There were a variety of different decor. The food tastes okay. The ramen could have come out hotter. The broth was not good, not bone sweet as it should be. The meat was dry and not flavorful. The soft shelled crab tasted good, but it was on a bed of mango and onions with duck sauce. It's weird. I only ate the crab. We had eel cucumber and yellowtail scallions sushi, which were just okay. Shrimp shumai were great, and the tuna fantastic was indeed fantastic. A little spicy but not overpowering. The owners need to print new menus. We started with an appetizer new to both of us - sushi pizza. I know- it doesn't sound like it would be a good fusion creation but it was surprisingly good. The sushi was fresh, the sauces blended nicely and the tortilla (crust) stayed crispy. We also each ordered ramen, the shoyu (chicken broth base) and the tonkotsu shoyu (pork broth base). First of all the broth was nothing but GARLIC and no flavor! I mean you couldn't smell or taste anything else - quite off putting! Secondly, the brisket was so tough n fatty it was better left alone. The good parts of the dish were definitely the ramen and the egg. The ramen was perfectly cooked with the nice chewiness to the bite and the egg perfectly yolky. By that I mean not runny and not hard boiled. Now let's talk about the sushi rolls. The lobster roll was amazing. Decidedly both our favorite. Lil chunks of lobster n tuna with avocado wrapped in white seaweed paper. We also got the Hawaiian roll which is your typical thinly sliced cucumber wrapped around salmon, tuna and yellowtail. Wow is this an absolutely incredible bowl of ramen. This flavorful garlic "tonkatsu" ramen which is apparently made with chicken broth has such an exceptionally garlic flavor and tastes like heaven! The broth is complex with fragrant oil dispersed through and bean sprouts for a lovely crunch. The chicken was also grilled and extremely flavorful and juicy. I've been ordering food to pick up more over the last few months. My parents lived close in an assisted living community. They both experienced significant health decline and one thing that made them happy was a Japanese meal. They always raved about the food which made me happy and I agree, the food at Kumo is fresh and delicious. My mom has since passed on, and my father has moved to the nursing section of the community. His advanced Alzheimer's has me repeatedly answering his same questions, but the ONE thing he remembers is: "bring me that good Japanese food." The Kumo staff is warm and friendly. The ambiance is beautiful and comfortable, I look forward to dining in one day. We often order the shrimp and vegetable tempura, the shrimp or salmon teriyaki. There's always plenty of food for leftovers. Tasty, fresh, seasoned well, not salty. If you're reading this, go and taste their food. The crisp was good but the taste was just not there for me. The spicy tuna roll was okay. Not alot of heat. The spicy kani roll was the best roll out of the three that I ordered. Good heat, good flavor and didn't need soy sauce. I was expecting the lobster roll to be packed with flavor but was disappointed. There was a type of mango sauce on the plate to dip the lobster roll but I did not find it useful. I have been to other sushi restaurants that were cheaper and have better flavor in their food. I try Kumo after a wait at Trader Joe's . Ordered a lunch bento box. Not a combo I'd recommend for anyone. The great pleasure of a bento box is the variety of hot , cold, crunchy, soft. You under stand. Well what happens when you put tempura, California roll, dumplings, rice and teriyaki chicken in the same box. Hot sushi, soggy tempura, and mushy chicken. Who knew you needed reservations to eat dinner on a Saturday night in North Wales, PA (no shade to North Wales)?! We tried 4 other places and then landed at Kumo. The universe put is exactly where we needed to be. Pro's: Everything was fresh and flavourful. Service was fantastic...friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The place is clean (including the bathrooms). Prices are very, very reasonable (almost too affordable considering the quality of the rolls). Con's: None. Ok, if I'm forced to come up with one, the rolls are so thick that they almost fall apart if your chopstick skills are mediocre (like mine...although I swear I'm Mr Miyagi). Plenty of parking. They do take reservations (recommended knowing what I know now - North Wales=suburban hot spot). Will I be back? ABSO-EFFING-LUTLY! Should you go? Yes. But not when I'm going. We have been coming here for the past 5 years. My kids love their Seafood Udon Noodle Soup and the rest of the family love the sushi combination for 2 so we always got those whenever we go plus other things to try out. Last night (7/1/2023) was the 5th consecutive time the food was awful after frequently over 30 times in the past 5 years and the final time will ever go eat there. We asked for 3 seafood udon noodle soups and Sushi combination for 2 and a few Tuna rolls. What came was Seafood stir fry dish and sushi combination for 1. The waitress messed up the order but was very polite and nice to tell us "no worries, we will correct this." No fault of hers at all. So when she went into the kitchen to make the change. The audacity of the chef and his sous chef came out of the kitchen looking pissed off at us like we didn't something wrong. Stood there for awhile mumbling before returning back to the kitchen. Later, the waitress brought out 3 Seafood noodle soups that tasted completely different from what was on the menu. At this point, I knew exactly what they did. They did not make the 3 soups like they were suppose to. Instead, they dumped the stir fried seafood into a bowl and added seafood soup. The soup was extremely salty and the noodle tasted like it's been stir fried in a pan. The same food they put on the place prior and tried to pass this off. What a bunch of cheapos. The sushi that came out tasted fishy and looked old. We ordered sushi combination 2 and it came out sushi combination 1. That was a mistake but sure, no problem. But the way the chef/owner cowardly went the cheap route of dumping the stir fried noodles into a soup was so embarrassing. Are you really that cheap? DO YOU REALLY THINK YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE THAT STUPID!? Do you think we wouldn't know??? Your simple mind cheap way to correct a mistake now forever lost us as your customer plus our friends and family. The worst thing about this on whole experience is the cooks coming out of the kitchen looking pissed off. It was quite hilarious. I want to point out, this is the 5th time before I am writing this awful review. I gave you 5 chances. The previous 4 visits just had awful tasting sushi so I let that go since we have been a long time customer. But this seafood sturdy turn noodle soup cheapo way was too much. I got the tempura udon, as a warning to future diners: do not order it. The only flavor in the broth was seasoned by the scraps of lettuce, onions, and Edamame floating which by istelf had no flavor. I was very hungry before coming here, but the saying that food tastes better when hungry does not apply here. The noodles were just noodles, seasoned by the flavorless soup. I had sunk to such a low level of sadness while eating. The tempura was fried nicely, and at least there was flavor in the dipping sauce. Service was slow and the server paid no attention to serving us until we locked eyes onto her. Then waiting for the food to actually arrive took its time. In comparison to other udons I have had, this is utterly disapointing. If this is a modern take on udon, then the modern world is bleak. read more

Kumo Asian Bistro is in reality a Chinese sushi joint in one of the many shopping centers along Bethlehem Pike in North Wales, Pa. As such, they offer a nice facility with broad menu that is primarily rolls and cold fish, with minimum dishes from China and Thailand. Everything is decent, but nothing stands out as exceptional, requiring return visits, unless you are from the area. It is very much a variation of the sushi theme, without high artistry. Still, service was fine, and I had no real quarrel with what we ate. Meeting friends we were able to order extra dishes and sample everything placed before us. We ordered several apps, and two rolls (sorry, didn't catch the names). We began with their "Sushi Pizza," a good tasting, if poorly named, mix that reminded of its Italian namesake only in its shape. It was just as much "taco." Crisp tortilla-like base with a pleasant load topside. Fun and enjoyable. Their calamari was tempura style, which was not as good as the original in that it lacked good texture, and once cooled, returned to a too-chewy amorphousness. The beef negiyaki was more interesting as a semi-spicy veggie combo wrapped in beef. In truth, would not get either of those again. The two rolls ordered by our friends were fine offerings, one topped with eel. This experience was more about our conversation than our meal, so the food was comparatively less important than what we were talking about. Still, the room and the platters were a good backdrop for us. We had room, space and time to relax and enjoy the moment. We never felt rushed, and our server engaged with us when appropriate. Their ingredients taste very fresh, and it's really some of the best spicy tuna rolls I've had. In addition to quality, they're very efficient and can have 10 rolls ready in less than 30 minutes. Kumo is a perfectly serviceable Japanese restaurant. It is unfortunately not terribly memorable. My wife stopped by on a cold rainy night so neither of us were thinking about sushi. I started with the octopus ball appetizer and it was very nice. Cool on the outside, hot inside with a nice creamy texture. Seriously I want these again. My main course was the teriyaki shrimp served on a bed of caramelized onions. The shrimp were quite good but it was a bit of a struggle to get the onions onto the rice. It was all good but not too memorable. I honestly don't remember what my wife had. the place has the added defect of not having a liquor license. Considering its neighbors include a wine bar and brewery this puts it at a serious disadvantage and not just for foot traffic coming in. I'm sorry. I'm an adult. I'd like a better flavor choice than cola for my meal. all in all the meal was fine. The cost was fair, the drinks limited but overall there was a sense of 'well, ok.' Their sashimi and sushi rolls are consistently very good and very fresh. What I love is that even with takeout, the sushi and/or sashimi is at a perfect temperature where it tastes best. (I think I speak for many when I say that I prefer sushi to be slightly cool.) What I really enjoyed was the thin layer of crispy rice on the inside of the seaweed with a thin layer of white rice on the outside.
