Atmosphere - A diner with a maybe 8 bar stools to sit at the counter, about the same number of booths with a handful of standalone tables. I will ding them for the booth we sat in as the one bench had a big rip in it. It did not even have a patch job of some duct tape on it, just a huge gaping hole. Who would want to sit there? But I was surprised to see a sign for Food Network for the best place to eat in the 50 states for breakfast, I posted a picture of it. Food Appetizer - I had to Knoephla soup. It became addicted to this while living in Grand Forks ND while going to college. The menu described it as a seasoned hamburger patty wrapped in dough and deep fried. The outside of the dough was flaky while the inside was moist. Dessert - We spilt a milk shake for dinner, they offer a lot of flavors and we mixed two of them. The cappuccino and caramel mixed with that ice cream topped with whipped cream made for a perfect sweet treat. Service - Greeted when we entered and told to sit were we wanted. I waitress was prompt and friendly and food was timed perfectly and had little wait time between the appetizer and main course. This place is the bee's knees! I've had several dishes from all over the menu and have been satisfied with every one. The breakfasts are absolutely spectacular, especially the German skillet. If someone's hunger meter is pegged out, the six egg omelette is one way to satisfy. Additionally, the staff is kind and prompt. Yoooo, this place is SO GOOD. We're from Minnesota and we came here for my moms second job. We were going to go to Denny's and I decided to go here. Damn, did I choose well! We got Claire as a waitress and my mom said she's the best server she's gotten. (My moms been a waitress for over 25 years) wow! I got the rhubarb caramel roll and it was AMAZING! Fun laid back location. Staff are down to earth and friendly. Not a corporate contrived atmosphere, simply good people serving good food. Expect tasty food that is going to blow any calorie calculators mind so just leave that at home. I had the Cajun Burger melt. Good flavour. Great spice. Average size and a bit greasy. I stumbled upon this diner while taking a detour with my boyfriend. This place is amazing! It has this really nice classical feel that you see in the movies. The portions are really great. Not too pricey. Shakes and floats are delicious! We also had phenomenal customer service!! I can't remember her name but she was really awesome and interacted with her customers really well! I'm really glad I found this place. I don't live here, but I sure do plan on coming back next time :). read more

The building is reminiscent of "The Diner" . So of course I had to order a malt shake with my meal. It was delicious. The breakfast french toast filled the plate- so warm, greaseless, and airy. I will definitely want to return to select a German entree. My complaint was that our waiter was too young and inexperienced. I had to ask him for silverware, ketchup, and our bill was full of pen scribbles/corrections and difficult to read. The food is amazing and worth the small distractions. read more

They have the best milk shakes in town. Hands down. I go here quite often and there was only one occasion where the service was not great. That's why I gave a 4 star. We spotted this place as were headed for our next sightseeing stop. It looked like a fun place, built like an old fashioned diner. When we were done being tourists, we found our back for dinner. My mom ordered a salad. It was huge, with a large variety of ingredients. I ordered off their German selection of foods. I can't pronounce any of it, but I sure could taste it, and it was delicious! It's located easily accessible off the highway. If you're in Minot, stop in and give them a try. Two more stops nd always find the Sercice friendly and the food flavorful and hot is hot and cold is cold. Diners are great to keep when they are good like this one. I have driven by this place several times. I finally stopped for lunch one day and it was well worth the time. When I walked in it was like I was walking into the past. A vintage diner just like the ones that I used to go to as a child. The only thing missing was the Jukebox at the tables. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The food was incredible especially the soup. Portions were large and were served hot. I totally recommend this place. read more

Two stars only because the food was great!! This was by far the worst dining experience I've ever had. Our waitress was obviously unhappy to have to serve the only African Americans in the restaurant. We had to wait about 10 for her to greet us another 15 mins for an oj. Two tables came after us but all of them were served before us and treated with great respect. Its very sad that people like our waitress still exists. It's diner food, so don't expect fine dining, but it is really good for a diner. It's also a chain; but it's a family owned chain and at least at this location they do seem to take pride in their work. (I haven't visited other Krolls to compare) The atmosphere is pleasant, it's a modernized version of a 50's or 60s style diner car (read as: cleaner and with more signs, photos and memorabilia on the walls) The food selection is about what you would expect from a diner; the usual list of breakfast omelets, burgers, sandwiches and a few complete meals. But the quality is on the higher end for a diner, the breakfasts are well done (one of the options is a fresh made sausage) and a hearty portion size. I've eaten here a few times and the best things on the menu tend to be the German inspired dishes (I won't even attempt to spell them, but you won't have a hard time figuring out what I'm talking about). I can't tell you if they are authentic, but they certainly are pretty tasty. We've definitely tried to make this a regular stop for breakfast or lunch; for whatever reason I don't quite find the place as attractive an option for dinner. That could just be me though, the type of food they serve there just strikes me as lunch (though some of the portions are big for a lunch). Not that it really matters, the entire menu is available all day long so you can any type of meal they serve so long as they are open. I've been happy to go there at 9 am and order a burger and onion rings (which are really good) and than go back at 8pm and order an omelet. If I have one complaint its that some of the food runs towards slightly bland, but this is easily solved with a dose of black pepper at the table which really brings out the flavors in their soups and sauces. Than again I've seen that issue before with German cuisine at other restaurants so maybe it's just my palette's response to German food; it just seems to need a touch more pepper no matter where I get it. read more

Really cool old school diner with the stainless steel exterior and classic diner interior. The service was good immediately the waitress was at the table in a second with hot coffee and water. Good, greasy, home cooked breakfast. I heard that it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives show that is on the Travel Channel (?). I haven't seen that episode of the show but I am guessing they featured the Knoephla's. I have never heard of knoephla before going here but they looked pretty good to me. This Krolls is a joke waited over a for hour food. So we decided to leave. The waitress was rude when asked about the wait. Repeatedly told us for 20 minutes that our food is up, but she doesn't know why they haven't brought it out yet. She told us this as she brought the food out for a larger group of people that showed up 20 minutes after we ordered. She brought orders out for multiple other patrons some of which finished there food and were paying as we walked out. Never going to this Krolls again. It's sad because in the 10 years I've been eating at Krolls across the US I've never had service like this. read more

I was so excited to see that Minot has an authentic 50's style diner! I realized only once I travelled to Bismarck that Kroll's Diner is a chain, but I will still be coming back for more! There was a brochure advertising how good the onion rings are, and since they are one of my boyfriend's favorite foods, naturally we had to order them. They were perfectly crispy and excellent with ranch! Looking at the menu, I initially was going to order something "american" and what is typically served at a diner... but then my boyfriend pointed out the weekly specials on the menu, and there was a whole flap in the menu of german-inspired meals! I can't even remember the name of what I had, but it was sauerkraut, keilbalsa sausage, red potatoes, red onions, and spaetzle (dumplings) all sauteed together. Served with a side of peas with pearl onions, it was FANTASTIC! Service was great, and LOVED the 50's diner atmosphere.. they are authentic all the way down to the vinyl cushions. It just seemed to sparkle with awesomeness. I will definitely be back... I need to see if their milkshakes are any good! read more

This place is an average small diner. It is nothing fancy. It has OK food and a really cool retro atmosphere. It is a small space so if there are a lot of people it will feel crowded. I had the Frisco Burger. It was okay, but it paled in comparison with a Steak n' Shake Frisco Melt, so unfortunately that was all I was thinking about while eating it. read more

This small diner has a very classic feel to it. I came here on a recommendation from a friend during a business trip and was not dissatisfied. Extremely friendly staff; I was tended to immediately, and was not ignored by anyone, though the place was fairly busy. I'd strongly suggest coming to try the Knoephla soup. It's delicious. The shakes were a nice touch too. Even got a to-go cup. I'll be visiting here again next time I'm in town. read more

Service and the milkshake I got to go was great, which is why I gave it 3 stars. Food was okay at best. Me being from the south might play part of that. The gravy had that bland out of a can taste, the sausage tasted more like some kind of pork jerky , and still wondering if the biscuits wasn't made with pancake batter, they were thin and sweet and kinda smelled like a pancake. Luckily the eggs and hash browns was good. After hearing some of the other customers saying how good this and that was, I am willing to give it another shot. Was very impressed with this family friendly diner: cleaner, affordable and the food, wow. The German dumpling soup called Knoephia was heavenly. My special came with a very generous portion. I had a bacon cheeseburger that was yummy as well. My fellow diner ordered chocolate chip pancakes. They were the size of a plate and very yummy.
