We were confused because the sign out front said they close at 7 PM, but that was not the case. We walked in and were greeted right away and sat at a four top table. Super friendly server. Very chatty, but in a kind and genuine way. We ordered an appetizer that was brought to us within five minutes. For dinner, I went for the Thai eggplant with tofu. Loaded with fresh vegetables and a soy based sauce that had the perfect amount of sweetness. The eggplant was cooked perfectly. Just enough rice to balance out the dish. This is our weekly go to restaurant. The food is fresh, spiced to your preference and served with love. Our favorite is their name sake dish Thai Basil. Delicious Pad See-Ew bursting with flavor! The scrumptious wide noodles were tasty and not greasy. Appreciate the fresh veggies - carrots, broccoli, scallions, and chunks of tofu. The veggie Penang Curry had a spicy kick and quite runny, wasn't my favorite. The fresh mixed veggies - carrots, green beans, squash, and chunks of tofu were nice. While I tried mixing in the swet Pad See Ew into the Penang Curry to cut some of the heat, the spiciness was over powering. Love the mother daughter duo and supporting this small business. The daughter was really nice and took our order at 7:50pm, 10 min before closing (8pm) and offered to give us extra rice. Our order took 25 min and made fresh. No dining, carry-out only. My husband and I dined here on Friday night for dinner. It's a dark and somewhat sleepy spot, but we were initially put off mainly by the fact that we were the only patrons at 6:30pm, though others did start showing up later. We were quickly and warmly greeted and seated immediately. Our server was friendly and candid and answered all our questions. The menu is typical; prices are OK. I got the Drunken Noodle with tofu (my go-to Thai dish) and my hubby got the Drunken Noodle with beef. We were both completely satisfied with our dishes. The heat (spice), temperature, texture, and portions were perfect! So yummy. The fresh coconut drink was odd...not quite what I'd expected. I did not like it. The "Thai Lemonade" was basically normal lemonade with a wedge of lemon and a wedge of lime (as honestly described by our server!). As far as Thai food goes, it's pretty darn good. We've been here now several times and have always enjoyed the food. They even have my favorite dish, "Evil Jungle Princess" which I haven't been able to find at all Thai places. The seating is comfortable and and not too cramped as I've experienced at a few Thai places. Obviously it depends on the location size, but I thought I'd mention it. It's never been too crowded when we go, but it does usually seem to be a husband wife duo taking care of the tables and they are constantly on the move. I've also noticed they make a concerted effort to speak in English, most likely not their mother tongue, to each other. This is certainly not important to me, but it shows their effort to please all. I personally think it shouldn't matter, but alas, it matters to some. The woman is often seen going above and beyond. My husband asked about a certain spice and the next thing you know, she's plucking fresh leaves of the spice (plant) and giving them to us to take home. Another table asked about the manga ice cream and she ran in the back to grab them one of her special mangos. This is the kind of establishment you want to support. Go do it :) Oh, and you HAVE to try the taro ice cream. It's amazing. read more

I USED to love this place but not any more! Their prices have skyrocketed and there are no more lunch specials - which was the main reason I came in. They make you buy everything separate now which is MUCH more expensive! I will give my business to restaurants that DO have lunch specials! They should realize that lunch specials are a main source of afternoon business - guess they don't. read more

The two biggest disappointments were prices and portions of meat. I ordered a $14 chicken dish that had maybe 7-8 small pieces of chicken (not even one breast worth). The rest was tons of vegetables. It wasn't authentic, the dish isn't traditionally prepared w 95% vegetables and 5% meat. Ordinarily, the dish would be 90% meat and maybe 10% vegetables. The special of lamb they had was not properly cooked (parts were raw vs medium rare) and the service was slow. A few months later I went for lunch and things looked to be better. The best Pho in the area. Made fresh every day. The flavor is there as is the light and filling feeling after enjoying a bowl of it. Service wise, I cannot eat a certain ingredient in their Pho and ask for it to not be included in my Pho and to date, they have not included that ingredient. I dunno why people are saying this place is authentic. The som tam salad that I got came with nuoc mam, instead of this other shrimped based spicy sauce I'm used to. Nuoc mam is viet, which explains why this place also also doubles as a pho house. I got the green curry with a special request - I asked for it with all the seafood they have, which should have been scallop, shrimp, mussels, and calamari. Unfortunately, they ran out of scallops, so they gave me extra shrimps instead. The waiter/owner told me to be careful because it was spicy. When I took my first bite, there was no heat in it at all. I think they cater to a different type of crowd here, so their spiciness isn't comparable to authentic thai dishes. For dessert, I got the sticky rice and homemade taro ice cream. For homemade, it was pretty perfectly blended... They drizzle this sauce on top of it, which was kinda like condensed milk. It was delicious, but excessive, and took away from the subtle flavors of the taro in the ice cream. This appears to be the only Thai place in the area, so I don't really have anything to compare it against. It would be unfair to compare it to the places in the DMV though. For that, this is just an average 3 stars. If you have to have Thai food, then this place is ok. I'd try something else before coming back. read more

For the area it's pretty good. When in the suburbs without a large ethnic population of the food from which a restaurant originates, I tend to stick with the things that are more commonly ordered instead of devitating to try new things because these are the things done often and usually done well. That being said, it seems to be a family run restaurant and it was pretty good. Lunch special with appetizer, soup, and main course for $10.50?! Awesome I went with the Tom Kha Kai? soup which could've used a bit more coconut flavor, but was otherwise pretty good. Some golden triangles appetizer which was basically deep fried tofu squares in some duck sauce w/ peanuts thrown in, still good. And for the main dish I had pad thai. I'm not sure if it was good pad thai, it was definitely pretty good noodles, but not sure how close it was in terms of pad thai flavors. read more

This place is a hidden gem. I had the Thai fried dumplings as an appetizer the dumplings are stuffed with ground pork and they were delicious. Cooked to perfection and served with a blended soy sauce to die for. My main course was Khao Phat with Shrimp. This is fried jasmine rice with shrimp and vegetables. This dish was very tasty. This Thai restaurant is awesome!! It's my favourite Thai place in the whole United States so far!! I have been here a couple of times and everything I have had is delicious! Their lunch special is a great deal for its price. Their tom yum goong soup is very flavourful. Crispy roll is very crispy. Pad Thai is yummy. But my favorite is their drunken noodle. The rice noodles in the drunken noodle is so soft yet with great texture. I haven't had such great rice noodles for a long time!! And the texture has been consistent every time I went back. Came here for lunch with two other coworkers today. I got the shrimp pad thai and the papaya salad (I forget what the menu name is). The papaya salad was super spicy and super delicious. The shrimp pad Thai was average. kind of sad, really. For $13 I would've thought they'd put more than 3 shrimps in there. Our family's first experience with Thai cuisine was Thai Basil when this restaurant opened 11 years ago. It was so good that we stopped going to other Asian restaurants as this place was clearly better quality and flavor. Ingredients are identifiably fresh and prepared with care. The flavor is amazing. We've been regular fans since our first visit. We love the Evil Jungle Princess, all the noodle dishes, and curries are so good. But just when you thought the Buddha dumplings app, your favorite main dish left you completely amazed, have the Taro ice cream for dessert. I'll be so bold as to say that it is probably the best ice cream I've ever had. BYO makes this a great evening out with family and friends at a very reasonable price. Now... during the Covid-19 outbreak, I continue to support this gem of a restaurant with takeout weekly. Open Thursday/Friday/Saturday. They have scaled-back their hours during these challenging times in order to keep the freshness of their food up to their high standards. So I highly encourage folks to be mindful of supporting all our local businesses SAFELY. This is one of the best Thai restaurants I have ever been to. The food is phenomenal, as well as the service. We got the Pineapple fried rice (SO GOOD), Red Curry (PERFECT and perfectly very spicey...I'm a Red Curry addict), Tom Kha Kai soup (wonderful! It's a lemongrass and coconut soup, it's not supposed to taste like straight up coconut), and some good old fashioned Thai Iced Tea (also delicious). The owner was super nice and gave us her homemade Taro ice cream to try because it was our first time there. It was creamy and had a nice subtle taro flavor. I'd love to try all the other homemade flavors as well as, my favorite, mango with sticky rice. I read some of the bad reviews...and I'm thinking that the people who wrote them have never had Thai food before, didn't know what to expect, and therefore, don't know what they're talking about. Or they are the kind of people who are just negative about everything and nothing will please them. For the people that complain,"oh it's not authentic". So what if the curry didn't have the Thai eggplant in it. Just because it's missing one authentic ingredient, doesn't mean the food isn't authentic or lessen the greatness of it. Tried Thai Basic Bistro on a strong recommendation from my sister-in-law. The restaurant did not disappoint. Had lunch here and enjoyed everything. They have a lunch special that is hard to beat - $10.99 for soup, half portion appetizer and entree. All the food had good flavor and the vegetables in the soup and entree were extraordinarily fresh looking and tasting. Dishes may be non-spicy or marked with 2 levels of spicy heat; hot or very hot and spicy yet bearable. My dish was the latter and the description is right on. It was pretty hot but no so much that I broke a sweat and my nose started running. The standout was the appetizer, Tulip dumplings. They were amazing. Service was pleasant and attentive and the pacing of the meal was perfect. The interior of the restaurant has an Asian feel that is very warm and inviting and is uncharacteristically lacking in gaudy accoutrements. The ceiling tiles painted to look like the sky is a nice touch. A great option if you're tired of the ubiquitous cookie cutter formula Asian restaurants with identical menus that inhabit nearly every strip mall. read more

I want to give a big ZERO to this restaurant if I could. Last time I ordered they mixed up the orders. This time when I ordered they made a different fried rice AGAIN whIch I obviously found out after I got home. The food had no taste, no salt and no spices. Then when I called to address the issue, they told me nothing can be done and next time dont order from their restaurant. Absolutely horribe customer service, tasteless food and they do not accept their mistake. I would not recommened this restaurant to anyone. read more
