cream options. But some of those ice cream containers were freezer burnt and icy. Like they've been there for centuries!! I do like that the Kroger brand is pretty cheap and had several flavors. The freezer section has select spots that looked like Antarctica. What in the ice age hell is going on? It's at all the Krogers I've been too. Turn the freezer down y'all!! Lol. The store had a good amount of items and the shelves were stocked. Their meat prices were a little steep on some things. $15 per lb for sandwich meat is something I'm still trying to get used to. But the quality seemed good. I found some big back chicken in the hot and ready section. I didn't feel like cooking so, this was the way to go. The chicken breast were pretty gargantuan in size. The breading was good. The meat inside was slightly bland but I used sauce and it worked out. I'd definitely get the chicken again. It looked appealing also. You'll find clearance items scattered throughout the store. They have a deli and nice bakery inside, as well as a sushi section. I like this Kroger. Check them out!!! read more

The lady at the bakery Wednesday night around 5 PM was so rude to me for no reason. I stood there for about five minutes while she actively ignored me and then I addressed her saying can I ask you a question and she said "what do you want" with an attitude. Then I asked if she could decorate my cake and she rudely answered no before turning away and ignoring me again I'm not normally one to complain however, a simple hey I'm sorry we can't do it right now would've been enough and to not be ignored would've been great. Whoever is running this spot is doing a poor job. Always boxes everywhere waiting to be stocked just sitting in the isles, blocking everything. This spot hasn't had Kroger brand coffee creamer in the dairy section since before Thanksgiving. I don't know if they've heard, but the supply chain issues during Covid have been resolved. You can order things again when you run out. If the Kroger on Holland can have a fully stocked creamer section, they can too. The only reason I gave them a 2 is because they do have a decent meat section with pretty good discounts. Get your act together Providence. read more

The great part about this Kroger is the employees. The rest is all kind of meh. From the layout that is always changing and chaos to the feel of the store that doesn't feel clean. I only come to this Kroger when I need something in a hurry because it's so disorganized. Also, they also always seem to be out of stock of basic things or in the process of unpacking merchandise. I think the issue is lack of staffing, but it just feels dirty in this location. It is also smaller, so harder to navigate with heavy shopping traffic. Parking is a pain because of the way it's built and there aren't always multiple checkout options open. Self checkout is always crowded because of other lanes not being open. I also feel like produce quality is a bit less than ideal here and lack of meat variety. So, it's a quick stop or last resort. Never our go to Kroger. read more

I had to ask for help finding the commercial bread aisle after walking to and fro. But for those who shop here often and know where everything is, that probably isn't such a big deal. Every Single Time I go here they are out of everything!! Went 6/20/21 & they had nothing but MOLD!!! No Cilantro No Strawberries No Tots Apple Juice No Gatorade No Fresh Corn No Frozen Corn Old Lemons No Buns, hamburger or hotdog They're always out of ALL BUNS. The meat department was fully stocked. I couldn't get milk for the toddler bc the milk IS FULL OF MOLD! I'll post pictures. Mold ALL THROUGHOUT THE STORE! I've been a mngr before and idk how this mngr accepts the way this is?!?! I completely understand the times we are in and the lack of staff but the mold is unacceptable. ESPECIALLY when every time I visit there's employees in the dairy area stocking shelves. This falls on the employees for not caring enough about their job and the mngr for not stepping up! So sad. If you have time to fill the yogurts and milk, you have time to clean the mold from the milk shelves. So disappointed. Hope they step up. read more

I like the concept of Kroger fuel centers but this particular location is not as nice as other area Kroger gas stations I've used. It operates the same way as the others with a nice modern facility and a friendly professional attendant should you want to pay cash, buy tobacco products or otherwise want to interface with an actual human being. My major complaint with this station is that it's just plain too small. If it's a busy time this place is just a jumbled mess. If the all the pumps are being used to fuel vehicles it's easy to get blocked in and not be able to exit the premises without waiting for another customer to finish fueling and pull their vehicle out of the way. Sometimes you can back out of your space but if there's a vehicle waiting behind your car you're just screwed because there isn't usually enough room to pass between vehicles at the pumps in front of you. My best advice is to avoid this location if you are in a hurry or it's a busy time of day with lots of people trying to fuel their automobiles. read more

I don't even want to give them one star. I was accosted by a strange man in this store by the pharmacy. This man started yelling at me and walked up to me and put his foot in front of my cart so I couldn't go anywhere and got in my face, yelling at me some more. This may not be Krogers fault but if he works there it becomes their fault. Some strange man come up and tries to hold me in place by putting his foot down in front of cart the cart I was pushing and there isn't anything criminal about what he did. I donthing so. I shop here frequently. Never had an issue. ALWAYS kind people, GREAT service. Today was different. I had shopped yesterday and purchased the wrong item. Light, instead of regular, miracle whip. All I wanted to do was exchange it. It had not been opened. The lady in customer service was rude from the beginning. "Where was my receipt? As she was looking for the expiration date, she asked did I know where it was on the jar?" As if I was exchanging an old outdated item. As I walked to pick up the item I needed to exchange, and purchase a few things, I was more put off by her crummy and accusing tone. I mean seriously, what was I trying to accomplish? Steal something by exchanging it? When I told her I just went ahead and paid for it and that I really didn't care for her accusing tone... she actually argued with me; from behind the desk! I live two mins from this store but drive a lot farther to the Holland or Battlefield locations because this store is just so bad , never have anything instock and no registers open , I gave up on this store a while ago , then a couple weeks ago I was in a hurry so decided to try this store again because it is so close , halfway through I had to walk out most of the items I needed were out , put everything I had back and left , and went to another store later . Now I only needed just one item so I went back and the lines were so long , one register open and the self check out had 5 of the 6 registers in need of assistance with a dozen more people waiting , so I gave up again . I usually shop at the Holland Road Super Kroger Store, however, this particular Kroger Store is much closer to me. I am posting this because for the most part the employees at this store are very helpful and customer oriented. However, the other day I experienced an employee, by the name of Sherman, who works in the Meat/Seafood department. When asked questions, he came across as if he was being bothered to have to serve you. In fact, I believe he was simply rude and uncaring. He should not be in the customer service position. They should simply stick him in the rear of the store and handle stock and where he won't have to deal with customers... Bottom line: He doesn't have the personality nor the tact to deal with customers. read more

My first time ever in this store. I have always heard such great things about this place. Many couponers love this place. As soon as I saw the name my eyes lit up. I was only visiting for a short trip but, I sure wish that I had my coupons with me. The store was large and well stocked. Very clean store. The variety was amazing. When they tore down the old BP gas station I was worried because that left only one gas station in the area, since the Shell station recently turned into a bank. When I saw that they had totally rebuilt the BP station as a new Kroger station I was very happy. I love being able to gain Kroger fuel points in the same shopping center and then drive over and get a much cheaper tank of gas. The new station is very clean, very modern and the attendant is friendly and helpful. read more

This Kroger is centrally located as well because Kempsville Road and Providence Road are right across from the Fairfield Shopping Center and has several restaurants nearby. I like that Navy Federal's on the other side as well. I tend to think of Kroger when I want fresh or frozen seafood but today I arrived just as they had hot chicken coming out. I had the 8 piece baked in my hands but it was so hot I had to find a cart to keep from burning myself while holding it. It was on a flat tray and looked a little dark but not burned too badly. I ended up with the 8 piece fried chicken and this was the first time I didn't like it. The wings were tiny and that's my favorite part of the chicken...one looked deformed and the other had the white spots like raw flour. I'd seen that at Harris Teeter quite a bit, as I mentioned in my review. I've been on a quest for good fried chicken. Usually I'll go through a period of craving a type of food and try to find the best tasting selection possible. It's hard to give this Kroger a 3 because it's really more like a 2 1/2. You can stumble onto a good deal on the dairy products...usually good prices on milk and eggs. read more

Starting with the positives. This is my go to store and I do 80% of my shopping there. The produce guys are always helpful and there are generally enough checkout lanes open that you don't wait a long time. The few negatives I have are minor. They did a "remodel" but it didn't really make things nicer or brighter. I also wish they had a small seating area so I could go through the digital coupons and maybe get a beverage. read more

I am hoping that they will be caught by the corporate and stop this stupidity and hurting the sales of the store. This is my go-to spot. Great parking. Convenient shopping center. Kroger has a nice selection of produce. Always check dates and for freshness. Sometimes items that are close to expiration are left on the shelves, but overall they do a pretty good job. I like the organic/specialty isle. They have a lot of gluten free options, if you need that sort of thing. The bakery counter is standard. I don't like some of the specialty brands of breads they tend to stock. The Signature Selection loaves tend to be delicious, but I never see a good selection of them in stock. It's usually hit and miss that they will have what I want. The seafood and butcher cases are nice as well. They have good specials. Every time I'm there I swing by to check them out. I wish they did a better job of keeping the soft drink isle stocked. Some of their generic brands always seem to be sold out. And this location is super at keeping the right number of registers open for a speedy checkout! I used to go to Farm Fresh on Indian River. Amen for remodels! This store really was kind of a dump before. They have done a 180 in my opinion. They have expanded everything. The deli is great, they now h e Boars Head meats and cheeses. They have expanded the organics section which I love. The even added a salad bar, sushi bar and hot bar for lunch. It's nice to have this option for lunch since I work around the corner. The store has the best prices on non-organic gallon milk around! The bathrooms are always dirty. The deli is amazing, quick, professional and the only place I've seen that sells head cheese. The freezer section tbh is hit or miss. The organics are intertwined at times with the non-organics (mostly veggies). In that aspect I'll stick with Whole Foods or a local farmers market. read more

I have lived in this area for years, but was put off by the one time I did visit this location. The FLOOR. That's right! The floor is an eyesore. It looks like it hasn't been updated since the building was constructed. Other than the floor, the store is fairly clean given the age of the building. It could use some revamping. I have to admit that it is one of the places that I do a great deal of shopping because of the selection of items that they carry. They boast a lot more organic produce and foods than most other standard grocers. They also have a better selection of gluten-free products that you don't find at other grocers and mostly specialty grocers. Their prices are relatively low and comparable to Food Lion or even better. I confess that I will drive the extra few miles to shop at the new location on Holland because of the quantity of items and cleanliness. Mostly I try to stay closer to home and this store would be it. read more

This is down the street from me and I moved here recently. I was spoiled by the Kroger's on battlefield Blvd! I have had nothing but good experiences here however the building does need some updating and the gas station is in a difficult location and hard to get to. I love the Kroger stores! I just came from this Kroger. Picked up (apparently) 24 items. No one was at one of the registers, so I went. Didn't even realize that it was about 15 items or less. The cashier, Jackie (male), did not say hello or anything for that matter. I was talking to him and he never said anything back to me. I just thought he was having a bad day. Upon handing me my receipt, Jackie proceeded to "scold" me about coming to a lane that was 15 items. There was no one behind me at all and I didn't realize it was 15 items. He told me that next time I come I had to go to a different lane...which is fine. But, I really dont think I will sacrifice being disrespected in order to shop for convenience. I will not be returning to that store. Too many other places to shop around here. He didn't say it in a nice way, he was plain rude to me. I'm too old for that crap. read more

I actually like this Kroger, but this review is specific to the deli and salad bar, which I understand is to be set up at 11am. I have a window for lunch and have arrived at 11:30 and 11:45 and again at 11:45 and it hasn't been set up, so after the third time, I decided to write a review. When I spoke to someone at customer service, they just told me someone was "back there in deli." Not as helpful a response as it could have been. There was no visible management to speak to, and when I've asked at the deli, they get to it eventually but it takes another 15 min to set it up after asking about it. read more

WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES EVER! Notice experiences is plural for more than one time. If I could give less than one star, I would. Many times you have to bag your groceries and cashiers are very rude! Last night I had a small cart of stuff to check out and went to the only cashier open. Cashier was talking with 2 others, one being a supervisor. All of my items were placed on the table as the 3 of them were watching me and continued talking, and I waited for a cashier. After a few minutes, I said to the 3 of them, that were standing inches away from this register, if they could start ringing up my items. This supervisor said they were in the middle of something and continued talking with the other 2. I interrupted them again and said the light on the register was on and you were looking right at me as I was putting my stuff up so I need for someone to check me out. She started making excuses, and I repeated myself. Cashier, very moody started ringing me up. Then as this supervisor walks away, she says that I don't have to be so nasty about it. The cashier said she was talking to the other 2 about doing 2 jobs at once, let me guess what that second job, bagging? I guess if you force them to work and provide any remnants of customer service, that's being nasty with them. Would highly recommend using Food Lion that is across the street, they act like they are on a commission on how great they treat their customers, carts are always ready up front, cashiers are nice, on top of the cashiers bagging your stuff, they also put them in the cart for you. I guess with Kroger being union, the most that this supervisor would get is a slap on the wrist. Bad service. read more

If Kroger is trying to help out their competition by running off business, this location is exemplary. I have watched this location begin a steady decline in a multitude of areas over the past few years. And according to the other recent reviews, I'm not the only one. I can't remember the last time I walked into this store and saw fully stocked shelves - down nearly every aisle are empty holes where products should be, yet aren't. On several occasions, I have found myself trying to navigate my way around stacked palates to get back to the milk or down the chip aisle. Employees are few and far between and those that are actually present, are typically too busy talking to work or they're just flat out rude. Few registers are open, regardless of the time or day, which subsequently backs up the self checkout lanes like crazy. And you will always have to bag your own groceries. If you have a choice, don't bother with this Kroger, it's disapointing. read more
