However, I had to make a choice, given that I've been a bit disappointed twice in a row, 3 it is then. The first visit, I had lunch special Thai eggplants with hot & sour soup. The hot & sour soup was delicious, although it's not the original SiChuan style. It substituted the signature day lily buds to golden needle mushrooms instead. It appears to be the Fuzhou style where the owner & chef are from, nonetheless, it's still very tasty. The Thai eggplants didn't come with any meat. I didn't know it's a vegetarian dish until it's too late, would have preferred to add some beef to it. The flavor was good but it's just too greasy, it sits in a puddle of oil as you can see from the photo. There are ways to make it less greasy but it takes efforts. Efforts take time & time is money, Apparently, this was something not worthy of improving when I brought it up. I kind of understand it but also felt disappointed at the same time. The second lunch visit, i ordered my favorite Japanese dish Unagi Don, I.e. Grilled eel on rice. I was more disappointed than the first time. The eel was barely warm, from the taste & texture, I felt it was precooked & microwaved upon order. The eel sauce was subpar & the slight fishiness further supports my suspension. This is a subpar Unagi Don experience unfortunately. I don't feel so bad now on giving it 3 star. I may return one more time to try out their sushi sashimi offerings, however, not in a any rush & not getting my hopes up either.

It had aromatics and not too heavy with oil like some places are. The General Tso chicken was really great. Light breading and quality meat. It didn't have a crunch to it, but that also meant it wasn't overly breaded and fried. Sometimes that make a dish feel too heavy and gross after. Overall, fair prices for quality food. Bar. ) with amazing vibes, got a super cool, gorgeous resin bar and really nice upholstered furniture with beautiful colors and big, fabulous, flat screen TVs showing amazing Japanese food shows and served the worst sushi you have ever had. That's BarKaya. No. Really. I kinda wanted to award a third star for general vibe and the fact that I met and talked to some super cool people during my visit. Call it "star inflation." But! BarKaya is, after all, putting itself forth as a restaurant and at restaurants we eat food and BarKaya deserves zero stars for food. You too can buy it at the grocery store. Shrug. Miso Soup. Very large bowl. Which is nice. Not good Miso. They're not using a base (like Dashi or fish stock) and they're using too much Miso (how do I know? I've made Miso myself and done the same darn thing at home...many times). An assortment of terrible, awful, barely edible pieces of sushi: Ikura, Tobiko, Salmon Belly, Torched Fatty Tuna (that looked exactly like some sort of really inexpensive cut of beef that was then overcooked). A California Roll. Because who screws up a California Roll?? BarKaya. That's who... And an Unagi Roll. Because, again, it is nearly impossible to mess up Eel. BarKaya proves it's not entirely impossible. Because even the Eel Sauce was not good. I mean you can just BUY Eel Sauce and get some delicious stuff. These people need to be stopped. I drank their one Sake. It was fine. It probably saved my life. Always drink plenty of alcohol when you are also eating questionable/sketchy things that could potentially kill you. My theory is the alcohol will fight the toxins!! Mr Business Manager who replied below in a particularly unhinged fashion (he appears to have retracted the vast majority of his tirade - just as well, it was borderline "restraining order" stuff. Reminded me of what the old Hu Ke Lau in Longmeadow used to be when it was around, but smaller. They have Scorpion Bowls and Dark and Stormies on the drink menu, and someone at another table ordered some sort of big, sizzling platter, for example. We had one small complaint from a confessed picky eater, but everyone was otherwise happy all around. Moo shu pork and Mongolian beef got the best endorsements.
