Very friendly staff and welcoming casual atmosphere. My family and I came for dinner on their patio, which is dog friendly. Food satisfied our Filipino food craving. They have a bunch of Filipino inspired cocktails as well as the infamous red horse. Paid street parking in front.

I've walked by here so many times and finally went in and it was AMAZING! Everyone there was so nice. We sat on the outside patio which was really big and they had fans going so even on a humid night it was nice to be outside. We got the fried zucchini which was amazing and the beet argue salad which was very light and the dressing was so good! I definitely want to come back and try a few more dishes!

Genuinely one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago!! Maybe I'm biased because I was really hungry and I naturally love Filipino food, but guys - oh my goodness!!!!! The pork rib adobo - that soy-vinegar sauce was so perfectly sticky and tangy, the ribs were admittedly a little dry, but that garlic rice made up for it. Soooo fragrant and umami and just ugh!! The veggies were also sautéed in garlic and a bit of fish paste - literally so addicting. The star of the show was the lechon sisig, which came out sizzling hot on a sizzling plate. The diced pork belly released such a nice addicting aroma that coated the rest of the dish with the oil. With that + the garlic rice - just so perfect. We couldn't stop saying "oh my gosh this is so good" after every single bite. Ended with the halo halo, a classic Filipino dessert! This is shaved ice topped with a variety of ingredients like sweet plantain, coconut strings, palm jelly, sweet potato, and ube ice cream. The light coating of condensed milk on top was also super addicting. Some shaved ice can feel flavorless after a while because it's straight ice, but this had an evaporated milk base which helps elevate that crushed ice. This is a small family owned business, and while it was pretty empty when we first went in around 12, it was crowded by 1pm.

Service was outstanding! Stopped by for a quick lunch with my sister and we were initially worried at how empty the place was on a nice day (we were the only table there), however, we had such a great time. While we weren't quite impressed by the food itself, we were very happy with our drinks and how kind and attentive staff were. We ended up staying HOURS and while other restaurants try to kick you out after 2hrs, staff encouraged us to stay as long as we wanted (we were of course continuously ordering drinks and bites). The restaurant eventually got really busy and even with a full restaurant, staff continued to encourage us to stay. Will definitely be returning.

We stopped by near opening after finding Kubo on Yelp. The place had a cool vibe and we decided to try: - Chicken Eggrolls - Lechon Kawali - Pork Ribs Adobo - Calamansi Cream Brûlée The Eggrolls were delicious, flavorful and texturally pleasant. The two main courses were just ok. The Pork Ribs Adobo were a bit dry, the flavor of the adobo was great but I was expecting more of a fall off the bone experience but didn't get it. I was expecting more of the cool cream and glass like glaze of the cream brûlée but didn't get it. The Calamansi flavor was nice and came through. Overall it was good experience and plenty of people came in while we were there so definitely a neighborhood favorite but it was just ok for me. Try it if you're in the neighborhood!

My boyfriend and I went here on a whim during a weekday dinner. We were greeted by the friendly staff member and got to pick our table. We ordered the chicken adobo, kansi soup, and the longanisa burger. My boyfriend also ordered the San Miguel beer. We waited 20 minutes until the food came out. The kansi soup absolutely tasted like home, the way my mom cooks it. I loved the sourness and the meat is so tender and includes the bone marrow which was delicious. The chicken adobo had its own twist of flavor, which was still delicious. The lognanisa burger was a standard burger with the fixings and then added a longanisa sausage which was just fine, nothing too special. I would love to come back to try their Filipino cocktails that had calamansi in it and save more room for their dessert! Staff was attentive and friendly, would definitely visit again during brunch!

Our group was warmly greeted upon arrival. We were seated on the patio for our party of 14. We ordered all kinds of food, but mainly their beef soup, which has the right amount of umami & is well-seasoned like the rest of the dishes we tried. We enjoyed our meal, Thank you!

If you're going to a performance at Theater Wit, this is a restaurant where you want to have dinner before the show. They're considerate enough to ask you what time your performance will be and ensure that you're served and out of the restaurant on time. The food is reasonably priced, huge portions, and absolutely delicious. I can't believe I just discovered this restaurant after having visited Theatre Wit a dozen times. This will now be my go to pre-Theater Restaurant.

This is some of the best service I've received in Chicago - they are amazing, friendly, and know what your group is going to like. They are so accommodating especially for large groups. The ribs are excellent and I'd love to come back for the full spread they do across the table. It's very cute inside and there's a great porch.

Second time in as many weeks and just as great the second time; I failed to finish my review then! Everything we've tried so far is DELICIOUS and the owners are wonderful, fun, friendly, accommodating, all service is great! Start with the egg rolls; crispy, fresh, and yummy. Pork ribs adobo are scrumptious, and this time brunch with the Tocilog sweet pork....Heavenly. I want it again now!!!! Seriously Pancit buckwheat noodles with longganisa sausage was perfect for sharing last time, so fresh and tasty. Cocktails are spectacular. Just a great place and perfect before or after shows at Wit Theatre.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and got some dishes to share! The Lechon kawali was super good as well as the baked mussels! Service was also super nice and friendly!

We had a great time celebrating my sister's birthday' the staff & the owner personally arranged the "Kamayan" feast all 13 of us! The owner is Ilonggo, no wonder why the food was so delicious & homey; from lumpia to atchara to fried fish to green beans with bagoong.... sarap!!! The ambiance was chill & perfect for the birthday party my sister always wanted.

What a neighborhood gem...an amazing Filipino restaurant! Coming from Los Angeles where the Filipino cuisine culture has exploded, to my surprise, Kubo offers unique interpretations and flavors that blew my mind. First of all, the skinny egg rolls are like the length of Italian breadsticks...so convenient for dipping...genius! I loved my Pork Ribs Adobo. The meat practically fell off the bone. And the garlic rice and gravy! To die for. Everything was great! My daughter says the Halo Halo from Kubo is the best she's ever had. And she's a picky eater. Aside from the great dishes (see pics) and desserts, you need to experience the martini menu:) The Calamansi Martini is a must! And there's a nice list. And yes, there is a good selection of beer, wine, and a full bar:) Christine and Cemal made our first dinner in the city a memorable one indeed. Great hospitality and it's a dog friendly environment. The deep brown hues of the interior accentuate the colors and artistic presentations of every dish. For my next visit, I plan to select a few small plate dishes to pair with a few martinis. Summer fun is upon us Kubo People!

We can make some items vegetarian and vegan but we don’t have a lot of options. We can make a couple of the pasta vegetarian and we can make some stir fried veggies for the vegan. We have veggie eggrolls for vegetarian.

John's is Michelin recommended so I said- sign me up. All I knew going in was the accolade and that the chef preferred to do hyper local- which im all about. The vibes are perfect IMO. Cozy, clean, organic shapes with that bar (see the featured photos). It also has a relaxed enough vibe that despite the prestige it is truly a more formal/casual vibe- being there on a sunday I saw a handful of small groups come in no res just looking for wine. The food itself was pretty good. I thought the pork collar was cooked well and they did what I was hoping a hyper local produce focused place would which is not over cook the vegetables and let them shine. One note: assume way more complexity than the menu displays. The pork itself for example is listed as just the pork veggies and with its sauce so my expectations were hesitant - but what made the dish great was the tang that comes from the seasoning/marinade. What really stood out to me though was the staff- it could be that I was there in a dead hour but everyone put me at ease as a single server at a table (v bar) and my server even gave me a taste of their amazing bandaged cheddar - which as a huge foodie really made my experience great. Because theres no way im easily grabbing that cheese. SO as well to their wine director Felix especially. He and I connected over the ceramics they feature (Monsoon Pottery- check her out) and when I spilled some sauce on my white shirt he was quick to get me some soda water and I heard him asking around for some shout. So- formal/casual place but I felt treasured. Which tbh is really what makes good restaurants different to me when youre hitting this price point in chicago. Plenty of POS fine trendy places down town.

For food, we ordered the Parsons Big Dipper Platter, the three-piece fish fry, and Cindy's coleslaw. Let's start with the best part of the meal -- Cindy's coleslaw. It was creamy, flavorful, and exactly how coleslaw should be. The three-piece fish fry was tasty as well, although the batter was a bit too thick for my liking. The biggest disappointment was the Parsons Big Dipper Platter. According to the menu, it included hush puppies, chicken nuggets, and fried shrimp. Unfortunately, when the platter arrived, there was no shrimp included. We brought it to the waiter's attention, and only then were we informed they had run out of shrimp. It would have been nice to know that before ordering. It's surprising for such a busy restaurant to run out of an item that's featured on the menu. As for the service, unfortunately it was poor and inattentive. We constantly had to flag our waiter down anytime we needed something. Overall, the atmosphere was great, but the service and food inconsistencies made the experience disappointing. Not sure if we'll be returning.
