I don't know what is going on with this place. I always get bad customer service. The food was good, but expensive. Dont mind paying it, when the food is good. The high school kid at the cash register was good, the guy who handed us the food was good. But the service. The time. the wait, was terrible. I went in the afternoon, I was the only one there. Got a to go order. Easy order. It was all stuff they had pre made. Should have took 1 minute. All the guys in the kitchen, were standing around, laughing, joking, and not processing my order. Took over 20 minutes, and I was the only person there. I could see them, just standing. Terrible service. I also did not get any napkins, or silverware, and this was a to go order. We had to go to Kum and Go and get utensils, as we were eating at the park. Such bad service. 3 times in a row now. Not sure I'm going back. And I will tell everyone. read more

Daughter got us some takeout when we were in town tonight. Quite the sampler of all meats. I had the sausage, burnt ends, ribs, and brisket along with some chicken nachos. Wife ate the pulled chicken, youngest ate the pulled pork and Mac and cheese. Everyone found theirs delicious. My only complaint is that they didn't leave me any pulled pork or chicken. First time here and got a to go order of the BBQ sampler with 3 sides. I got ribs and sausage with mac n cheese, creamy slaw and potato salad. More than enough food for 2 people. I give the ribs a 4/5 as it was late in the day and they were a little dry. The vinegar based sauce made up for the dry ribs. Sausage was a 4/5 skin could have been a little more crispy and next time I will ask the they don't slice it. Mac n cheese was a 5/5 very creamy and home made. Slaw was 4/5 could have a little more bite to it. Potato salad was 2.5/5 as for me it had to much mayo and not enough mustard. Over all some where I will visit again as I would like to try the wings, tater chips/dip and see if they have any soup or stew. The price for the BBQ sampler was very reasonable. read more

I went here with coworkers for lunch and I was impressed. It's a small place but we got there right when it opened so we had no problem finding a seat. You order at a counter and they bring the food to you. The menu is small but has some great BBQ options. Because most of the food is prepared that morning it literally only took like 5 minutes to get our food. I got the burnt ends, mac n cheese, and smashed potato casserole. The burnt ends were really flavorful and tender, the mac n cheese was super creamy and delicious, and the smashed potato casserole was creamy mashed potatoes with cheese, meat and a few little onions - it was amazing! They had 2 BBQ sauces and I used the sweeter one and it was different and very good. Everyone that worked there was extremely friendly. Service was exceptional. I will definitely be back! read more

We are here for the first time tonight. The staff was amazing! Travis helped us go through the menu and explained all the sides to us - we ended up getting a sampler with brisket, ribs, sliced pork, and pulled pork - mac and cheese, beans, muffins - also got a redneck nacho (tons of leftovers!) but all of it was absolutely delicious! First time visiting. Service was great. Female manager at register taking orders was very knowledgeable, full of energy, and helpful in making decisions on the menu. Staff was very attentive and brought your food out quickly. Portions were plentiful. Smoky flavor (bark) on the meat was wonderful. Had the Pork Belly BLT, Redneck Nachos, Salad with sausage, and brisket. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we have leftovers! Only downside we experienced was the limited seating. The best BBQ I've had so far and I had them all over Iowa and a few in Kansas. This place is just a step above the rest from Smokey D's, Uncle Wendell's, Jethro's, Woody's Smoke Shack, and the chain Famous Dave's. The setting is similar to Smoky D's where you line up to order and they give you a number. Then you seat yourself and the waiter/waitress will bring you your food. We tried the sampler platter for $24.95. Which came with 3 meats and 3 sides that you can choose from. For the meats we picked brisket, ribs, and chicken wings. (We wanted to try the burnt ends because so many people rave about here but they were sold out. It sold out around 2:30 PM and we didn't get there until around 5 PM) Next time we come back we got to make sure we are there for lunch so we can try the burnt ends!! For the sides we chose baked beans, mac and cheese, and corn salad. The ribs were the best!! It was smoky, and it had a nice thick crust on the outside and tender, fall off the bone, juicy, melt in your mouth meat on the inside. The seasoning was just right. Some places add too much that it's too salty and you can't really eat with BBQ sauce. As for the brisket, it was very tender, moist and smoky with just enough fat on the outside. The chicken wing were just average. They had a good smoky taste to them but weren't tender enough. For the sides, the mac and cheese came ahead. It had just the right amount of creaminess and for some reason it makes you want more with every bite! The corn salad was something unique with the salty, sweet, and sour taste that paired with the BBQ meats very well. I noticed it had peaches and cream corn in there which is awesome. I think they change their side menu's a lot depending on what is in season. As for their Baked beans, it was also unique because it was not the traditional brown sugar baked beans with ham. We ordered and the food came out pretty fast but since we were there at 5pm, it wasn't so busy. I definitely have to come back for those burnt ends that everybody raves about!!! read more

The pulled pork was excellent, although the ribs were not. The bread you get with the meal isn't toasted, it is just plain bread. The pickles yummy. The sides were just average. Mashed potatoes great, chips good (although the dip not very flavorful), Mac and cheese okay, slaw good. No ice available for our water, which I thought unusual. read more

I'm On a RV trip from California and am staying at a KOA near here. The BBQ is simply outstanding! I had the brisket and sliced pork. Wonderful flavor and the $100,000 BBQ sauce is the perfect compliment to the pork. Friendly staff, great service, and good prices....hard to beat. They need to move to Northern California! read more

I will pass on this place. It seems they do not know when to stop with the salt, very very salty. My companion and I had different meals, neither one of us use the barbeque sauce, we wanted just the BBQ meat. I could only a few bites due to the salt, he took a few bits and pitch it. I know there are rubs but the sodium that was on ours was way too much. Had better BBQ with a lot less salt. read more

My wife and I both had the brisket open face sandwich. The bread was a very fresh sweet potato bread. The brisket was the best I have had in the Des Moines area. The owners obviously compete in national barbeque competitons and bring home lots of prizes. Vry much worth a try. read more

We ordered our food to go. Everything we ordered was delicious and fresh. Even things that some restaurants would consider not important or an after thought, such as the bread and pickle slices were tasty and fresh. We really enjoyed the brisket and pulled pork. Brisket was tender and moist and seasoned well (probably the rub?). Some of the best pulled pork I've ever had too. We are from Chicago (visited our family in Adel) and have a great bbq place called Smoque at home, and we liked this pulled pork better! Every side we tried was delicious too (corn salad, Mac and cheese, pit cassoulet) all fresh and homemade. The chopped salad had awesome cornbread croutons..so good. We will definitely go back next time we visit. We wanted to try the burnt ends and ribs, but they were out, which is understandable and noted on their menu board. With food this good, they should be there for a long time. read more

Ordered the BBQ sampler which can with 4 ribs and choice or 2 meats and 3 sides. Had the burnt ends and sausage along with the mac and cheese, slaw and chips and dip. As many have said, the burnt ends are flat out phenomenal! I grew up in TX and have been to KC many times and think I know my BBQ. Burnt ends are something I almost always order at a BBQ restaurant and these might be the best I've ever had. Peppery crust but not overbearing with the perfect amount of fat that they melt in your mouth. Ribs were good but almost too tender in that they just fell off the bone and the rub was a touch bland. Sausage had a great flavor and a very fine grind. I just wish they would finish it on the grill or flat top to give the skin a better crunch. Still very good though. Slaw was very good with terrific seasoning. Mac and cheese was also good. The cheese sauce is terrific but the shells were a bit mushy. Still very good. Chips were seasoned perfectly and the dip, although a touch sweet, was still addictive. I didn't care for either of their sauces as both were just too sweet for my taste but overall, one of the best BBQ places in town. Will definitely be back! read more
