Annual scone contest where you get 6 creations and vote for what you liked the most!
    Kaitlin R.

It is hard to find decent coffee in Minot, ND, but this is the best local place I have found. Located in the heart of downtown, this lovely corner store bakes fresh bread, makes scones, offers sandwiches and soup, and has Friday night pizza night. This locally owned coffee shop also offers a plethora of coffee options as well as daily and weekly breads. Alternative milk is available and there also are seasonal drinks. The seating area reminds me of a typical local shop with older furniture. There are big windows for natural light, and also large windows for customers to watch the bread and other food items. In the summer, there is a decent sized patio with picnic tables and other outdoor seating on the sidewalk. One of the fun events they do is a scone contest in July. You can buy 6 scones that are unique recipes, created by employees. The community can vote for which one is best! I recommend going here if you want to try local coffee. Staff are friendly and helpful. We have had several items take a very long time to be prepared and have had most drinks come out inaccurately. Just be aware and let them know if your drink isn't what you ordered, and they are pretty good about remaking it.

    Pumpkin Scone

Back in October, I finally came around to trying this restaurant for lunch. They have unique menu items as well as homemade and seasonal drinks. Located in the heart of downtown and right across from my partner's apartment, we finally got around to trying Prairie Sky Breads for lunch. Walking in, the atmosphere was inviting. It didn't take me long to notice that this establishment is all-inclusive, woohoo! They also contain vegetarian/vegan options, so that was another plus. My partner and I decided to order the choose two option so we could try one of their sandwiches as well as a soup. I decided to order the seasonal vegan chili, pumpkin scone and a hot pumpkin spice latte. The chili was amazing! Seasoned very well and every bite was full of flavor. As for the pumpkin scone and latte, Starbucks can step aside because Prairie Sky Breads' scone and latte take the prize. Their baked goods were deliciously savory and delightful. After all, their baked goods are baked in store. The dining area of the restaurant is right next to their in-store bakery, and you can see the bakers in there baking up the day's batches! As for their pumpkin lattes, they don't use those artificially flavored syrups, they use their very own pumpkin purèe. Their pumpkin purèe is house-made with house-made whip and powdered spices, and as I was drinking my latte, I was able to sip thin pieces of pumpkin with every gulp (so satisfying!). The prices are decent, and although I no longer live in Minot, I recommend to anybody in the area.

Triple Berry Scone & an Iced Oat Milk Latte

Not sure why it took me so long to visit this place, but I'm glad I finally stopped in. I ordered a triple berry scone (Note: I chose one from the day old shelf to save a little money and it was still fresh and delicious.) and an Iced Oat milk latte. Both were fantastic. I'm pretty particular about lattes, I would say this is the best one I've had in Minot. Loved the decor and vibe of the bakery as well as the fast & friendly service. I definitely recommend this place.

Love the Sunday breakfast pizza and cold brew! The Carmel roll was not my favorite but they have the best breakfast pizza around.

The Black Iguana is a coffee shop within a country-centennial vibey store. I really do like pistachios and the frappe flavor was something new for me. I'm all about getting out of my warm, secure, comfort zone and trying new foods, drinks, events...The barista was so friendly with a cute smile and also said the pistachio frappe was her favorite. And the frappe tasted how I imagined it would, delish!!! Recommend: Pistachio Frappe (I ordered mine with almond milk cause I lack toes but the pistachio powder is dairy based, FYI for the plant based).

I accidentally stumbled on the coffee counter when I went in to browse. This is something I don't usually do, so I knew it was meant to be. While I did try a latte that my husband bought, and was very good, it was the tea that caught my heart. The staff are attentive, we are half syrup people, otherwise it's simply too sweet for us. They were more than happy to adjust, which is awesome. I can't believe I've been driving by this place for years without knowing it was there. As long as you're in the Main St area, pop in a few stores, never know what you'll find!

Atmosphere - So this Caribou Coffee is inside of Market Place grocery store.  Seems to be the norm now to have a coffee shop inside a grocery store. What makes this one a bit different is that it has a drive up window.  Normally I would not rate a drive thru but this one was very weird.  What is weird is that the drive up window is on the front side of the grocery store.  There is no wrapping around the building.  On a busy day the cars block people from going into and from the grocery, which it has happened to me.  Just weird, like I want to dodge cars waiting to get their coffee with my loaded grocery cart. My Drink - I am simple, I drink black coffee at home.  So my crazy treat for myself at a chain coffee place is a large hot mocha .  I rather sit inside, sip my coffee from a mug.  But with COVID and the time constraint I used the drive thru.  Nothing special  about the mocha, it was a little sweeter than I like. Service - It is what you expect from a drive thru, fast and accurate. Future - Probably for a liquid morning treat.

We had a flaky pastry with cheese and egg - excellent and not too heavy! We also had their last caramel cream filled crumpet - also excellent and it is filled so plan how you eat it. Everything else looked so good, including their bakery bread, that I wanted one of each but was pretty sure that would not have worked traveling. The place was nothing special (yet) but it was clean and had cute tables and chairs as well as counter seating for when it gets busier. It also had parking around the building AND a drive through window (for those familiar with the bakery choices or just wanting a beverage). I was not in on the initial encounter with the counter person but my husband wasn't thrilled with the interaction. Not sure which side of the counter the breakdown occurred but it is true that she didn't smile or seem to want to be there and was a bit curt when asked to warm our egg pastry. The manager stepped in immediately to make sure our pastry was warmed in an oven for a minute. (They, THANKFULLY don't use microwaves which was fine by me.) It was perfect. If ever I'm in Minot, I'll make a point of coming here with a much bigger appetite!

You absolutely cannot show up an hour before close and expect a full case, or even that day's lunch offer, (which I never order anyway.) Personally, I love that for 2 reasons: less food waste & it motivates you to get there before they run out. With that out of the way, on to the "good stuff" & I do mean that both literally & figuratively. I'll note they are listed as French pastries, this is important, as it sets an expectation comparatively to, say, the local donut shop/ the other "bread (pastry) shop" - &, they are very different styles, indeed. Humble brag moment, International traveler here & I've had the pleasure of some amazing pastries. These guys do fit the French-style that they're boasting about. They made a solid almond croissant & have some tasty savory rotations, as well as sweet. Their crepes are my favorite eat-out breakfast item in town. They offer both sweet & savory options, another bonus, as I'm a savory gal. In short, i probably don't go here as often as I should
