Tried again, not much has changed Been a while, decided to come in again and get some of their other dishes. The entrance and actual restaurant are still not easy to spot. The dining area is still very sparse in design and coverage. The wait staff were still apathetic, and the wait times for things is still a little long. The Korean fried chicken was very tasty, sweet and salty Korean bbq sauce on perfectly fried wings was delightful. We opted for the pho, and that was very good. The broth was rich and flavorful, no need to season it was perfect already. The brisket was tender and still had a strong brisket flavor. There was a good amount of meat to the bowl and the noodles were fresh. The noodles did clump a bit, but they easily separated when agitated. All of the sushi was not as successful. The rolls lacked any significant flavor and missed some basic elements of sushi preparation. The rice was not seasoned, was not sticky, and the fish was roughly cut. The spicy rolls lacked spice and the crunchy rolls lacked crunch. It was presented well, just didn't show the level of care the front of the menu had. We informed our server of the sushi problems and she apologized but still charged us for all the sushi. Making an otherwise great experience not so great. I would recommend those who come here to focus on the front of the menu exclusively. Those dishes are stellar and are well worth the asking price. The front entrance was locked with a sign saying to use the side door. The interior was very minimalistic. I was greeted right away and I asked if they had a high chair, which they did. We were seated and brought waters right away. They didn't have a children's menu so I ordered my toddler ramen and broth which they happily obliged; this was $10 for anyone wondering. My husband and I shared two sushi rolls which was a lunch special; Philadelphia Roll and eel/avocado roll, both were fresh and tasty. My main course, "the Darkness Ramen", in tonkotsu broth, pork belly, fried garlic, ajitama cured egg, bean sprouts, green onions, bamboo shoots, kikurage earwood mushroom with black garlic oil. The pork was very tender and melted in my mouth and the egg had a unique flavor; every flavor intermingled perfectly. I'm more of a fan of tangy and spicy flavors but I'm glad I got to try this out. On a cold and blustery day in early December what could be better than an order of Pho? I tried their Pho & Brisket made with 16 hour Vietnamese bone beef broth and pork, assorted veggies and egg. This is a fabulous dish! The broth is rich with a deep flavor of beef that hits the spot on a cold day. The pork was a little crispy on the outside and tender inside. Tiger Belly Noodle Bar's new dining room reminds me of a blank canvas. This blank canvas is filled by the art of noodle bowls, fluffy bao buns and crispy chicken wings. I went with the Brisket Pho and the woman ordered the "Darkness" Ramen Bowl. It's a bowl of Tonkotsu if you were wondering but I'll go with the "Darkness". Kinda spooky but I like it. My Brisket Pho was like no other that I have ever had. This brisket had an amazing smokeyness to it and it came it large buttery slices. Melted in my mouth, barely any chewing necessary. BUTTER I tell you. The Tonkotsu Ramen had a nice creaminess I the broth and it was accompanied by once again, buttery pieces of shoyu. The noodles had that nice ramen chew and the egg was runny. Now these double fried chicken wings had this beautiful texture on the outside. This light, chewy and crunchy outer layer that we expect from asian chicken wings was 100% present. That green onion and sesame seed garnish......also present. Were they perfect? In my opinion, YES. Beautiful, tasty and unique food. Oh and the service was great too! As my wife, our dog Pasta and I neared the end of our Farmington Canal Heritage Trail walk in Simsbury, I contemplated how to cherry-top a Five Star ice cream sundae of a terrific Saturday morning that also included high end pastries, a dog park and arguably CT's best coffee. I remembered that we were near one of my Yelp Bookmarks -- Granby's Tiger Belly Noodle Bar. I initially bookmarked Tiger Belly for its ramen. Slurping broth and wet noodles at a picnic table while corralling an 80 pound dog seemed problematic. I remembered that Yelpers also love Tiger Belly for its sushi. Add two more to Tiger Belly's big sushi fan list. Tiger Belly is one business in a series of buildings in Granby perpendicular to Routes 10/202. I walked through the takeout door to order so I didn't see the main dining room. Service was friendly and helpful. In terms of time, they under-promised and over-delivered. They text when your order is ready. We ordered the 3 roll Maki lunch special with spicy salmon, sweet potato tempura and peanut avocado. It also came with a leafy house salad served with a tasty above average ginger dressing. In addition, we ordered an East Windsor Specialty Roll, which included peppered tuna, King Crab and avocado. This is a fairly common mix for my wife and me because she likes some non-fish rolls, we both like spicy salmon and we like to try at least one specialty roll. We ate at an outside table. Excluding one very expensive New Haven sushi restaurant, Tiger Belly's rolls bested any sushi I've had from similarly-priced places this year. The sweet potato tempura had a deeper flavor and better crunch. The avocado seemed fresher and the peanuts crunchier. The spicy salmon rolls had better color, consistency and flavor. The East Windsor Roll, topped with its broad stripes of green avocado and tuna maroon, and accented with sauce, looked beautiful and tasted fresh and delicious. I was hoping Tiger Belly would put the cherry on top of a great ice cream sundae of a Saturday. Hadn't been here in a while and was pleasantly surprised to see the improvements they've made since the last visit. The dumplings were so good. Dining companions each had two before I could start one. Nothing artificial about these gyoza. And then the darkness ramen is legit. Stopped here in our way to Bradley airport for a later flight. Very unassuming space (go in the side entrance for sit down). The gyoza and edamame were great starters. We had the ramen special. The mushrooms were something I never had before, a little too meaty for me. Wish we tried the bao but we didn't want to be too full before boarding the plane.
