Pineapple Fried Rice and Khao Soi
    Lisa Z.

Didn't expect such a good restaurant to be in Lansdale! Made reservations for a Friday night with a friend and the place was bustling. We ordered the chicken satay, pineapple fried rice, and khao soi. The chicken satay was tender and we both loved the peanut sauce. I think this was a bit pricey since it's 4 small pieces. The presentation for both entrees were great, and they tasted even better. The food came out pretty fast and service was attentive. I will be back!

Very cute little place. Parking in the lot behind the building. Free after 6pm. Get the papaya salad. Pad Thai was on the sweeter side. Drunken noodles and pad see ew were great. Panang curry was a bit salty and the mango sticky rice dessert was super sweet. $100 (with tip) for 4 people, 4 entrees, 1 app and 1 dessert.

I came to Kub Kai for a lunch with some coworkers on a weekday. The restaurant wasn't large, so our group of 12 felt pretty large. The ambiance was pretty relaxing and the interior design was nice. The food seemed pretty delicious based on my coworkers reactions. I had the Massaman curry and it was done very well. The prices were pretty reasonable. Overall it's a great Thai restaurant to eat at and the service was attentive.

Loved Kub Kao! Street parking only (but is free between 12p-1p lunch hour and after 8pm I believe on weekdays). Was very surprised to find this gem in Lansdale! The interior is very aesthetic!! With light wooden tables, twinkling string lights and cute greenery. And the khao soi is top notch! Beautiful plating and with great flavor, nice chewy noodles. You can choose your choice of protein (I got chicken which was great). I also got the tom kha (coconut lemongrass soup) here which was also very delicious! Perfect without being too salty. Service was friendly, fast, and attentive. Prices were very reasonable, especially compared to other Thai restaurants in the area. Would highly recommend this spot if looking for Thai in the Philly suburbs! My fiance also tried their spin on Hainanese chicken (I never like Hainanese chicken but will say this one was very prettily plated). The khao soi and tom kha are the must gets here!

Ordered the Kha Soi on their special menu. It's basically noodles in a curry soup. Not too spicy but enough spice. They provided more spicy oil on the side of you want to add more spice to the dish. Noodles were al dente. Lots of crunchy bits. You can add your choice of protein for a certain price. I had chicken. A squeeze of lime goes well on it. Overall loved the dish. My partner had the Massaman Curry which he also enjoyed. Sweet roti for dessert. I believe they took roti and placed it in a waffle maker. Crispy layers of roti in one bite with condensed milk and chocolate. Very yummy. Service was attentive. Atmosphere was lovely with plants, a mural painted with plants on it, elephant statues, and bunny figurines. Not too loud. A great place to eat and have a conversation with your partner. Highly recommend Kub Kao.

While their space on Main Street, Lansdale, is nicely decorated Asian casual, and my interaction with the manager while waiting for my takeout was pleasant, I can't say that their kitchen is anything more than average for suburban Thai cuisine. I ordered Spring Rolls, Tom Kha Soup and Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) w Chicken, "Thai Spicy." Here's what I got - Two small Spring Rolls w tiny container of sweet dipping sauce; consumed in three bites; pretty good coconut milk based soup with plenty of chunky veggies; and large flat noodles with reasonable standard vegetables and ground chicken(!), lacking the requested heat quotient. The Pad Kee Mao completely missed the mark. The noodles were over soft, and lacking chewiness. They just gave up the ghost without a fight. I had never seen ground chicken in this dish, and it was obviously not the way to go. It lacked taste and texture so apparent when slices of chicken are used to hold flavor and add to the textural profile. I couldn't tell if it was bird or tofu, it was so nondescript. No Thai heat either. Where were the lemongrass and red chillies? Lost somewhere in translation between me, the manager and the kitchen. A total fail. Clearly many love Kub Kao, Unfortunately, it didn't do it for us. My wife (Asian) wouldn't eat the noodles after first bite, and sniffed at the spring rolls. She gave the Tom Kha a pass. Our only suggestion is for them to reevaluate the ground chicken thing and try fresh sliced poultry. Too, when people ask for heat, give it to them. Don't get caught in the "Americans don't like spicy food," game. Some of us do, and we should get what we want. Second guessing seldom is appreciated.

Curry was delicious. Sampler was tasty. Just it felt slightly smoky inside after awhile. Service was attentive.

I'd never heard of let alone had pumpkin curry and it was wonderful. Their version of summer rolls are all veg, no meat or noodles and also very good. I believe it's a BYO. I asked the server if it could be fixed, but she said they had tried before and couldn't fix it. At that point, I feel like the table should have been changed. I ordered the Thai green tea, shrimp in blanket, and Poor Man's Noodle, while my partner ordered the Pad Thai. I really enjoyed the appetizer and the Thai green tea, but the Poor Man's Noodle was disappointing. It was bland, and I didn't think the sauce went well with the noodles. I ended up leaving a large portion. I also tried the Pad Thai, which was too sweet for my taste. Parking is available in the rear, but it is not free. Overall, I think it may have just been a poor choice of dishes for me tonight. The restaurant was also very loud, which made it difficult to have a decent conversation. The appetizer and drink were good, but the main dishes just weren't to my taste.

I ordered takeout...on July 4th! bc it was @ 95 degrees, beyond my comfort level to grill. I placed my order in person bc I ask most places to use my de-seeded hot dried peppers so that I can enjoy hot Gen Tso chicken yet not get intestinal issues from hot indigestible seeds. ( fussy, I know, but I love the scorched taste of those peppers that's irreplaceable). I explained this to Wendy, the kind woman who's probably the owner bc 2 kids were hanging out occupying themselves, and she said no problem. Wife's chicken with veggies ( but hold the mushrooms) was reported to be excellent: unbreaded chicken, al dente vegetables. " best she's ever had". Brown rice was available, no problem, tasted great, no upcharge. My Gen Tso was also very good, plenty of broccoli but also pineapple, new one to me but was nice to balance the heat. Only suggestion would be to increase the sauces bc each coated our chicken sufficiently but none extra. ( and it was so good I wanted more!) I will return here to try more things! Thank you, Wendy!

We wanted Chinese tonight but after a long day cleaning the yard I was in no mood to drive 40 minutes to our usual place. My wife did some searching and found Amber Asian. We checked out the reviews both here and Google so we decided to give it a try. Hell, it's only 5 minutes away and people said they drove 20 for the great food! Wellllll, that was not our experience. I guess they want to be take out only since when we walked in the door and told the teenager at the register we wanted to eat in, the look on his face clearly said, "are you f-ing kidding me?" At that point we were handed a single take-out menu and pointed to a table. Yikes! We are off to a great customer experience. After a few minutes of looking at the menu we were ready to order but no one approached the table at anytime nor offered us water or beverages. As I stood to go to the register to order since i figured they really don't do table service we were approved by the family 10 year old. He took our order, we had to ask for water and he brings us 2 bottles of BJ's water. We ordered 2 Wonton soup - got 1. We ordered a spring roll and an egg roll- we got a spring roll. The main courses come out but no plates. We asked for plates - we get paper plates. So all in all, I do not get the 4.4 stars, the "I drive 20 minutes to get food here", the "best Chinese in the area" reviews. The wonton soup was good, the wontons very flavorful, I can comment on the egg roll I never got but the wife liked the spring rolls. The House Special Fried rice was not very special and the Sweet & Sour Chicken was just ok. BTW, do not try to rate this place on ambiance as there is none. It's 4 plain tables 3 feet front the kitchen. I guess you're not a happy teen when forced to work in the family business but if this puts a roof over your head at least pretend to care about your customers. I see they do a healthy takeout business but maybe they should take the tables out and stop pretending to be a full service restaurant.
