Inside the fireplace, grout had all but disappeared on the back / angled wall and several fire bricks were loose. Timeline of events: Sent an email to Ben with pictures and a description of the problem on a Friday at 3:12 PM. He called me at 5:15 PM that evening asking if he could visit to see the job and offer me an estimate, he came by at 5:44 PM, and after reviewing and carefully describing the work needed to repair, he offered his proposal which I accepted. AND the VERY NEXT DAY, a SATURDAY mind you, he and his son arrived at 8:00 AM and the job was completed by 3:00 PM. So literally WITHIN 24 HOURS Ben The Mason had responded to my request, came by to see the job, offered a quote, and did the repairs. The entire experience exceeded my expectations, and I am very impressed with the service and craftsmanship provided by Ben The Mason. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Next up, we have to discuss price. I've done only a handful of projects, so this is hard for me to judge. But, when I see the work and look at the amount of hours he puts in and the quality of the work, it seems extremely fair and I'm guess extremely competitive. If you think a price is too high, discuss it with him. He and you can work something out...or not. I've worked with him three times and will do so again. That leaves quality as next factor. No one is better. He built a patio from huge pavers that have not moved, shifted, cracked, or drained poorly. We get numerous positive comments. Ben is a polite, clean, professional man that gets to it. I do not believe you will find anyone around who is as fast, affordable, and adept. His sons are great too.

Eligio proposed several materials and adjusted them in line with the specific features we were looking for. We wanted a surface that would be both stable under the specific conditions (directly up against the foundation of our house and next to the sloping retaining wall, but also more porous than the asphalt. Eligio and his crew did a meticulous job to make sure the ground was properly regraded to improve water flow away from the house while making the surface more porous (hence the wider spacing between the cobblestones. He also adapted the design so I could have some planting space between the wall and the cobble stone. We were impressed with the crew's diligence and efficiency. Given the particular challenges and materials we were looking for, I consider the price to have been very fair.

Chris did a fine job redoing a brick walkway that was mired by dips, broken curbing and an…read moreunsecured border. I would not have believed what a difference it made! All the bricks were pulled up and the highest standards used to reset and set brick. A cement curbing under the brick not only secured brick but provided a means for directing run off water. The brick was also power washed. (Unfortunately, other remodeling elsewhere created dust and dirt on brick afterwards but that will be hosed off.)

Only discovered it when I had a fire and saw smoke coming from outside the fireplace. When a different contractor took out the fireplace, the beams in the walls were scotched and blackened. It's a wooden house, and I had my whole family inside the house that night. They always cemented the chimney cap to the top of the chimney so it could be cleaned.
