Westfield used be well...a dive. Granted there's a university there but for years it was like a lot of the old New England industrial towns...pretty gritty and sort of Old Grandad in a paper bag worthy. These days things are a little better...still bits of well worn but the downtown has improved included some interesting eateries including a pierogi place. Found this sushi place out by the generica strip mall on Route 20. Despite the exterior appearance that almost looks like a beaten up stand alone Chinese eatery from the 1970s...this place is a bona fide gem. K's has the sushi and a hibachi grille. Granted I'm not into the goof ball onion volcano and knife theatrics that appeals to a lot of steroid laden looking individuals with gold chains, but the sushi in here is probably as good as I've had in the Hartford-Springfield region. Some of the highlights included the Japanese red snapper and tuna (cut into a virtual scallop design). The sashimi is fresh and quite large for portion size. Very fair price here as well... Happy to find this place and is a great stopover if you are riding the Mass Pike across the state.. read more

Was so disappointed during my last visit. The service was lazy and a bit crude, and some of the food was a real let-down. Westfield's not exactly renowned for variety, nor quality in food; not that the community is clamoring for anything better. That's why when I come home, I typically dine in Northampton. But when I do stay in-town, I like to visit K's. It took persistence, but I convinced my mother and her friend to join me at K's (versus some other area crap). I thought K's would be gaining two new fans; instead, we all left unimpressed, and in no hurry to return. Let's start with the service. It was a very quiet Tuesday evening, with perhaps 6 other patrons. I arrived a couple minutes after my dinner companions. They had already decided on ordering off the hibachi menu, so I proposed we ask if we can relocate to the hibachi seating. Since they were newbies, they didn't even realize that was an option (would've been nice if they had been asked by the hostess/greeter). Like any decent person with manners, I couldn't have requested the move more politely; even apologizing for the inconvenience. Our waitress, clearly annoyed, reluctantly obliged and led us; though we had to carry our silverware, menus and water. The lousy service had yet to really start. They each ordered the hibachi vegetable, and I ordered seaweed salad, and an asparagus roll. A few minutes after ordering, our waitress returned with one of the most bizarre and unnecessary exchanges I've ever had at a restaurant. She informed us when a group of 3 sit at the hibachi, at least 2 need to order from the hibachi. Confused why she was wasting her breath, since 2 of 3 did order from the hibachi menu, I said: "we did that." Her response: "yeah, just for next time." Okay... My mother decided she wants a glass of wine. We ask our server for the wine list. She returned with the cocktail list. So I retrieved a wine list. We were not offered chopsticks, and since our food was delivered by someone else, and our waitress was nowhere to be seen, I once again had to retrieve another item. She never even bothered to see how was everything was, nor see if we needed anything else. Now onto the food. First, the seaweed salad was fantastic, as was the asparagus roll. Very fresh; nice and crisp. The hibachi, however, was very disappointing. The chef was very friendly and warm; which, on the heels of our cold waitress, came as a very welcomed addition to our evening. The vegetable were pre-cooked, so by the time they reached their plates, they had been cooked twice. Besides the point the vegetables were the supposed highlight of the meal, they should never be overcooked at a restaurant; they should be vibrant in color, and crisp in texture. K's may be the best sushi in all of Western Mass. It does not look like much from the outside (ok, it looks like less than anything outside), but the interior is nice, and the sushi is fantastic. Every time we go, it is fresh, and the prices are super-reasonable. I didn't really realize what a gem K's is until we went to a sushi joint in Great Barrington, and got not-as-fresh sushi for double the price. Some folks like K's for the hibachi grills, which are certainly fun for a group of people, birthday, or any other occasion. But the sushi is really what is a treasure at K's. Tuna, cucumber & avocado rolls are our staple there, and the sushi specials are often creative inventions too. We like it so much and go here so often that the staff recognizes us and makes us feel extra welcome. Bottom line: Don't let the very ordinary exterior of K's fool you: This is a gem of Westfield cuisine for those who like sushi. read more

A Japanese Hibachi restaurant? In WESTFIELD?? Yes. They have one and it is DAMN GOOD! I took my mom here for lunch last Saturday. She and my Dad ate here one night and really enjoyed the sushi and the excitement of the Teppanyaki grill. The chef was cutting parts of chicken and cooking them on the grill in front of a whole audience and points to my Dad and says, "Open Mouth." And, JUDO CHOP! He flings the meat off the knife and it sails into my Dad's mouth. Everyone applauded. Then he did it again -- more applause. Ok, so my Mom and I decide to try it out on Saturday. I being the "esteemed" sushi eater from Boston had low expectations for this place. Okay, I'm really not a big sushi person, I just play one on Yelp. Okay, that's not even really true, I like sushi, but only eat the veggies (sweet potato, avocado, cucumber, etc). I told my Mom, who listens to whatever I say in regards to menu choices, to try the chicken teriyaki Bento Box. We get two. She loves it, I love it. The chicken was perfect, the cut, the texture, and the taste. Just the right amount of teriyaki a big piece of broccoli and carrot -- and perfectly steamed white rice, gyoza, and 6 pieces of a California Roll. Excellent. I don't recommend the Green Tea. It was not even warm, and tasted fishy. The atmosphere is great. They have a sushi bar, booths, a bar that is stocked with every kind of booze imaginable. And a whole other room for teppanyaki. The service was wonderful, quick, efficient, and kind. They have parking, too. My drink of choice was a Shirley Temple -- and it, like the food, was delicious. I can't wait to go back! read more

Disagree with those of you who say the sushi is awesome. Either you haven't gotten out much or you haven't had good sushi. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura - which is my go-to roll - and it was probably the worst I've had. Palatable, yes, but no flavor, and the shrimp tempura was soggy. The whole point is the crunch! I also ordered some other roll and it was flavorless and disappointing. The miso soup is heavy on the fish sauce, which some people really like. The edamame was good but also not hard to pull off. I ordered green tea and it arrived cold. After asking for them to warm it up it was hot, but my refills were not. And not reasonably priced, either. read more

I'd have to say- just so so. I was impressed by the menu which had pretty color pictures that showed the food choices. And the food that came out was equally as pretty. Service excellent. Prices reasonable. But the food- just so so. Not the best Edamame I've ever had. I'm used to sliding the beans out easily and these didn't. I ended up having to break the shells to get the beans out. Problem with the beans or the cooking? I don't know. I didn't finish the seaweed salad because it seemed stringier than I am use to. Again, problem with the food or the prep? I don't know. The spicy tuna roll and the king of sea roll were quite good. Not the best sushi I've had but not bad. Most likely would not go back just to eat there, but I would go if in the area again. read more

Food is probably the best in Westfield. You have the option of hibachi or table seating. You can order the hibachi from the table seating as well so unless you are with a group I'd suggest that. The Hibachi side could use the same decor that the table side has. Overall a great place for dinner! read more

I have been here many times now and experienced the hibachi, sushi bar, and dining room experience several times each. This is a go to place for hibachi in Westfield, MA and surrounding areas, and a great contender in the sushi market. I have always been impressed, but I am now convinced K's is among the leaders in their craft; I asked for a chef's special roll, allowing the sushi chef to create his own roll for me and show me what they have to offer. I also ordered some of my favorite sushi flavors. The sushi was so fresh and outstanding I placed several more orders to try some of the flavors they had to offer. What impressed me the most was the Uni (sea urchin) sushi the chef provided me that was bursting with freshness and flavor that I have yet to experience in any other local sushi restaurant. I will continue to go here again and again. If you wonder why I voted 4 stars instead of 5, K's does not offer the diversity in flavors or service that some other places can offer for a similar price. Overall, very worth your visit. read more

You know, I love it when I'm there, the food tastes great, and the service is pretty good, but after three experiences of not feeling so hot afterward, I can't bring myself to go back. I don't know what it is - and don't get me wrong, I'm not getting violently ill or anything like that. I've had sushi, tempura and bento box meals - all taste good, but resulted in the same not so great feeling later. Maybe I'm sensitive to some special ingredient or something. Once was for a birthday hibachi get together and that was of course your standard hibachi loads of fun with tricks and antics by the chef. K's is the best sushi around. I love the dynamite roles and sweet potato rolls. Both are amazing. The hibachi is also incredible. The best I have ever been to hands down. We went to the one in Disney world and were so disappointed that it couldn't even compete in the same league as K's. This is a Pioneer Valley gem! This restaurant was nice, but their servants (waitresses/employees) were not as good as other places we have been to. I expected them to be a little bit more joyful, and not as miserable as their attitudes suggested. Aside from this, I thought the food here was excellent and the portions were good. I have not been eating sushi for a long time, but I can tell that this restaurant definitely makes sure that the taste is far better than anywhere else. It must be the American ingrediants (twist) that they use to enhance the taste. Great sushi with lots of specialty rolls - the lovely heart roll melts in your mouth. delicious! Also, spicy crab and avocado salad is a great start. Standard sushi rolls were reasonably priced but the specialty rolls were a little pricey but definitely worth it for the taste, flavors and presentation. Beef tataki was perfect.. although it was my first time trying it so I'm no professional in this area. we also tried sake bombs (a first for me) and the waitress was completely awesome/nervous/adorable serving it. The drinks were strong (for me, at least) and tasty. Overall, a great night with my love :) I recommend the fried bananas with a scoop of green tea ice cream (it normally is served with vanilla--of course :-/ ). Didn't get to have it this trip because the waitress didn't seem to understand my modification which normally would have probably bothered me (don't stand between me and my dessert) but my experience was so great that it didn't. And the waitress was so sweet and bubbly, it was impossible to be upset! Great atmosphere, great service, great sushi, great presentation.... You get both rice and noodles with your hibachi entree which is nice, their rice is very bland but not bad by any means just has less than what I've seen for most hibachi rices (no veggies in the rice just a side of veggies). This was our first time here. We were with a larger group. We were seated right on time and the water quickly got our drinks. Salads and soups were ordered but didn't end up coming out until they were cooking our meal. Really not a big deal. They were very good though. We all ordered our meal and our cook Ben came out and dos a few tricks and all the kids loved it. The food that was prepared was very hot and tasted delicious. I got the Steak and Chicken. The steak was prepared perfectly and had a great taste. Chicken was perfect as well, very moist and has a very good flavor. Went to K's for a special occasion for Hibachi. The hostesses and bartenders were really friendly while we waited for the Hibachi seating. Everyone in my group ordered something a little different, including a kids meal and a food allergy, and we were all very satisfied! The kids portion was huge. The Chef was entertaining and friendly, even going out of his way to interact with my child who was a little nervous about the whole experience. Food was cooked nicely and drinks were decent. This place was just OK. We came to celebrate a friends birthday at the hibachi. We anticipated the typical hibachi courses that go with the meal and the salad with ginger dressing was great, very basic but great. My husband and I also ordered a specialty sushi roll just to see how the sushi here compared to others in the area after hearing many of our friends rave about it. I have attached a picture of it but I honestly could not tell you the name of that even after doublechecking the menu, it was that forgettable. We were wildly unimpressed and mildly surprised to see the roll doused in various sauces and accoutrements. All of these things really took away from the flavor of the fish though there wasn't much of that anyway. Aside from the sushi, the hibachi was your standard hibachi. The chef was warm and entertaining but nothing above and beyond the standard that we've become accustomed to in the area. We will stick with Master Chef for sushi and Osaka for hibachi but I'm glad we tried this place. read more

K's is a real gem. Though we live only 15 minutes away we had never heard of it until a neighbor recommended it. With a party of 5 we got to order lots of things and everything was top notch. Seaweed salad was one of the best we've ever had. The mussels baked in dynamite sauce were delicious. Then we tried three special rolls - Fantastic, Crazy (with avocado and mango) and dragon (deep-fried with asparagus). All delicious and beautifully presented. Then for entrees we had hibachi, bento boxes and sushi deluxe. The portions of these dinners were huge! About twice the amount of food you would normally get in Japanese restaurants in Northampton. There was a birthday ice cream sundae and a big gong! AND we noticed that they have a killer luncheon special menu! read more

I will never, ever, ever go back to this restaurant. I should have known better when it took a while to seat us, even though the restaurant wasn't that busy, or when the waitress took a while to acknowledge us, or when I discovered the restaurant didn't have brown rice. In this day and age, there is no excuse to NOT offer brown rice. In any case, we stayed, and the waitress botched our order. She didn't put in the order for my six year old's food, leaving him hungry and waiting and very, very unhappy. When it did come, it wasn't what he ordered, and being a six year old, he got upset. She was very uncompassionate. Um, hello, he's a kid, and you kept him waiting for over half an hour for some teriyaki. And the teriyaki wasn't even good. The chicken tasted like it had been boiled or microwaved. Did they give us a discount? Comp one of the meals? Of course not. With two small kids in tow, I didn't have time to argue with them; the meal had already taken way longer than was reasonable, considering the only half-busy restaurant. Plus, they barely spoke English. I get it, it's an Asian restaurant, but you need staff that can communicate with customers, which they clearly can't if they can't even put in a second order of teriyaki. To add insult to injury, I was treating that night, but the waitress not only gave the check to my husband, but when he tried to hand it over to me, she firmly guided it back to him. Um, no. In short: horrible service, mediocre food. I could have gone to a chain restaurant for better food and much better, kid-friendly service. Never again, K's. Never again. I'll drive to Northampton or Connecticut the next time I need a Japanese food fix. Edited to add: My husband, who was with me, says that this place is obviously run by people who have never ordered, made, or eaten food. I tried calling the morning after to talk to a manager or owner. First the girl on the phone wouldn't tell me when the manager was in and tried to take down my name and number. No, I want to speak to the manager. So she said he was in after 8. I hung up. She then called back - *69'ed me - to argue some more with me. I was like, "I just want to talk to the manager, and the manager better be there when I call." She was still trying to get my name. read more

K's has the best maki specials...ever. New York, Los Angeles, they don't compare. Lover's Box roll is probably the best. So much goodness packed into one roll it's hard to describe, and it's topped with strawberry sauce. The sashimi appetizer is also great, and for $1 you can get a side of white rice. They have a hibachi where you can eat and take your friends too. Order every special maki roll you can handle, it's worth it. read more

A few years ago I boycotted K's because of a couple bad experiences in a row but on a quick fly-by for lunch between then and now I couldn't believe the differences. The interior is cleaned up, the food has been great, service has been great.
