Visiting relatives in the small town of Dallastown and there are not a lot of food options so I was quite surprised to hear of a Thai Restaurant. I live in Hawaii where we have many Thai restaurants to chose from and I must say that this is right up there with them. The veggies were fresh and not overcooked, the sauces were perfectly seasoned. I took someone who never had Thai and she got the Drunken noodles and is now looking forward to introducing her husband to Thai cuisine. the decor is simple, clean and new. Weird, I could've sworn I already reviewed Krua Thai. *shrug* Well, it is still as awesome as it was the first time I stopped. I've eaten here nearly a hundred times now and I've never been dissatisfied. The portioning is generous, the staff is very friendly and attentive and the food is excellent. Really out of this world. It's tough for me when I visit though; I am always torn between my three favorite dishes - pad ka pow kai dow (ground chicken and vegetables with egg), drunken noodles or hot basil fried rice. OMG I love the food here finally found a better Tai restaurant than Essan and I don't have to dive in the city to get to it. Very nice family owned atmosphere completely remodeled the inside if your on the fence about which Tai restaurant to go to you can't go wrong here we loved there Thom Kai Chicken coconut soup and the dumplings the chicken skewers with the peanut sauce were also a hit. This was my first time here and also only my second time having thai food. I had the pig belly which was phenomenal! I also had some dumplings. My wife had spring rolls and chicken satay. She said it was best she had yet. The service was great. This is obviously a family owned business because their kid was here running around also, which was quite entertaining. The owner loves to talk sports and was very polite! I would have given 5 stars but, as adorable as it was with their kid coming to the table, it got to be a little annoying when your trying to have a conversation. No. Just... no. My husband and I came here tonight for dinner and the food was awful. My husband ordered the Hot Basil Fried Rice, which was neither hot nor basil-y. My daughter ordered the "Me Hungry", but only ate one chicken stick because she didn't like it. Worst of all was my drunken noodles. I'm vegan, and ordered my dish as such, just as I have at every Thai restaurant in York County. What I received was absolutely flavorless. It literally tasted like water with the most vague hint of spice. When I say flavorless, I mean it. There was no basil, no salt, no pepper, not even soy sauce. I wanted to laugh, but I was also slightly irritated. One of the waiters asked out the food was, and my husband said, "it's... ok..." and we proceeded to explain that my dish was void of any taste. The waiter apologized, said he would speak to the kitchen, and that was it. No offer to re-make it, no offer to choose something else, they didn't remove it from the bill, nothing. Since we were obviously expected to pay in full, we took it home. I'm hoping I can throw it all in a pan and make it taste alright. For $46 plus tip (which I honestly wouldn't have given, but my husband paid, not me) we'd better be able to. Bottom line -- if you want GOOD Thai food, you won't find it here. We went to Krua Thai last night for dinner. It was our second time, and our friend's first. When we entered at 6:45, we were the only ones there. Of course, that caused some doubt in our friends minds... Hard to believe a restaurant that serves food this good, was empty on a Friday night! Well.... they are believers now! Yes, this place is not as organized as some. The lack of "professionalism" is actually refreshing. They are just good people trying to make a living serving incredible Thai food. We started with a few appetizers. Spring rolls, fried dumplings and chicken satay. All 3 were really good, with the dumplings and the spring rolls being the best. For meals, my wife had the Krua Thai Fried Rice and I had the Drunken Noodles. Our friends ordered the Krua Fried Rice with Basil and one of the curry dishes. I ordered the drunken noodles 1.5x Thai spicy. When I was there the last time, I asked for Thai spicy. The difference between thai spicy and 1.5 thai spicy is pretty substantial. It definitely lit up my mouth! The curry dish my friend's wife had also contained some fire. I had a few bites of the Krua Fried rice with Basil. That was not ordered with extra spice, but it did have a little kick as well. This restaurant is BYOB. We took in a bottle of wine and some sake. They provided wine opener and glasses. Obviously, this is a great way to save some money on drinks! All in all, 4 of us ate 3 apps and 4 entrees for $82 plus tip. You really can't complain about that! The portions were large enough that we each took home a snack at very minimum. In fact, you may as well say it was two meals worth of food. By the time we finished, there were a few other tables that came in. I am writing this review to do what I can to help generate more business for them. It's just me being selfish however! I need to make sure they build their business so I can continue to get great thai food this close to our house. We have two great restaurants, Great American Saloon and Krua Thai that are just down Queen St. On a Friday night, I surely have no interest in fighting traffic to get down to East Market St when I have such good choices so conveniently located! Thought it was closed when I walked in at 6pm on a Saturday because it was so empty. Expected it to have a few more people in it with the amount of positive Yelp reviews it had. The service was good, and my server was very friendly. The kitchen was really quick as well. My entree came out almost immediately after my appetizer had arrived. As for the food, it was okay. I had the Red Curry and the person with me had the drunken noodles. There was not a lot of flavor to the curry other than the heat. The drunken noodles, which were ordered without fish sauce still tasted a bit fishy. Seriously! Was the best Thai food in the area! This restaurant is cute and in a slightly weird venue (an old bank) but don't let the exterior fool you! The food was delicious! They were out of the fried calamari, which one of our party ordered, but did not inform us until the other appetizers were served. The server told me the noodles wouldn't be too spicy, and I told her spice them up. Boy, the chef did! They were awesome with a perfect amount of spice. The summer rolls had fresh vegetables, noodles cooked with just the right texture and very tasty tofu, (and I'm not a fan of tofu.) The sauce with the summer rolls was a nice combination of sweet and sour. We got the Thia chicken wings as an appetizer. The mango sauce gave the wings a sugary crispy coating, and they weren't these minuscule wings served at every bar in York. These things had some meat. The place is byob for wine and beer, so bring your favorite bottle or brew. Also, the people who work there will welcome you like a long lost friend. We just had a great lunch here. We started with sharing the larb salad then had pad thai with shrimp and drunken noodles with tofu, all of which was very tasty. We stopped in on opening night. Other Thai restaurants in the area have spiciness to match the Pennsylvania Dutch taste. Krua Thai delivers the authentic spice level. I did not have to ask for extra spice. The red curry was a blend of coconut, red pepper, Thai basil, and baby lettuce leaves; very nicely prepared. Thom Yum Soup had plenty of lemongrass and pucker. Royal Krua Thai Curry had green bean, summer squash and shrimp - well prepared. Both dinners normally came with 2 stars of spice. We ordered 3 stars, and both had a full blend of pepper flavors at the top of the heat level that we normally seek. Great flavors, shrimp dinners $16, soup $6. The down side was opening night service issues. We stopped to talk to the owner after dinner to indicate that improvements were needed in service. My dining companions had chicken green curry and drunken noodles and they each loved their dishes too. There was hardly anything left on our plates! Next time I would love to try the spicy basil fried rice.
