    Happy hour shrimp!
    Leland L.

Honestly I've been missing out that I've lived in the area for years and this was my first time here. Half shell is a local cash only spot and the servers have been working here for years! Such kind and genuine people. They have a great happy hour and the patio vibes are immaculate! I got an iced tea and a few shrimp on a Sunday afternoon and it was soooo good. Definitely will be back!

Date place this is not but they have do have good food with honest pricing. Stand outs are the fries (skinny/crispy), mussels(good appetizer portion) with a heavy buttery/wine sauce. Dip that toasted bread in the sauce and your day is complete. The shrimp corn chowder is good. It has a distinctly different taste than clam chowder. I do prefer the traditional New England version. The soft shell grab is excellent. It's perfectly seasoned but for $45 I'm complaining. The smelt was ok. If it wasn't for the $45 crabs granted they told me the market price but I thought I heard $25. I would give this place 5 stars. My bad. It's just they were 4 tiny crabs. For $45!

An iconic Chicago seafood spot that's been family run since it's opening in 1968. The interior is a cozy bar with nautical decorations and both table and bar seating. Staff are friendly and kind. And the food... it's delicious!! Their seafood is very fresh, especially the oysters and crab legs. We enjoyed an assortment of things including fried shrimp, raw and grilled oysters, snow crab legs, and mussels cooked with a delectable white wine sauce. Also, you must get a slice of their key lime pie for dessert. It's very hard to find a good key lime pie in the Midwest! Half Shell is a Chicago institution and if you haven't visited yet, make plans to do so soon!

My friends and I went here for there Happy Hour. $1 Oysters, $2 Peel & Eat Shrimp, $7 Margaritas, and much more. The oysters were pretty good and the margaritas were good and strong! Calamari was delicious but the charred oysters were not good unfortunately. The service was good but a little slow because there was only one person working but he was nice. The atmosphere was fine, a-lot of different people dining. Definitely recommend for the Happy Hour.

Cash only! I really appreciate how the whole staff helps each other, our cups were always full and we never had to wait. It's little things like asking for extra cherries for the first drink, and every drink refill the rest of the time had extra cherries. Patio was packed, we sat inside. Yes it can seem steep spending $70 on a plate of food, but it's priced well for what you get!

    Nothing so far :)

Had a mid-afternoon meal at the Half Shell. The food was pretty good and the service was solid. The Half Shell is a lower level place (not quite underground) - I liked the low-key feel. All-in-all an Ok spot.

The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered king crab, snow crab, shrimp, and drinks. The service was so friendly and the bartender found us a table quickly on a Saturday night. The inside is very cool and relaxed with a bar and minimal tables. No reservations required! Cash only, but they have an ATM inside. They give you butter in a bottle on the side so you're never running out. Reasonable prices and portions for seafood. Hole in the wall magic & delicious. We've gone twice now! Highly recommend

I want to kick myself for not coming here sooner! Knew I wanted king crab, but there was no way I was going to be able to eat 21 oz of it, so the server recommended I get the appetizer portion and it was 3 meaty legs. He even was nice enough to show me the easiest/cleanest way to crack them and get the most meat out effortlessly. So sweet and juicy and delicious. Comes with a mustard butter, which is chefs kiss! Also had a bowl of clam chowder, which was just as good as the crab. The vibe is dive bar meets oyster bar, and it's pretty perfect. Only accepts CASH! They do have an ATM inside!

We came in for a date on a Saturday evening and had our choice of seating. It wasn't crowded at all and had a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The crab cake appetizer was amazing and fresh, our waitress was also very attentive, kind and patient. I had the shrimp po' boy, it was buttery, warm, and delicious. My partner went with the cheeseburger, which he got medium well, with a side of fries. He said the burger was exceptional and a good portion for him, and he was especially hungry that day. We loved the atmosphere and the food was tasty and came out quick. Can't wait to go back!

I've had this place bookmarked for as long as I've been on Yelp, I'm 10yrs in Elite status, no telling how long I've been on here, but yeah this visit was LONG overdue!!! Thank God they're still open. That's a blessing in itself! Anywho, craving king crablegs, so we decided to drop by. We came in right before closing, but we were able to get seated and eat. We ordered fried shrimp, king crablegs, & snow crablegs. We also ordered 2 Mai tai's. Everything came out quickly and was fresh and hot. They don't season the crablegs, but their butter sauce is AMAZING!!!! That sauce was GOOD! The staff was friendly but hurried due to them nearing closing time. Which was fine. I live an hour or so from here, so that's why it took years to come by, but I'd come again if in the area.

She absolutely fell in love with the place and said she was having a great birthday. She wasn't planting seeds, I swear, but our server, ever the professional, said he'd take care of us. And he did, punctuating our dinner with a wonderful dessert with a birthday candle. Speaking of candles, the focaccia appetizer came out with a lit candle that melts a tasty, buttery dipping sauce. I had work done at the dentist earlier, so I had a hard time eating. Every bite was painful, but I heated up our leftovers and fell in love with my rigatoni with vodka sauce all over again. Yum. The only drawback is the prices. We're not rich, but we love a great experience. We understand that an experience like that comes with a price, so we'll be back as much as we can.

We've said to ourselves over and over, we have to try Kubo! We finally decided to go in for lunch on a cold Sunday (3/22) and we had the most wonderful meal. The space was clean, welcoming, and lively with other diners. There's plenty of seating and although I usually highly dislike high top seating, their bar seating was incredibly comfortable. We ordered the chicken eggrolls and two orders of the chicken adobo. All of our food came out very fast, and we had very attentive service. March Madness is currently going on and was playing in the restaurant. We are basketball fans so this was a plus, and we were asked if the game that was currently on was our preferred game to watch, which was very thoughtful. The food was incredible. The eggrolls were incredibly flavorful and the chicken in the chicken adobo fell off the bone easily. The sauce on the chicken was delicious and it mixed so well with the garlic rice. We cannot wait to bring friends and family to this restaurant in the future. The hot food made us feel so whole on a cold and extremely windy day.
