This isn't really a return spot for me. I didn't enjoy the food as much as I was hoping to. I love hibachi and finally decided to give this place a try. Service was just okay. We didn't have to wait long to be seated, and the drinks and soup came out pretty quickly. But after that, the experience slowed down a lot. The chef took almost an hour to come to the table, which definitely took away from the excitement. The food was okay -- not horrible, but not something I'd crave or go out of my way for. The fried rice was very basic, mostly just rice, egg, and soy sauce. It could've used some onions, chicken, or something to add more flavor. I also didn't like the teriyaki sauce that was mixed into the meat. The yum yum sauce was really watery and too sweet for me. Small details like cleaning the flat top before sliding the food over would also improve the overall presentation and experience. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but I think some quality checks before sending food out would make a big difference. read more

Just moved here and wanted to celebrate my husband's retirement from the Navy. This was the worst habachi we have ever had. The chef didn't season anything! The yum yum was watered down and did not taste like yum yum. Everything was overly sweet. The ginger sauce had good consistency but just tasted like sugar. I see all the negative reviews but I absolutely love this place! The food is amazing and service is good. The chefs are always entertaining. We come here once a week, but I'd go more if I could. My family and I came here for Christmas Eve dinner and I was blown away by the service. Sometimes holidays can slow things down, but that wasn't the case here. Our waitress was totally on top of it. We did have a reservation for hibachi which helped. They also have a bar you can grab a drink at if you have to wait for your table. They have a variety of wine, beer, and cocktails to complement your meal. My family loves hibachi and Kumo is quickly becoming a new favorite. Their sushi rolls are so good! I recommend ordering a spicy tuna roll to start your meal. For hibachi, the steak was yummy. I didn't love my hibachi shrimp, but I was drooling at my brother's scallops. I'll need to try those next. The ambiance and lighting is nice for a dinner out. Even though it was busy, I didn't feel like we were on top of other diners. They share parking with other businesses so I could see that potentially being a problem, although we were able to easily find a spot. read more

Worst hibachi I've ever eaten. The clear soup tasted like beef broth out of the container with some mushrooms thrown in. The fried rice was undercooked/hard. The Yum Yum sauce was watered down and lacked the signature delectable flavor. The salad had iceberg lettuce doused in ginger dressing with one cherry tomato. The Chef seemed overwhelmed and was not able to spilt portions evenly. The food was mediocre. I had the chicken fried rice. It was literally just oily rice covered in soy sauce and chicken pieces. My husband had the teriyaki steak. It was bland and came out like fajitas. We had to ask for an extra plate so he could eat it. The service was very slow and the two entrees came out 10 min apart. Once upon a time we really enjoyed the food. Its not nearly as good as it was. The sushi was ok. Not bad just not great. The rest of our food was soso. We waited a very long time just to order something to drink. Then more time just to get my bottle of saki. Then mire time to order. As always, absolutely delicious! I wanted to leave another five star review because it's always incredible! Been a customer for over 13+ years. Our waiter has been the same the last few time and he's amazing! During the weekends is very busy (which is great!) so it's a tad bit louder in there but the weekdays are still busy but less loud which is nice! We love KUMO!! We usually go for special occasions as well because you can have a larger group. They put on a fantastic show for you while cooking the food right in front of you. It's very entertaining! The food is amazing. We usually get the steak and lobster hibachi. It comes with soup, ginger salad and a shrimp appetizer. We have had their sushi as well and it is very fresh and tasty. The wait staff is great, entertaining, and fast. The restaurant is clean and the decor is fancy!! ENJOY! read more

My family and I went here for my birthday and it was such a great experience! We made reservations which made the process so smooth and easy. We sat at the hibachi table and my little brother got to go over to the sushi bar and watch his rainbow roll get made in front of him. We had a variety of items ordered at our table (chicken, steak, shrimp, scallops, lobster) and they were all cooked so well. We even had someone who had an egg sensitivity and so they brought him out a separate white rice so there was no contact with egg. The lighting is dim which I personally like. Our waitress was so sweet and quick, then we had a great hibachi chef who did all his cool tricks. They even brought me free birthday ice cream and sang to me! read more

I had a 10% coupon published from the Yelp site, but Kumo refused to honor it. You get the coupon if you let them know you are at the restaurant then, so they know you are a "helper". But, the restaurant manager refused to honor it saying it was from the Ft. Myers location even though it was the Cape Coral site. It all seemed VERY tricky to me over 10%. I don't need the 10%, but do not like to be cheated. Food was OK for this type, nothing special. Chef GiGi is an exception - he was a great showman. read more

BE CAREFUL !!! My wife ate there last night and I wasn't educated enough to send the food back. We both had hibachi dinner of steak and scallops. When the meal was served I noticed an unmistakable odor of ammonia but disregarded it because I was very hungry. After dinner we were both sick all night. I looked up on the internet about the ammonia smell of seafood and it said the fish was spoiled and not to eat it. Well to late. In my opinion, there is no way the kitchen and the chef didn't know. Not the best experience. 8 of us went for a special occasion with reservations at 5pm. Upon entry it smelled very strong of Natural Gas which was a bit nauseating. The first thing we did was notify the waitress & chef that one person in our party (whom is also blind) has a serious allergy to shellfish. The soup came first and was a tasty broth, however the small bowl was seriously chipped with sharp edges along the rim. (See picture) Next came the salad... truly terrible with only the white stalky part of the lettuce, no green. The fried rice which was fun to watch the preparation but the rice was dry and tasteless. ( thank goodness for soy sauce) If you get the beef be sure to make it the fillet, as the sirloin never breaks down while chewing and will have to be swallowed in one piece according to my husband. I ordered the scallops which were very good. The shrimp was dry and overcooked. The Chef used the same utensils for the beef, chicken and seafood turning the raw chicken then the medium rare beef (can you say cross contamination?). Also they put 2 shrimp on everyone's plate, including the blind person whom we informed him was allergic to shellfish of any kind. We all felt rushed as the waitress came out right away with "to go" containers for all of us. (Here's your hat, what's your hurry?) 18% gratuity added automatically to your total so watch what you leave. We usually give places a second chance but there are so many places to go and new places to try, so I doubt if we will ever be back. read more

I gave Kumo three stars because it just was not all that fancy and good. They have bento boxes but only for lunch. The sushi we got was below par. The shrimp inside two of the rolls tasted stale. The tempura was not even warm. It was very disappointing. The chicken teriyaki was just alright served a bed of onions with a bowl of rice on the side. The table water was so disgusting it was definitely tap water so I ordered unsweetened tea which was not much better at all. read more

Let start off by saying our server was very attentive , cheerful and helpful but that's about all that was good about this place. Group of ten 4 people ended up sick. Not great from the moment we walked in. The host could have not cared less about seating guests, was borderline rude. Food was not great, sent one dish back as it was inedible. The wasabi tuna avocado didn't have a "hint" of wasabi, instead, large chunks of wasabi mixed with the avocado. Gross. My Royal Deluxe meal's sashimi was about 50% eel - too much. I ordered the chicken habachi and was not impressed at all. The chicken lacked so much flavor, same with the veggies. The "fried rice" was exactly that. Rice fried with nothing else. No eggs, no onion, zero, zip, nada! The salad dressing for the ginger salad was watered down. The yum, yum sauce was watered down as well. My husband was not impressed with his meal either. He said it lacked a lot of flavor and they put more onion than meat which turned him off. The ambiance is super dark, it feels like a night club lol. I felt like this location was veryyyy sketchy! Ordered the tuna roll and calamari. Sushi was warm and the seaweed roll the sushi was wrapped in tasted very fishy, like they didn't swap out gloves while rolling different kinds of fish for other orders. The calamari was not as expected - it was chewy and not your typical calamari ( see picture attached). Will not be ordering here again. THIS PLACE SUCKS!! I called 6 times from 8:30-9:15 with no answer on a Monday. I was trying to place a big to go order for arriving back into town for the family. The store says it closes at 10 online. I then arrived at 9:32 and they refused to take my order. The servers clearly just wanted to leave early. This place is horrible. I will never come here again and never recommend it. The server answered my first call then hung up on me. They clearly had plenty of time to take my order. After the first two calls they disconnected it and it kept going to voicemail. I have never been so angry from a restaurant before. Will not be recommending this place to anybody read more

Kumo is a very nice atmosphere for hibachi and sushi, when going for hibachi you will probably have to wait or make reservations but for sushi you can usually get seated right away. Staff is always pleasant and helpful when trying new rolls. read more

When you walk in Kumo's front entrance, you see a stone wall with a few standing rocks and a tiny water spray. No picture or restaurant name in sight. It is plain and simple! We do not want hibachi tonight so we were sit at the table. The service is fast and we have our green tea and a small hot Sake to warm the Florida raining chill. Wife ordered a Shrimp Tempura and I ordered the beef Negimaki or strips of beef marinated in Teriyaki sauce then rolled with scallions (negi). We shared a side order of smoked Eel sushi roll. First we have our Miso soup and a small salad with ginger dressing. The Miso soups are very tasty but the salad needs to add a slice or two of cucumber. The Shrimp Tempura for some reason is little on the dry side. Normally a freshly make Shrimp Tempura is little moist! Mushroom, cucumber, onion and broccoli tempura are good. The Negimaki has a good taste of scallions but the beef rolls are supposed seared to create a brown crust and a medium-rate center. But our thin cut beef is over cooked! Nevertheless, the onions and Teriyaki sauce made up the Negimaki defect. The Eel sushi roll is made right. No complaint at this department! The staff is attentive and checked three times to ensure our need are met. We have Hibachi here before. For Hibachi in Fort Myers, I still rank Osaka first, Daruma second and Kumo third. We've used Groupon's here and I wouldn't pay more than a Groupon to eat here. We enjoy it for the discount but that's about it. It's a fun experience and the chef was awesome but I feel like it is just WAY too much food. You get a heaping pile of rice and vegetables on top of soup and salad and the meat is non-existent. Our last visit we both ordered filet mignon and he got chicken and I got shrimp. We ordered the filet medium rare because it usually gets overcooked and some pieces ended up being raw. My favorite things on the plate are the rice, vegetables and the yum yum. Meat quality isn't the greatest but it's the experience I suppose. read more
