The one thing that annoyed us was the vast amount of birds flying around. You can see their footprints everywhere and there were many close to us. If we had food we would've most likely been bothered by them because there were so many. Fun fact: Kazuo Sakamaki, the first prisoner of war taken by U.S. forces during World War II, was captured on December 8 1941 on Waimanalo Beach.

Although there's no shade, we came towards sunset, so it didn't bother me much. If you're looking for a quiet beach away from Waikiki Beach, this is the place. There is a large rock that people jump off of that is super fun for those adventurous at heart! This beach also has bathrooms and a rinse station, even though it's a little more out of the way than other beaches. My ONLY qualm/word of caution is the parking situation. I went during peak beach time and had to park down the highway, my friend who had recently had ACL surgery struggled with the walk. If I had kids I wouldn't not have made that walk on the highway. There is a small lot attached to the park, but it was filled by the time I got there ~11:30.

Parking: 5/5 - Personally did not have an issue parking here there were plenty of spots available at around 10:30/11. But there is another lot a further down the road. I prefer the one that i was at however I felt like the other lot going up to Lainkai was more for fisherman and kids. Location: 5/5 I had Lainkai Beach saved on my list so going to this one was a bit unexpected but they deliver the same views and even better that there's a restroom! Restroom was super clean too With that being said it was pretty windy which wasn't a problem but know that its blowin. The sand as well is that fine white sand which is super pretty but it sticks to you so if you're not a sand person...well...you're going to have to accept your textured fate. I wish I could've stayed here longer honestly. I love the fact that there's a foodland nearby to get some lunch and lounge here. There were families of course what are you going to do but there's enough space I feel like without too much crowding. The water was a postcard blue, warm and clear and tranquil. We arrived around 11A, and both the parking lot and the beach were already slammed. We got lucky and snagged a parking stall just as someone was pulling out. Finding a spot on the sand took a little longer, but eventually we found a place to nestle. The water was beautiful. The waves were mostly soft rolling breaks with the occasional stronger set that could catch you off guard if you weren't paying attention. Overall, I think it's a great beach for inexperienced swimmers, but I probably wouldn't recommend it for families with toddlers who just want to wade near the shoreline. Those occasional waves have enough push to knock over the littles. One thing I appreciated was how well-maintained the restrooms were compared to some of the other beach parks around the island. They also have a foot rinse station just outside the bathrooms, which made it easy to rinse off the sand from our feet and slippahs before heading back to the car. Such a simple feature, but one I always appreciate. Would I come back? Absolutely. The soft white sand, beautiful warm water, and relaxed vibe make it easy to spend an entire afternoon here. Just come early if you want a fighting chance at parking.

Kuhio Beach looks great during the day, and it's fun to watch the surfers doing their thing, but it's borderline magical at night. My brother and I spent a little over two hours just walking around and chatting because the vibe was perfect by the time we checked it out. Times are pretty tough for a lot of people these days, but I can honestly say that being here was pretty blissful. It was the perfect way to end our vacation to Honolulu as it provided the space to further decompress and reflect on where our lives are at and on the things that we still want to (and will) accomplish with our lives. Chatting with some of the locals as well as other tourists was pretty fun too because, once again, something about the beach just creates a serene atmosphere that compels you to reach out to others and connect. Kuhio Beach is one of the best places to relax in my humble opinion, and it'd be a terrible shame if you didn't see the sun set here at least once.

On the North Shore of Oahu are some of the most beautiful beaches. We hiked the Ehukai pillboxes…read moreacross the street (near the Sunset Elementary school parking lot) and decided to just come across the street to hit the beach. My go to beach in this area is Ke Iki's, but decided to try it out here because of the proximity. We pulled into the parking lot and there were plenty of spots. To relax on the shore, this was not the most ideal beach. You've got a big downward slope to get from the parking lot to the sand, but then the sand slopes all the way up in front of the water. Because of that, from most of the shore, you can't actually see the water, because of the slope of the sand. I'd never seen something like this before and I've grown up in Hawaii! We had to hike up a small hill to layout at the top of the sand to watch the water, but then the waves would hit and flood the area. It might've been the way the tide was at the time, but overall, I'm bummed I didn't stick with Ke Iki's where the shore is a lot more flat leaving plenty of space to just lay out and enjoy. As always, respect the ocean. I saw a lot of tourists coming and turning their backs to the waves. They aren't to be messed with up here! Bathroom by the parking lot with showers to clean off from the sand.

Sightseeing in Haleiwa, Oahu…read more.. My friends from New Jersey wanted to visit the North Shore. I thought that they meant Haleiwa Town. No. They wanted to see the Big Waves at the beach. Uh... ok... that's not my strong point, but I'll try and find something. Ehukai Beach has some free parking, restrooms, and outdoor shower. It's a nice place to view the waves and surfing action. I wouldn't swim here.

Got the free bike rentals and took the trails all over. You can see quite a bit more on the bikes…read morethan on foot or by car. Good exercise to boot lol.
