We were waited on and served quickly. One of us ordered Alaskan rolls- very fresh and delicious. Another of us ordered the chicken teriyaki. I ordered the pork katsu- it was lightly breaded and crispy with a really tasty sauce. The teriyaki and katsu meals included a salad with ginger dressing, white rice, and cup of miso soup. I don't normally like miso soup- it's got a fishy taste I don't enjoy. Kumo's miso wasn't fishy. The ginger dressing was good- just enough ginger. We also ordered the House Special fried rice to share- big shrimp, chunks of steak, and had such a nice flavor. Big portions- We have enough for a second meal. Kumo has a hibachi section- the chefs were energetic, and their customers seemed entertained. It looked like a lot of fun! We had a great experience- and we'll be back! read more

went here a week ago or so with a party of eight around lunch time, not too crowded. we didn't get the whole hibachi spectacle and instead just sat down for a regular meal. service here was quick! i ordered a philadelphia roll with no cucumber and the serving size was MASSIVE (far more than the picture I've attached)--definitely a steal for what you pay, only $6.50! you'll also notice in the aforementioned picture that it is definitely dimly lit in here. the ginger dressing salad was also acclaimed across our party, as was our actual hibachi meals. the quality (and quantity, lol) of the sushi alone definitely warrants a visit. come here during lunch and save yourself a pretty penny & enjoy a relaxing atmosphere. read more

I love the staff at Kumo. They are fast and friendly. The food portions are notably generous- from rolls, to hibachi to the veggie tempura dinner. We never leave hungry. The big draw is the teppinyaki- word of mouth about how fun it is brought us to Kumo. There's always a wait on the weekend for that but you can normally glide right in if you sit in the regular tables. read more

Well, my previous review was the first one for this place and it was 1 1/2 years ago, so I thought it best to offer a brief update. We have actually been here quite a few times and always for lunch. We were just there today and had one of our favorites, the bento box, one with teriyaki beef & one with teriyaki salmon. Both were quite good. I think this place has been able to stand the test of time and is better now than when it first opened. We do continue to suspect that all the help is Chinese rather than Japanese, but they do a fine job. We've never been there for dinner, but if the grandchildren are in town and they want to see someone slapping the spatula on the oven top and flipping shrimp into his hat and pocket, bring them for the show. read more

We came to know this place on recommendation from a friend as we knew we'd be in the area. This place is known for their hibachi, but we felt like ordering from their regular menu. From what I can recount, we ordered some unfiltered sake, to accompany their love boat. It had a generous share of sushi and sashimi. We were really impressed with the gamut of choices for sashimi, and all of our sushi tasted very fresh. My sushi experience is also weighed on presentation, and it definitely passed the mark. It's amazing how size and cut matter when it comes to each piece of fish. I can't remember all of my choices, but I do remember being able to taste the fish without the fishyness or strange texture. Everything was smooth to the taste, and the texture enhanced each bite. Now for customer service experience, there is a definite need for improvement. We had a Yelp check-in, and our waitress took our cell phone and walked right off with it without any explanation of why she was leaving the table with our phone. Not cool. I just remember there was lack of communication at other tables as well. One table gave a strange look at our waitress after greeting them and then leaving right away by telling them to hold on. Hold on to what? lol All in all, the sushi and sashimi saved the day. I presume that the hibachi was the better of choices due to all the loud exchanges of laughter and applause behind the dividing wall. I'm open to trying this place out, but with remembering to pay no mind to customer service. Hibachi will be next on my list! read more

We have been to this restaurant more than a handful of times over the past couple years. One of its most desirable qualities is consistency. Whenever we have been in the mood for lunch sushi, we don't hesitate to head over to Kumo. The service is quick and the lunch menu is extremely affordable. I can say with confidence that the food is made to order and the sushi rolls are fresh and filling. I highly recommend any of their rolls with tuna! We did come to Kumo once for dinner and ordered potstickers, tempura vegetables, and sushi (rolls that are not on the lunch menu). I had to update this review. I decided to give them another try. No I have not been foolish enough to try their fish... However, I have been there now 4 times after staying away for about 2 years. I have only done the hibachi and not the sit down lunch. The chefs have been excellent and the steaks, scallops, and shrimp have been just fine. Not sure if management has changed, and I do not know how they would handle it if you have a bad experience... However, I now give my new experiences 4 stars. Stopped at Kumos for a 10pm dinner after work yesterday. I was met there by my boyfriend and were seated right away. Although we didn't choose the hibachi tables this time, I've eaten there plenty of times before and have really enjoyed it. We choose to have a regular table, the waiter was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. For appetizer we ordered pan seared pork gyoza, nice and crispy to the bite and very juicy and tender inside. Wasn't trilled when I tried ordering a glass of my favorite Santa Margherita but they only serve it by bottle. The house wine which is the only one served by glass taste bitter and not what I want with dinner. My boyfriend ordered the hibachi filet mignon and salmon. His food was delicious, I did find the fried rice was bland but that's nothing new as I seem to never be completely satisfied with the taste (needs some garlic butter or seasoning). As far as my sushi, amazinggggg! The screaming orgasm was not what I imagine but probably the best thing I have ever eaten in a sushi restaurant, shrimp tempura wrapped in raw salmon topped with spicy crab mix and served in a spicy siracha sauce, yumm!. I also had the Asian muffin which was crab, avocado, cream cheese, rolled and deep fried....Let's just say I ate every single roll! I honestly loved the service and food and have made this my new Friday spot! read more

Have had sushi at this place a few times and was always impressed. Decided to have the hibachi one night and it was a good time. The chef was interactive and he was a good time. He made sure to not mix any of the foods together and was able to get everything to you while it was hot. There is plenty of room in the hibachi area, we went on a Tuesday night and it was packed. I saw a lot of reviews about them adding a tip automatically but I can tell you they did not do that. If you're in the area and want either great sushi or hibachi definitely stop in. read more

What a find this place was! We started with drinks and I ordered the Merlot. It was poured to the top of the wine glass. Thank you! No good. I would Never go back. It was our first time there and we were all starving. We went to the Habachi table and our cook was so nasty and never spoke to us. We would say thank you, and we would get no response. The best part was my husband order a steak and wanted it medium. Well his steak was raw so asked the guy if he could put it on the grill for a little longer. No big deal, right. Well he took his spatula and pull All the steak off his plate half landing on the table. Scrapped it on the grill and began chopping it into tiny pieces and pressing it on the grill (making sure at this point he over cooks it) again all without speaking and just a nasty attitude the whole dinner. Not to mention after adding the chicken to the grill he took the same spatula and took a chunk of butter. Good luck at this place! Best part is the already add the tip to the bill. This is hands down one of my favorite sushi places in fort Myers. This place is PHENOMENAL- they have creative, unique sushi rolls that are genuinely soooo tasty and amazing. We eat here at least a couple of times a month. Their sushi is genuinely so tasty, fresh and unique. It's worth trying each different roll each time. My favorite is the screaming O roll and the sushi tar tar, but every roll I've tried so far has been phenomenal. The staff is so friendly and warm and always willing to recommend a great dish. Im originally from San Francisco so I am used to great sushi. Moving here was hard until I found this place. My only suggestion is: please make a spicy garlic edamame! You are so creative with your rolls and sauces (I can drink the screaming o sauce by itself!) that I'm sure you can do sooo much better than just salted edamame. Please create a banging edamame plate, it's all you're missing. Definitely recommend this amazing place. You will not regret. read more

I understand your preference is to seat parties at your hibachi tables from one side to the other, but when you get a party that has a seat preference at the table, you work around it. You don't embarrass the party and insist they pay $50 for a private table, we will not be back. read more

It's a Hibachi place (Teppan where I come from but whatever). If I'm being honest, most of these places are pretty much the same. A clear soup, a small salad, and then a fancy utensil-acrobatic chef cooking your food in front of you. They all have pretty much the same menus and they all taste pretty similar. So why the 4 stars? Because the chef was very funny and entertaining, the food was better than most of these places, the filet was super tender and juicy so I know they get good product, the portions were enormous and given the cost of eating out these days, the prices were reasonable. Do not eat here!!!!!!! Used to be awesome but service and cooking has gone down the drain!!!! They automatically add a 20% tip Into every check no matter how large or small your party is. She asked to take tip off, so we could pay bill on card and tip on cash, said " no, tipping is mandatory so it's part of your bill" even threatens to call police on us if we did not pay the bill with their tip amount in it!!! Food was horrible and it was all over cooked. Service was horrible sat at a full table for more than 30 minutes before we even had our drink order taken. This has historically been one of my favorite dining spots. However tonight I requested seating at hibachi service and was taken to partially seated table. I asked to be seated at end, the " host" rudely told me I needed to sit in middle of others. I declined, he said "you must sit or go". Unbelievable rudeness.
