Sushi Hatsu os a really tasty sushi spot. It's on the main drag on Butler Pike. Bet you might have driven by and didn't notice. Now you will! There's about 20 tables inside. When we walked in, it was pretty loud and full. We were seated quickly. It was easier to talk after some folks left (it was 8pm). The sushi is well presented and full of flavor. You can expect to pay $8 for an AAC roll, and twenty for a really cool one. They even have "specials" which sound quite intriguing. The chicken dumplings were fabulous too! I definitely recommend this place. Not good for groups or kids (they won't appreciate how good this is).

We came here for Valentine's Day and while it was pretty busy, we got seated on time for our reservation. The host and waiters were very attentive and nice. Inside was romantic and dimly lit. The food did take a while to come out- not sure if it's because they were more busy that day. We got calamari, two sushi rolls, and two hand rolls. I thought that the calamari and sushi we got was good but not the best. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the sushi rolls we got. However, we really loved the hand roll! We got scallop and a fatty tuna hand roll. It was so delicious and melts right into your mouth!

Yummy cute spot for sushi in the area! Service was a little slow but the food was still good~ especially the green tea panna cotta!! Good place for a date night :D

Twice in a week my preconceived ideas about sushi in the suburbs have been proven wrong. My niece was visiting and requested sushi. We found this place minutes from the hotel and decided to give it a try. We were thrilled with the entire experience. Our waiter Raphael was awesome- he was friendly and attentive, he suggested a few dishes, we selected a bunch more and we feasted. We started with the wasabi edamame- which had a nice little bite, the carpaccio with truffle oil was exquisite, the fried dumplings were stuffed with nicely seasoned pork, the little empanadas were a fun fusion, miso soup was not your average miso, it had an assortment of mushrooms, the rolls were all very good, we didn't go with anything too extravagant, but we thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese pumpkin and tuna crunch varieties. We topped off the evening by sharing the scrumptious strawberry cheesecake. It was a memorable meal. Can't wait to return.

Corkage fee and 3% credit card surcharge - they really must not want return customers!

This is a tale of two restaurants. Before COVID, this was a great restaurant that we would visit every month or so. Now in 2023, the portion sizes have gone down (e.g. Empanadas - they ruined them and they are half the size) and they added corkage fees and a 3% credit card surcharge - wtf? There is no way in hell I am going back to a place in the suburbs that has those charges. Hatsu needs to check themselves - they aren't Morimoto and Ambler isn't Rittenhouse Square. I'm doing you a favor going into Ambler - parking sucks and there's nothing to do after you eat. At least in Doylestown or New Hope there are interesting stores and coffee shops to visit. I didn't even get to our server not mentioning the Daily Specials - wtf. Chef Harrison Kim must have left, because those empanadas suuuucked! Bye bye Sushi Hatsu - you were once great, but you don't treat customers like that.

The food is really good. I love the green dragon rolls. However, $15 for what you see in the picture which is three empanadas is a little excessive. They should put more empanadas in the order is all I'm saying. But they were cool. They stayed open for us. We were five minutes late. That was very nice of them but five dollars an empanada. That's 40 minutes of work if you made minimum wage for 1 empanada.

$22.00 worth of scallops!! These guys are jerks.

OMG!!! Ordered take out, got the "Pan Seared Scallops" for $22.00 and Got 2 scallops. That's it. So $11.00 each! What a freaking rip off!! Never again. Sushi Hatsu is off my list . I don't care if they offer me free soup, I'll never go back. And, if they rip you off on the scallops what else are they screwing you on?? I just bought 1.5 Lbs of fresh scallops from Whole Foods and paid $27.00. Screw you Hatsu!!

Come here for the sushi and desserts! I came here a couple of times with my husband and my friend and was not disappointed. It's a really cute BYOB restaurant located in the heart of Ambler. I love their fresh sushi and cold appetizer but I am not a fan of their sushi rolls nor their hot food. The staffs are very attentive and knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions. Since it's a newly open restaurant, the restaurant itself is very clean and so is the bathroom. When you ever visit this place, try to touch the bottom of your table. They put a carpet under the table so even if you bang your knee (#tallpeopleproblems), it doesn't hurt as much. I highly recommend the Japanese uni with quail egg and madai tiradito.

TL;DR - absolutely love love love this place and will always come back here. Everything is SO GOOD Came here multiple times already and am ready to go back again! If you like sushi then this is your place because the sushi here is fresh and delicious and not at an unreasonably high price imo. Also their service is great! Friendly staff who are helpful and courteous!! When you are seated, you are given water + warm hand towels to clean your hands. This place is also a BYOB restaurant which is a major + for me and will take care of opening your drink, etc for you. For appetizers, I have had the short rib empanada and the kanpachi carpaccio which were both very good! The short rib empanada is filled with Korean short ribs and it is very tender! Not rough or chewy but very tender and the outside is doughy which balances out the saltiness of the inside. Love it!!! The kanpachi carpaccio is amberjack raw fish topped with olive oil, yuzu soy, and black truffle. Not tiny little specks of truffle but actual pieces! It was really good!! Would def recommend both appetizers I've also ordered a few of their oh-toro and chu-toro nigiri/sashimi pieces ($12 a piece for oh-toro) and they literally melted in my mouth, YUM!! For the meal, I love ordering the moriawase which comes with 8 pieces of sushi chosen by the chef and your choice of a basic roll. I would recommend this for those who like a variety and want to try the different pieces of fish the chef chooses. I also ordered the hatsu roll which does not have rice in it but is wrapped in cucumber. It's filled with tuna, salmon, avocado, and mango and wakame. Really good option for GF and those who dislike rice. My favorite was the Tarantino roll which came topped with a spicy apricot chutney sauce on top. This roll is filled with shrimp tempura and spicy hamachi and really melted in my mouth. Diablo roll was also really good!! Comes with a side of ponzu sauce that you dip in which gives the roll a good kick! If you dislike raw fish or looking for a real entree, the Patagonian tooth fish is a great option! It was amazingly soft!! Literally melts in your mouth! I was surprised at how soft it really was! The fish is on the sweeter side so it's not salty and pairs well with the picked asparagus and truffle parsnip purée. For dessert there are 2 options available - yuzu cheesecake and the green tea panna cotta. I would totally recommend both! The yuzu cheesecake is a good sized cheesecake.. bigger than a single slice! The yuzu is subtle and not too strong which I really appreciated. The green tea panna cotta is kind of like a green tea tiramisu. Super smooth and creamy with green tea taste. Absolutely amazing I could eat it every single day!! All my visits here have been really good and I can't wait to come back to try all of the other items on their menu!

    Sylvia Y.

What a gem! My husband brought me and the kids here for our wedding anniversary. We ordered lots of different things from the menu, but what stood out from the rest was the special Moriawase. I think we found our new favorite place and to top it off, without the city drive. Great atmosphere. Knowledgeable wait staff. The best sushi. And as my little states, "Panna cotta is my life." Definitely check it out!

Who are the owners of this sushi restaurant? Do they have any affiliation with the Osaka restaurants in Philly and Lansdale?

Harrison Kim is the son of the owner of Osaka but the father has no interest and has nothing to do with Sushi Hatsu.

I ordered the Crazy Roll and a yellowtail scallion hand roll. The food was just okay. The hand roll was unraveling and the wrap was tough. I've had better sushi from here before that my son brought home, so the quality seems inconsistent. They offer specials, party trays, Thai options, and have a small dine in area that appears clean. Overall, between the uneven service and average food, I wasn't impressed and I'm not sure I'd return.

It was clean and neat and the table was set with a small plate and chopsticks. The menu included a broad variety of sushi and Thai dishes. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. It's BYOB so feel free to bring something with you. We ordered appetizers of the tuna sundae and the spicy seafood salad. What I noticed in both dishes was they the fish was not able to be the hero of the dish. This theme continues throughout the meal. Both dishes were tasty but the sundae was covered in so many cashews that you couldn't even see any tuna. The spicy seafood salad did not have as much sushi as expected and was on the smaller side. Our main dishes were the Marla roll and the Lisa roll The Marla roll was pretty good but again didn't have as much sushi as expected. The Lisa roll was probably 60% avocado which was a disappointment for an $18 signature roll. The fish was fresh and the flavors were good but I left not feeling any desire to return. It was a disappointment because I was excited to find another sushi location. I will probably give it another try but I may try something else.

We chose hibachi which was on the left side of the restaurant. It was very tight seating for us as we were the last people to sit at the table. My baby sat in the high chair at the corner. It was sooo cramped. If one person on the inside needs the bathroom we'd all have to get up and move for them. We had to pass the drinks and soups down to the people sitting on the inside. Our hibachi chef was good, he was funny. No one wanted sake at our table so he asked my baby if she wanted water and squirt it at her mouth using the pee boy toy. Mostly got on her chin and shirt. It was funny, everyone laughed and the baby got a balloon goat right after. Our chef was the cool one with the music and disco ball with fire on his head when he arrived. The lobster, scallop, shrimp and beef were good. The chicken was breast meat and my family didn't enjoy it. The rice was too hard and the noodles were too salty. We couldn't eat the rice and we tried our best to eat the noodles. The hibachi seating area was extremely smoky . Their vents were weak and there was only one or two. It was not enough to suck out all the smoke. They needed more industrial vents, like the ones at Korean bbq's. They also had issues with the cc that night so it was either. Pay with cash or they took down your cc information and texted the receipt to you that night after their machine was back up. Overall we will not be doing hibachi again. Maybe we will do the other side for the sushi meal at the regular tables. It was too uncomfortable for us and the family regretted hibachi.
